View Full Version : Tell The DDO Community Team #11 - Event Edition
Tolero
03-10-2008, 11:50 AM
Greetings! It's time once again...
Now that we've all had a moment to absorb the festivities from the past week or so, this week's Tell The Team is a special Live Event edition...
How it works:
I'll be asking you questions, and here in my thread, you tell me: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand. If you missed the previous week's questions, they'll be listed below and you can answer them here too. Thank you so much to everyone for offering their answers!
Ground Rules:
Before we get started, let's lay down three ground rules if you're going to participate in the thread. These ground rules also have a few samples to help clarify participation:
#1 - The single most important rule to remember while participating in this thread is:
No personal attacks.
If you disagree with the opinion of another participant, that's fine, but no one can make anyone agree to their opinion. Thus, please refrain from commenting on the personal qualities of others who offer their responses to the question(s). Personal attacks go against forum guidelines. Questions asked will be subjective, and some users will have a lot related to their opinion, while others may only define things in short phrases. All forms are acceptable.
Hypothetical Example:
Tolero "Do you like ice cream?"
Player 1 "I hate ice cream because it's too tough to scoop"
Acceptable "I like it. It's not that bad to scoop once you let it sit on the counter for a little bit before you try to dip it Player 1."
Acceptable "I like it but I have the same problem as Player 1. What brand is it Player 1?"
Acceptable "I don't think it's too hard, I never have any problem with it. I like ice cream."
Unacceptable "That's cause you're a noob..."
Unacceptable "You don't have enough experience with scooping to be talking about how difficult it is"
Unacceptable "How about you back that opinion up with some numbers. If you can't prove it don't bring it here"
Everyone has the right to offer their response to the question(s), whether they have scientific data to back up their feelings, or they simply just "feel" a certain way towards the question(s).
#2 - Participate as well as discuss.
If you would like to join in the discussion, please be sure to offer your response to the questions as well, in addition to your conversation with any other thread participants
Hypothetical Example:
Tolero "What's your favorite color?"
Player 1 "Blue"
Player 2 "Green"
Acceptable "Purple... hey Player 2, how come you like Green?"
Unacceptable "hey Player 2 how come you like Green?"
Please be sure to take the time to offer your own opinion of the question(s) before you engage in a discussion about other people's opinions in the thread.
#3 - Don't recycle the above hypothetical examples in your responses ;) as it spams the thread.
-------------------------- Let's Get Started! --------------------------

Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
My primary motivation for attending a Live Event is to experience something unique in a game. The missions or random monsters or whatever are always there, but I like to be able to say "I was there when the Shavarath Vortex opened."
The Shavarath Invasion, hands-down. I won't say it was perfect, but it was pretty cool.
D, A, C, B. I would like to add that the loot situation was even lower for me than jumping in the lag.
I like quests that have a variety of objectives, but my favorite type is probably rescue/retrieval. Usually it means that I can roam around the whole quest killing everything if that's what I'm in the mood for, or I can go straight to the goods and end it quickly if that's what I'm in the mood for.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Normally I do not. I know that lag for us would be bad, and I confess to a bit of shyness.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
DDO is my only MMO, and this was the only live event I have been to. Over all I had a great deal of fun, lag was killer, but still, the energy was fun. Next time, maybe you guys could do away with the repair bill part of death due to lag.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
A - I loved reading the forums and the story.
D - The environment changes where brilliant. We will have sun on some days, right?
C - I was on my level 12 cleric, did not do much fighting but had a great time healing.
B - Lag and jumping do not mix
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
I like rescuing, avenging quests best. I think I am about the only one who loves Stones run Red and its story line.

This week's question(s) are:
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
I think a live event is supposed to be more interactive with the general population and have a more epic feel to it so that's why I'm drawn to them.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Can't remember any others (been to long) so I'll just say the DDO anniversary event.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying - LEAST FAVORITE, TOO SLOW, NOT ENOUGH GOING ON AT ALL TIMES
B) Jumping tower - FAVORITE - IT WAS FUN TO SEE THE TENT GETTING BLOWN AROUND.
C) Monster fights - SECOND FAVORITE - MORE SPAWNS!
D) NPC and Environment changes - SECOND LEAST FAVORITE NOT ENOUGH ENVIRONMENT CHANGES
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
SEEKING AN OBJECT LIKE IN BAM
I will say the destruction of the tent was done very nicely but I wanted to see a giant hand reach down and rip the tent from it's foundations and get pulled into the vortex.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event? To see what happens. And to get that "monumental" feel you get when a whole town is fighting together.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended? This was my first and I loved it from start to finish.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying 1. I'm not a roleplayer but it was the suspense that kept me interested.
B) Jumping tower 3. This was a pain the first night it showed up but got easier. Ultimately a little disappointing since there was no real reason to get up there. Although the 30-minute aid was worth it i guess!!
C) Monster fights 4. LOVED the idea of these but the lag in most cases made it not so fun. I would frezz in a fight with full hitpints (plus those from Aid, False Life, etc.) and unfreeze dead. This may be as much of an issue with my machine as it is with the servers, however.
D) NPC and Environment changes 2. Added to the suspense and mystery of the event. This is my first MMO and this made me realize how dynamic they can be. Also led to some great discussions in general chat with folks speculating what was happening or going to happen.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to? I like puzzles a lot. I also like wetwork type quests where we are sent to assasinate someone or wipe out a group of people or retieve something that was stolen/lost etc... Protecting an NPC generally stinks but can be cool if the group is creative.
That's all I have!

This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying1
B) Jumping tower4

Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
good question I wish there was more protecting but not NPC's (which we can't control) but more protect the outpost, fort, castle, ect....these quest do present the challage of failure but I get more of a rush from them.... side note I tend to not like the puzzles,

Curiosity/Desire to be wowed (no caps in wow)/Fear of missing something truly spectacular/Hope that my guild would make it a fun social event
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
The only other one I ever did was the one in the Lobster a LOOONG time ago. It was actually more intense from memory (altho it also suffered from interminable lag).
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying4, but with a caveat -- the "excitement" of the event, which was directly related to this part, was alot of fun. Its the RP that I don't do much of.
B) Jumping tower2, altho when I had dedicated the playtime to do it, it was laggy and so it kinda was less fun
C) Monster fights 1, altho I got very little of it and when I did, it was laggy
D) NPC and Environment changes3, may Nat's leg never heal!
1 being the part I liked the most , 4 the part I liked the least
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
I can't say any of them holds out more than any other; its all in the execution.

What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Having fun and experiencing something new.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Star Wars Galaxies had a lot of tools to have player driven events and create cities. Some of the events that the players came up with for City Pride where really awesome...
Question 3

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To experience something outside the norm for the game - beyond the quests that can and have been run dozens of times.
Oh, and to have fun. Can't forget the fun.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
I'd have to say the Devil Invasion of last week. Not trying to suck up - just that DDO is my first MMO, and this was the best Live Event this game has produced to date.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
1st place: NPC and Environment changes
2nd place: Monster fights
3rd place: The story unfolding/roleplaying (this would have ranked 1st, but the roleplaying got in the way of clear info about the event in regards to when things would happen. Some like myself have families and need to plan for these Events/game time in advance. This event failed in that regard badly, imho.)
4th place: Jumping tower. I liked it - but not as much as the other aspects.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
I prefer Rescuing to the other options. I'm not great at puzzles - and protecting missions can often fail through no fault of my own.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To see, accomplish, or expierience something that I can't normally do in game.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Not sure. This past weekend's event had so many little things going on that it's still had to take it all in. Seeing the city change is very cool. The pacing of it was well done. In a couple of other events that involved spawns in different areas have been done better than this past weekend, but the idea behind it was cool.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
A, D, C, and waaay back in last place.....B
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
I like the rescuing bit best. A small band of adventurers can sneak in and do something that all the might in the realm may not be able to do. I like that.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
The shared experience of a changing world.. from that standpoint a battle that alters Stormreach was a very good idea.. although you should have wrecked whole town.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
um, I'll give the nod to this past one, but on the leper-with-most-fingers standpoint.
Question 3

B. Lots of fun, but Veheer needed to give us something for our efforts.. start a quest from there, or give us a flashy item..
C. too few Monsters. too much lag.

This week's question(s) are:
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event? - To see it. I want(ed) to see whats going on, want to be part of it. So I could say "I was there, man, I was there"
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended? - My favourite was the one DDO done in Ataraxia's Haven. It wasn't for our level (14 at the time), but that was fun. I nearly caught one of the Dev's on my sprinting Barbarian...I think I scared him/her. But just something about that was fun.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying 4 - Im on Agronnessen.
B) Jumping tower 2 - Took me forever to get up there, but it was cool that it was put it. Still nothing compared to the Ranger Course in Japan though.
C) Monster fights 1 - Most, coulda been better if the lag was improved upon. I dunno, smaller instances of the market maybe?
D) NPC and Environment changes 3 - Environment change was awesome, NPC's popping up all mad cause they had been thrown outta the tent was cool. Then there is the pole-dancing guy, that made everything ok by me.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to? - The whole quest objective. I mean I like everything about most of the quests, rescue so and so, complete XXX puzzle, beatdown fifty guys. I like them all.

Kargon would have to say the wish cake portimion of this event, becuase nothaming so awesome as tasty ham rain.
3. Best, Jumping towermer. Secomond best NPC and environmament changames. third best roleplamaying and worst monster fights (silly lag). of course forgot the option of 'ninja loot' which kargon amazamingamally good at, especiamally when tasty ham involved, which would be bettermer than all 4 of those optimions ;)
4. kargon probamally like puzzle solving out of those choicames best, including jumping puzzumles (silly The Pit).

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To be honest, I'm not motivated to attend Live Events, for several reasons.
1) Unbearable lag. This is not numbered "1." by accident. It is THE reason I don't like DDO Live Events. Why participate if... I can't participate? Until you figure out a way to have a live event with no lag, there are no live events, just live "DDO Slideshows".
2) No meaningful reward. If I attend a live event, I want the equivalent of a fully-upgraded Tier 3 uber item. (or whatever the best item is in the game.) I do not want exp - I already have that. I do not want items already in the game elsewhere - I already have that. I want something that doesn't exist anywhere else in the game, and I want it to be the most uber thing since sliced bread. Without that, there is no reason to attend.
3) No way to tell that I did it. Adding cool titles to our Description when Examined that list our completed Live Events would ROCK. Giving us Favor for them would ROCK. Creating a Live Event Favor Reward at 75 favor, 150 favor and 400 favor would ROCK.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Asheron's Call, Shadow Invasion
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
#1. D
#2. C
#3. B
#4. A
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Puzzle Solving is great. Anything that doesn't simply involve killing monster after monster after monster is great. Rescuing/Protecting is horrible due to lag and AI issues.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Variety! It's almost as good as more content.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
I've only been to two, but here's my opinion anyway!
Deal or No Deal was nice because it was scheduled, it was done, and it didn't consume a ridiculous amount of time. However, a relatively tiny portion of the population was involved.
The Invasion of Stormreach finale was nice because it was grand. However, the lag was atrocious.
The first part of the Invasion of Stormreach was not much fun. The pace was just to slow.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
E) Barracks Quest - Hey look, content! Of course this is my favorite part.
C) Monster fights There were not anywhere near enough of these though. If anything like this is ever repeated, it would be better to have them randomly spawn in about 50-100 locations in the marketplace (so that people can't camp the spawn points). If the number alive reaches some minimum threshold, then randomly spawn some number more of random type and challenge rating. With all the warnings about devils in the marketplace, then there should have been devils in the marketplace constantly, not <1% of the time. As it was, I went looking for them many times and saw a grand total of about 20 over a week. Most of those (12-15) were in the last hour prior to the tent explosion.
D) NPC and Environment changes I am indifferent to the NPC changes, but the actual destruction of the tent was extremely cool. This would have been in 3rd place, but that display was fantastic.
B) Jumping tower Initially frustrating, but I liked it better than anything else in the first part of the week. It was always there, and everyone got to be involved. Everything else in the first part of the week was just waiting.
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying Least Favorite - although I consider these two different things. Roleplaying just isn't my cup of tea. As far as the other aspect, the story unfolded very slowly. I would have preferred that the entire thing was compressed to 1 night if it was kept the way it was. It's hard to get excited about anything when all you hear is check back tomorrow or in a couple of days.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Finding what's his name in the Coalescence Chamber and seeing if we can make him talk. The "kick in the door" style of play is how I prefer to unwind after work.
Puzzles are a close second -- I enjoy them very much.
I despise quests where we have to protect some idiot (Coyle). The eladrin in Ritual Sacrifice and the spider queen in Let Sleeping Dust Lie are at least an asset. Coyle needs to learn a thing or two about agro management from some of our more experienced rogues.

Q: What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
A: I thinks its kinda silly to play an MMO if you aren't going to be at the events. You guys are putting work into something that only happens once, so I darned well better be there.
Q: Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
A: Never attended a Live Event in another MMO. Not sure if they ever had any; if they did, it wasn't well advertised.
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
NPC and Environment changes Overfloweth with Teh Win and Awesome!
roleplaying The general chatter in the forums and market was very cool. Not under your control, but it implies that you set the right tone to inspire it.
Monster fights Wow. Them devils is rough.
The story unfolding I think you could have done better job at communicating this. I think the Twelve Rep could have recapped the current happenings and had random devil trivia, or spout esoteric arcane gibberish, as the story progressed. Something other than "Here's an Eagle's Splendor, come back tommorow"
Jumping tower It was manageble by a cleric in FP, so I'm not hating on it. Once I figured out to make the jumps blindfolded so I didn't over/under steer from lag.
Lag Overfloweth with Teh Lose
Rewards Were there any?
Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
A: No favorite. There are a few quest objectives that I avoid, in general:
"Stand here while we pour monsters on you"
"Stand here while one character does something vital to the quest's completion"
"Stand here and don't summon, jump, cast, shoot, or cough or it breaks the script and we all fail."
Anything on a timer.

1 What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Umm.. someone told me there would be punch and pie... Really though.. Umm.. It's fun. I don't care if I win anything by showing up. I just go to have fun. And when asked, I help out. I generally help out the caterers by passing out lemonade and cupcakes to the guests.
2 Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Umm.. Sharks and Minnows. That was my favorite. It's such a simple game and it a lot of fun to play and just to take over a pvp pit with. :D
Second to that, Musicman's, Battle of the Bards. Write up your own stuff and share it with the crowd. And when Musicman's computer crashes on you... begin to laugh maniacally and take over the stage.
Third... Tipsy TS. I don't need to explain why. XD
3 This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying

C) Monster fights

4 We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Well.. since my main objectives for any quest are to make my fellow questers laugh and have fun, and to try and keep them all alive (go go healer bard), I'll say puzzles, but this is a little tricky. I like puzzles but many quests when done in full party only involve one or two people to solve the puzzle. I like it when everyone gets to be involved with the solving. Hard to go about making it a team effort thing though, since a quest should still be solvable/completable by just one person, on there own.
Hmm.. suppose I could mention that some of my favorite puzzles involve riddles that are asked by npc's. Here's 3 options to answer. Get it wrong and DIE!! :3 I love them.
I like the one in Crucible( I think that's the one with the riddle book and your intuition tells you to take the middle door so you'll get a shower of death rained upon you. Hehe.. I love that.. Note to all, Never trust Jaggie's intuition.. unless you don't mind a mild case of death. *grin*)

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
This is my first, other than a UO homebrew server.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
A, C, D, B - I loved that we a story that changed things in Stormreach. I would have liked to see something that would have allowed us to determine Stormreach's fate in some way. I realize that this might have taken more work, and that this was the first event of its kind. I actually would suggest continuous events. For this one I would have had the devils and orthons randomly spawn in the marketplace randomly, and each one would drop a collectible, which we would turn in to one of the members of the Twelve (devilish/demonic heartstring). They would need a certain amount to drop the shield, and we could see a running tally. (At which point, they would schedule the ritual for some later time, so that everyone would know when it is and could try to attend.) In the future you could even release modules as events in this way, doling out the content as we complete objectives.
Also, since events are something that affects a lot of people at once, I was very disappointed to learn that the quest that ended it was not a raid quest. As a result, I wound up having to run it with only 3 people at first. I was hoping that since we didn't have a huge boss fight at the end (I expected the Pit Fiend to show up as 50-60 CR, and give about a half hour of a fight) that I could at least enjoy it with my guild mates. The Demon/Devil assault quest, while fun could have been a lot more fun it is was a raid, and the mobs were increased by a factor of three, and the size of the room was doubled.
I would also suggest that when you make an even where there is something large happening in a public area that you sugegst to people with non-optimal machines to turn down their graphic settings. My machine is on the low end of the spectrum, but when I turned down my graphic settings, it played pretty smooth.
The jumping to the tower was cool, but I was hoping for something a little more rewarding when I got there. Some better buffs would have been nice. (Greater Heroism, Stone Skin, etc.)
All suggestions aside, it was a GREAT event, and I had a blast. Even my wife, who is not in to MMO's and was giving me a hard time about staying in on a Saturday understood when she saw what happened. :) Thank you VERY much to everyone that made it possible, I really appreciate it.
Now, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Puzzle-solving, but REAL puzzle solving (so it needs to be randomized, like the lights-out puzzle in the Shroud).

Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Last week's questions -
1) too shy - would rather do stuff by myself than deal with everyone else's expectations
2) keep up with the latest news/rumors/complaints, check the newbie forums for any questions I might be able to answer
3) finishing any tough quest with my static group, seeing a friend pull Chaosgarde on our first (possibly only) Xorian run
This week:
1) wanting to "be in on it" - being there while it's happening instead of just reading about it later
2) The DDO event certainly beats most of the "seasonal festival" type events I've seen in other games. Most memorable for me was probably the evolving storyline about Bael'zharon in AC1. Not sure that qualifies as a live event, though.
3) D, A, B, C. Monster fights were too hard to get involved in for me (generally instant death, though they were cool to watch from a distance). Jumping tower was good jumping practice, but would have been nice to know before spending half an hour working to get to the top that there was nothing much up there. Story and environment changes - well, it's always good to keep things evolving. Keeps the game interesting.
4) Puzzle solving/strategy - figuring out the right way to complete a quest instead of just charging in with the exact same weapons/spells/tactics every time. Would be nice if it were a little easier to back off and regroup when the first attempt doesn't work out though, instead of party wipes until you figure out the trick (I realize this doesn't apply to those who just look up the right strategy in advance, but then they probably aren't in it for the strategic/puzzle-solving aspect in the first place)

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
I don't usually get to participate in the live events, this is mainly due to time constraints on when I can play. The multi-day (and multi-hour) nature of this event gave me a chance to jump in when I had some time. Having the main event ending on the weekend really helped to make it so that I could attend.
The progressive enviomental effects really helped to get me intrested in what was going to happen, and want to see it in person. I did see it, and it was really cool.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
This is the only MMO that I have attended an event for.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
D) NPC and Environment changes
C) Monster fights
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
About (B): The tower just didn't have much purpose. I didn't mind the jumping too much, but the dialog Vahner (whateverhisnameis) had seemed rather shallow, and pointless. I got more out of reading the forums than from what he had to say. Being able to get to a higher vantage point was fun. I love trying to climb (jump) up to high points in whatever instance I'm in, so it was fun.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Like is hard, dislike is much easier. Threnal East #3 is really bad... really bad. I do like the protect him, and take him here quests though, just not the stand here and get beat on part.
Puzzles are usually fun, the puzzles in the Shroud, and Reavers fate are nice. I haven't tried the Orchard Raid, so don't have any comment on it.

Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
1. Curiousity, community, and hopefully to be given a sense of purpose in the world we inhabit. Also maybe some title or unique(trivial) item to show we were there.
2. Probably killing the Avatar of War for the first time in Everquest. It wasn't a GM hosted event but required a large number of the community to work together and take down the toughest mob in the game at the time (I think there was around 200 pcs or so). There was an epic feeling to what we were accomplishing.
3. Ranking
1. Jumping Tower - If only it was bigger and had traps like what the Japense server had :(.
2. Monster fights - These didn't seem to matter at all. What would have happened if we didn't kill the demons? There was no importance or meaning behind this.
3. Story - Where was the story? All we did was stand around while the NPC's ultimately ended up doing everything. Being told come back tomorrow and then still being given no importance was dull. The outcome was staged from the beginning, regardless of what we did, which makes for a very, poor story.
4. NPC/Environment changes - This would have been more interesting given players had a chance to affect the outcome. Maybe if we didn't kill enough demons things would have been different? Maybe if we failed something things could have changed?
4. Puzzle solving like the Pit. Please don't make them with 800x different types of mobs though where you spend more time switching between weapons than you do on the quest (Rainbow in the Dark :().

This week's question(s) are:
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
This was my first live event. I was always sad I was on Fernia when Merlask was doing events on Thelanias. The Devs did a good job of building this event up. As a casual player this was going to give me some insight into the higher level stuff I won't experience for some time. I am not in any hurry as I take the game at my speed, not someone else's.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
I haven't attended any event other than the anniversary one.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying The story unfolded?? It moved to slow to be called unfolding. Then it exploded. IMHO.
B) Jumping tower I never went near it. I read on the forums people bragging how they griefed other players through debuffing and wanted no part in that. I do not understand that mind set.
C) Monster fights Monster fights. I tried. I really did. I had my highest level, a 13th pally out. It was a waste of time for me. I stayed until I ran out of plat to repair my gear. If this was to be an anniversary celebration why was it used to milk plat out of the game?
D) NPC and Environment changes I do believe that a memorial to E. Gary Gygax is appropriate. Taking up the whole of the hole that was the tent may be a little much. The event is over. Clerics must be out healing the injured by now? I liked the tent.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
It was STK that set the hook with me. I still love that quest. I guess I like explorer quests. I enjoy avenging some wrong. I have a stong belief that heros fight for good.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Normally I don't turn up to live events due to lag etc, however the last one in DDO had a good build up both in and out of game.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
DDO is the only MMO i've played where i have attended live events, and I would say that the last one with the Devil Invasion was the best.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
A - I had a great time getting the word out to other guilds as though it was a combined effort to protect Stormreach.
D - Loved what looked to be an Ion Cannon strike on the Market Tent - It seriously rocked!
C - The monster fights were great, however it would've been good to have a few more "scouting parties" turn up in build up to the main event.
B - Lag and jumping do not mix
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
I personally like the straight forward hack and slash type quests, puzzles are fine but they shouldn't be quest breaking ie. can't solve the puzzle restart the quest.....

Question 1
When playing any multi-player game, which of the following best describes you?
"I try to find a group as fast as possible. I hate trying to figure this stuff out by myself."
"I try to find a group as fast as possible. The more the merrier!"
"I try to run some things on my own at first, then I try to rustle up a group once I've investigated."
"I try to go it alone as much as possible. I can't stand other people"
"I try to go it alone as much as possible. I'm too shy to deal with other people"
Question 2
When you visit community forums, what is your primary interest in doing so? (examples: news from developers, socializing with server mates, at work and can't log in, etc)
Question 3
What is your most happy and/or memorable in-game moment?
Would still have to be the first couple days when i first started. At that point, every single detail was new, and held some level of mystery.
This week's question(s) are:
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Fun
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Only played DDO. So far, the scavenger hunt was a lot of fun. (despite the reward on that one being a little lacking.)
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower == Least, but not disliked.
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes == Best
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Anything but the 'protecting'. NPC AI is just too dead/confused for that atm.

This week's question(s) are:
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
A change of pace, and to have a fun time with my guildies.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
So far, I liked this past event best on DDO. For me, as a writer, the story aspect really made it fun for me - more so than stuff I've done on other MMO.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying Loved the story! I don't roleplay in my guild, but it was really fun to see that incoporated. That is, after all, what D&D is! :D
D) NPC and Environment changes I might even say this ties with story for #1 for me. Was really neat to watch the world change while we were looking at it. Really added to the flavor and effect of the story telling.
C) Monster fights Fun, despite the lag of course - but the lag in the market I expected. It was even more frustrating, however, when the lag carried over into the new quest. The lag was so bad, no spells were firing even after comsuming SP. Made us wipe. :( We opted to just come back another night to try again, which was a little bit of a bummer after being all excited about it.
B) Jumping tower Lag again was an issue here. If there had been no lag, I don't think it would have been as frustrating. Since lag seems to be hand in hand with live events - which I expect and understand! :) - maybe consider that next time. Regardless, it was pretty cool to have it sudddenly pop up and have to climb to the top, in a story telling sense.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to? Since I'm normally on my healer, I'd have to say a challenging fight for #4. When I have to really work to keep the group alive, and then get to be all /rawr and /flex afterwards when we win. Also, puzzles can be fun too. :D

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Seeing something new, for the first time, with others.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
The Exploding Tent Occurance of '08.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying- THIRD FAVORITE (3)
B) Jumping tower- MOST FAVORITE (1)
C) Monster fights- LEAST FAVORITE (4) (but it was still fun)
D) NPC and Environment changes- SECOND FAVORITE (2)
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
1- exploring or discovering new information in game (runner up is finding and rescuing NPCs, except ones that look female and talk in shrieking male voices) (puzzle solving is tedious and tends to be done mainly by one or two people that have them memorized or use puzzle solving charts)
Affront

Answer 1 - well my motivation for attending this live event (on the Sunday and then the Saturday) was to see what a live event was like (Sunday) and then what you were going to do to get rid of the tent.
Answer 2 - this is the only live event I've really attended (see my answer to similar previous question) so I can't really answer
Answer 3 - (most at the top, least at the bottom)
C) Monster fights
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
D) NPC and Environment changes [the environment change seems half done - which is nice; the coin lords should not have a handy set up ready for immediately after the removal of the tent]
Answer 4 - I like resucuing. This could be because there are so few rescue quests. There are a lot of puzzle quests which are fun (both direct puzzles like the mindsweeper in Stormreaver & indirect like in the Shroud where we have to split up the named monsters)
Question 1 - I have a question for you :) do keep the answers tied to individual users in a database so that you could actually look back at my previous responses to similar questions?

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To experience something with my guild that is new, interesting and unfolding live. It can be a rush.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
I don't play any other MMOs. The most recent was my favorite, but the lag was so bad on Ghallanda (and I *never* lag with my PC) that my participation was limited. Cometfalls often hit literally 20-30 sec after I cast them... and this was a shared experience.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
B) Jumping tower
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
A SHOULD have been my most favorite, but was the least. The story proceeded too slowly - and Veheer's story rarely changed. And there are so many unanswered questions - why didn't we take the fight to Shavarath? What happened to Sir Lawrence? What do the symbols mean? Why the barracks for portals when portals already existed in the city? Just seemed like there were too many holes in a slow moving story line.
But that tent explosion sure was cool :)
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Rescuing is my favorite. But I'll do anything for Phat Loot :)

Question 1 - I have a question for you :) do keep the answers tied to individual users in a database so that you could actually look back at my previous responses to similar questions?
I keep a couple different versions of responses archived... all the originals in order (basically just a "raw" copy), a sorted copy where I track responses vs the question and chart it on graphs and other fun stuff, and sorted responses by folks who answer frequently or in-frequently, etc. So yes, I can tie it back to an individual as needed, but I rarely need to narrow in on "ah HA! Each week respondent #456 has always used a red font" ... not that I don't notice such things. I have a very odd memory when it comes to things like that... for example, when some of you change your forum avatars it always makes me do a double take ^^

1. participating with as many people as possible
2. Devils attack the Marketplace (sorry I've only played DDO so I don't have a broad set of candidates)
3. A D C B. I would rank B lower but there are only four slots :)
4. Definitely not escort missions, I hate those. Otherwise I prefer a variety of differing challenges.
p.s. When I proved unable to jump to the tower I instead tried to teleport until everything went pear-shaped and float in. It nearly worked too, but invisible constraints in the air made it impossible - just baaaarreelyy - to land on the tower platform.
p.p.s I did eventually get one character up to the tower. Knowing it would never happen again, I left her there for the remainder of the week and just played other characters.
p.p.s.s. You forgot "E) Art" as a choice for question 3. It would have been my number one. Oh... and also "F) Gotta know what happens next". Unless that counts as A?

03-10-2008, 06:49 PM
1. Other guild members wanted to do it.
2. This is the only MMO I am playing at the moment (that may change if they do NOT implement gnomes soon). Unfortunately, the lag is soooo bad I do not enjoy these live events.
3. A --> B --> D --> C
4. I enjoy role playing quests where all members are involved to solve the problem, then exploring quests followed by puzzle solving. Escorting/protecting/rescue quests are not too fun.

What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To see what happens/not miss out on anything interesting or unique.
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
I've only attended them here and haven't really cared for any of them. The latest one was probably my favorite though, since it lasted longer and allowed everyone to participate.
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
1 - best. 4 - worst.
1) Jumping tower
2) NPC and Environment changes
3) The story unfolding/roleplaying
4) Monster fights [I only didn't like this because of the lag and the fact that i simply don't like fighting teleporting enemies. Well and the annoying loot mechanism, though i got very lucky on that front]
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Depends.
When soloing i really like puzzles and jumping and anything not directly combat related. Well except rune wheels, i hate rune wheels.
When in a group, however, i just like fighting. Puzzles are very tedious in a group, especially in a raid. The floor tiles in VoN5, for example, is a pain. No one wants you to touch it unless you have it memorized, and rightly so, since if you have more then one person working on it chances are they'll just get in each other's way. An odd design choice for a RAID!

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Story, fun, and seeing a bunch of friends in one place. ;)
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
The one that just happened last week. No game I have EVER played has done an event of that magnitude, not even WoW, where I saw a tent. Friggin'. EXPLODE.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
D) NPC and Environment changes
C) Monster fights
Note that B and D are pretty much tied for second.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Probably the protecting or rescuing kind. I just tend to like that kind of knight-hood-esque stuff.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To be part of the history and to participate, to see what will happen, and to have fun.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
This last event was the best for me.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
1. D) NPC and Environment changes
2. A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
3. C) Monster fights
4. B) Jumping tower
Difference between 2 and 4 is very slim, I liked all of these.
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
History is important for me in quests, a quest like the Abbot where he put some puzzles in his own ascenscion room to make sure we can stop him dosn't make any sense at all. A great quest for it's history and DM interaction is the Catacombs, but it's ruined by the poor choices of monsters, hello slimes. How can you now do Raid the Vulkoorim and especially An Offering of Blood with a Drow Cleric with follower of Vulkoor, you're going against your own god. And how a Paladin can do Purge the Heretics.
I also like puzzles, but it's a limited option, because I like some puzzles (Twilight Forge puzzles (my favorite quest), Stormreaver puzzle and most other tiles puzzles, even the Shroud have a good choice of puzzles) and some puzzles are a great idea, like the Tomb of the Tormented, but they have annoying monsters so it made it less enjoyable but I hate with a passion puzzles like the Abbot puzzles.
Protecting can be fun, but when you have to protect someone as stupid and suicidal as Coyle, it's not that fun at all, it seems all Threnal have this suicidal tendencies. The guy we have to protect in the Gnoll City in Meridia is very well made because he's actually powerful and can do his fair part in battles. Protecting the Seers in Madstone is a great idea.
I like exploring, some quests need us to explore, I like that. Rescuing also make in most times a good quest.
The classic "Get rid of the bad guys" is also good.

What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
Being a part of something big (possibly) or just something to do that isn't the same old grind.
Question 2

The CoX Holiday event was, by far, the best I've been a part of. Something to do at every level and everywhere you go, not just in specific locations.

This week's question(s) are:
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
I like being a part of the change, especially on those rare MMOs that actually change things rather than just add end-game content (since I've played MMOs for 8 years but have yet to make it to end-game on any). It's also really great to be around all those other players, and see how they react.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Since you added the word 'attended,' last week is the only one that qualifies. To be honest, though, it was a bit more fun for the AC1 events, because the changes were so drastic and so frequent. I really loved the first Asheron's Call story arc (Asheron vs. Bael'Zharon), even though I was under level 30 and never anywhere near anything that happened. It was just fun to hear the rumors--PC and NPC--and to poke around the 'net trying to figure out what happened. To be fair, we still don't know where Sir Lawrence is, or what will happen with that crater...or why I was still getting ambushed by devils, why there's still graffiti, and why Veheer didn't reward us better. Is he a powerless n00b like me, or just too stuck up to share the love? ;) So I'd really not call this event completely over.
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
A and D rank highest...really, a tie. I love environment changes, and the actual portal closing was theatrical and epic; I got a bigger thrill out of that than any movies I've seen lately. It was cool to see the story unfold, and to catch whiff of the RP'ing going on (here on the forums mainly), but to be honest from an RP standpoint none of my characters cared much what was going on. It was a 'vast and mysterious' event, as promised, but my characters (at this point) are 'small and personable,' so not much of a match. But that's an RP-only standpoint. :)
C was really cool to watch, even when it was laggy...but with the level spread present in the marketplace, none of my characters were able to really help. I cast Raise Dead a few times, but anything small enough for me to injure was destroyed pretty much instantly. Since I've mentioned AC1 already, and I can never get away with just mentioning it once, I liked (overhearing) the quests where it took two separate groups of different levels to complete it (some of the crystal dungeons left from the first event, if I remember correctly). Being able to actually help with the event, even though my highest is 9, would have really heightened the experience for me.
B was fun, too, and I hope we get to keep that playground. It was jumpable with my 10 STR, 0 Jump, FP-wearing cleric, so any character could make it; from what I saw (during low-lag off hours), most people messed themselves over by casting Haste and Jump. I could understand how bad it would be during a peak time, when everyone is trying at the same time. I personally feel this part could have gone over better if Veheer could have done more for us as a reward; maybe all his possible spells at once (+4 enhancement bonus on all stats, caster level 25 Aid, for 30 minutes, doesn't drop on zoning into a quest). A nifty title or some unique lore would have been cool too. :)
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Usually my objective when questing is to help the rest of the group get through the quest. I know that's not exactly what you asked, but that's the best answer I've got. Beyond that, on my ranger I like assault quests--Splinterskull is a lot of fun, and Greymoon will be when he gets there; on my rogue, I'd like to see more quests where violence isn't the answer; possibly even quests without mobs. I realize that's a lot of dev time devoted to a small segment of either players or characters, but the violent people have plenty of content already. ;)
I will add in one more comment on the 'protecting' quests...I also play LOTRO (just not half as much as DDO), and I really love the protection quests there. When the NPC is a combat character, they fight, and are usually sensitive to your CC. When they're non-combat, they cower and don't draw agro, letting the player control the fight a lot easier. I've only defended Coyle once (in the library), but between him and those goofy sailors from that quest in Three-Barrel Cove, I wince when I see the objective "must keep alive." Especially on my cleric...they're as bad a zergers! ;)

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
To hang out with heaps of other players, and muck around and have a laugh (for instance, I was the one that put up the LFM on Khyber saying "We welcome our new Shavarrath Overlords" - got quite a comical response)
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Only been to Mod 6.1
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
First would have been C, save for the lag and instance hoppers kinda wrecking it. Duoing CR33 Kasquik the Mighty with another player was great, and quite survivable, until two raid parties worth of players showed up and caused so much lag I died but sat on 110hp for over 2 minutes.
That makes #1 go to the NPC changes. The in-jokes that only people who frequent the forums could get were a great touch - Natt Gann and the beggars saying 'We're DDOOOOOOOMMMED!!!' was a total classic.
The Jumping Tower was hilarious. Keeper's revenge for the 'whoever puts all this Mario stuff in the game should be shot' jokes?
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
I like a certain type of puzzle - one like Inferno of the Damned, where the key challenge is the combat encounters, but there's a puzzle (the maze) which everyone can participate in.
I'm also a huge fan of optional objectives related to protection/rescuing, etc. Things like the Cursed Crypt's "Kill No Silver Flame Hostages" optional. Especially if the in-game rewards are worth it.
Overall tho, my favorite quests are the ones that can be completed in many ways.

1) Motivation for attendance:
To see something interesting and out of the ordinary.
2) Favorite Live event?
The only other MMO I've played is LotRO and I haven't attended any live events there.
3) Rank the features
A: I'm a big RPer and it was really cool to see all the activity. Would have been even better if there was more in game RP stuff to do.
D: Quite interesting and certainly added a lot, really was the bulk of the fuel for A other than Dev posts
B: I'm not a great jumper, but it was fun to practice on. Not really worth it to get to the top except to say "Sweet, I did it."
C: This doesn't count the quest, I assume? The live fights were okay. I had a good time running from a devil with classic leaping across buildings and other action movie stuff. But mostly the elites were way out of my league (yeah, I could hurt them but not enough to matter). And if the fight went on very long, so many folks showed up my client couldn't handle it. Its not exactly uber. If you include the post finale quest.. well, I love that thing. I made four pugged shots at it on hard (didn't have what it took for wave 5's orthons apparently) and my regular small play group did it on normal (3x11, 1x10). The first 4 waves were easy, but the fifth wave was a good solid fight. Looking forward to trying hard with my regular group when we level up a bit.
4) Types of objectives
Well, I like variety really. Protecting is the most intense, because my bard tends to need to focus solely on that NPC (I'm the main healer in our group) and its really pass/fail. Rescues are the most RP interesting, but rarely much of a gameplay issue. I like puzzles, but they are tricky in practice. I always do the floor tile type puzzles in our group, while the matching wheel type puzzles fall to another player. The main issue with puzzles is keeping everyone involved, which rarely seems to be the case unless there is a fight going on while someone tries to solve the puzzle. Really, though, I just like exploring places the most.

Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
RP story that you can see grow in front of you. And the how the forums grew added to the story.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
Up until now I saw WoW, and EQ and thought that the live events where top notch, but the fact that they had to bring down servers for a short time to upload new part of the story kind of took away from the whole feel… What DDO did was taking Never Winter Nights DM client and put it into a MMO… “The Tent just blew the @#$% up” was all I heard on my speakers for about an hour after the event… This event took the cake and put that bar high…
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/role-playing
B) NPC and Environment changes
C) Jumping tower
D) Monster fights (due to no enough, there was way more in the Alpha and Beta stress tests then there where on Live events)
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Protecting and the Rescuing kind, for me it always give the feel of D&D. What I would like to see is more of Eberron type stories… the twits… the pulp adventure and film noir that it was created from. This live event felt like DDO was going in the right direction for this. “Are the 12 behind the explosion of the Tent?”

1. Thought it would be a kewl thing to attend just found myself getting killed all week on my low level characters. Then sitting for 2 hours doing nothing, the events that took place shouldve happened in about 30 mins max, waiting around for most of 2 hours not good, then a final big battle within our grasp and the tent just got taken away.
2. Not that I really have a favorite, but it defininately wouldn't be this event we had here.
3. Cant really rate them except the story would come dead last, Basically this is a mock-up of 9-11 and is completely unexceptable in being as such, The market tent was a center of comerce and it got sucked away into an evil vortex by devils. I wont go too much into describing my thoughts here but shame on neone in the story developement that thot of doing this in a representation of their beliefs against other peoples cultures, cuz to me thats how it came across a mock-up joke to basically call people of a certain culture devils. Amongst all the angst built up thinking it was going to be something kewl this point I've said here made it really upsetting.

Honestly, boredom and intrigue. Game gets boring over long stretches with little or no content (as has been the case for me lately) and intrigue - to see if it is interesting or not.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
I have only attended a few events sponsored by 'the company' and I really can't say I enjoyed any of them so far. I came, some something, and then left.. I got little out of it personally.

1. To see an event that will change the current world or a portion of the current world or in the case of holiday events, to celebrate the holiday.
2. EQ 2 has used Live Events to great advantage over the years. They used one to introduce new characters (Return of the Froglocks) , introduced new travel (Reclaiming the Wilderness - griffon travel) and long lasting events like "The Plague" which affected all zones and all levels. Most ended up with permanent effects on the world.
3. ADBC
4. Avenging (killing / mayhem)

Last Weeks:
Question 1
When playing any multi-player game, which of the following best describes you?
* "I try to find a group as fast as possible. I hate trying to figure this stuff out by myself."
* "I try to find a group as fast as possible. The more the merrier!"
* "I try to run some things on my own at first, then I try to rustle up a group once I've investigated."
* "I try to go it alone as much as possible. I can't stand other people"
* "I try to go it alone as much as possible. I'm too shy to deal with other people"
A: Depends on how I'm feeling at the time or what kind of day I've had, sometimes I just want to solo, but mostly I'd go with "I try to find a group as fast as possible. The more the merrier!"
Question 2
When you visit community forums, what is your primary interest in doing so? (examples: news from developers, socializing with server mates, at work and can't log in, etc)
A: Just to see what's new or interesting that's happening while I am at work, it also give me an outlet for when I just can't stare at m work any longer without a break.
Question 3
What is your most happy and/or memorable in-game moment?
A: Last night traded a guildie cheaply for my first +2 tome, a CHA tome for my Sorc, 33 CHA at level 11 (1.7k away from leveling when I logged, guess where that stat point is going :D) boo-yah Baby!
This week's question(s):
Question 1
What is your primary motivation for attending a Live Event?
A: 2 reasons, the first being I love to play with my guildies, but am often left behind as I am more casual than them so I'm usually lower level. And second, because Live events only happen once (usually) I like to get in on them while I can.
Question 2
Of any Live Event from any MMO, what is one of your favorite events you attended?
A: I've only been able to attend the invasion, but that was near complete awesomeness, (only thing that would make it better is leaving in the devil assault quest permanently)
Question 3
This event had several aspects to it over the course of the week. Rank the following choices from most to least favorite:
A) The story unfolding/roleplaying
B) Jumping tower
C) Monster fights
D) NPC and Environment changes
A: Ooh all of those were nice, but I'd have to go with: C-A-D-B(but only because I never had anything to do up top of the tower)
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
A: Hard to say, I like alot of different types of quests, so it depends on my mood at the time.

Mostly to see if there's any new development news, and contribute some ideas of my own. It also doesn't hurt that I'm bored at work. :D
Question 3
What is your most happy and/or memorable in-game moment?
Hmm, there's quite a few memorable times. But I would say it was fighting Velah. Our group only had 1 fighter left standing, and just before he died he managed to get a Raise Dead cake cast upon one of the clerics, saving our group from a wipe. We then went on to kill Velah, and a rare (for back then) +2 Dex tome dropped.

Seeing what cool things might happen, and collecting rare items ala Wayfinder's Scepter.

Scavenger Hunt was probably one of my favorites. Of course nothing really beats the tent being sucked up into a giant swirling vortex.

In order from Most Liked to Least Liked. (I really like them all though)

3) The story unfolding/roleplaying
4) Monster fights (Only because of all the lag, and so few spawns in between each fight)
Question 4
We'll smuggle one non-event question in with these this week: Of all the quest objectives in DDO (protecting, rescuing, puzzle solving, etc) what quest objective type do you find yourself drawn to?
Puzzle Solving definately.
