The goal of this build is to try and get the most out of both fighter and ranger levels, and allow the possibility to reach 15 ranger by level 20. By taking 12 levels of ranger I get the best of the ranger buffs, all of the free feats that I need for TWF, 3 favored enemies and all but one of the enhancements for favored enemy. By taking 4 levels of fighter, I can take weapon focus and specialization for an additional +1 to hit and +2 to damage on all targets.

I'd like to check that the core of my build makes sense before proceeding.

Human
Neutral Good
12 ranger/4 fighter

Starting stats are as follows:

STR 18 +4 levels
DEX 14
CON 15
INT 8
WIS 10
CHA 8

Everything else is item-dependent.

It seemed logical that with mid-300 projected hit points and 24-26 dex at 16, evasion and light armor would serve me better than MFP.

Dex 14 base +3 ranger enhancements +1 human +2 tome +6 item = 26 maximum projected. 24 should be eay to reach

STR will receive the most attention with

18 base +4 levels +1 fighter, +1 human, +2 1750 tome, + 6 item = 32
Madstone boots, Rams Might, Rage potion = 38

Stunning Blow or OTWF may turn into IC: Pierce or Toughness

why dont you drop the str to 17, and take 2 monk levels. With a +1 tome, 4 more pts from the Str reduction, a +6 item, and a +1 wis form being a human, you could 22 wis for +6 AC from 2 monk levels.

just a thought

Maybe cause monks are still months away?

How about 1 level of barbarian and go with a level 11 ranger 4 fighter 1 barbarian. I love that barbarian speed it rocks. Level 12 ranger gets you 30 resists and I think 1 more for your barkskin, but I got to say I love that speed.. I probably will do more ranger when the cap goes to 18 but it depends on the prestige classes tempest II and if/when they add fighter prestige classes..

I am intrigued about making a cleric/monk build. A human cleric level 14 monk level 2 would be cool. I would have evasion (I have to put alot of points into dex) and 2 extra points in wisdom.. rocks..

I am not expecting to have a very high AC, and 2 monk levels would prevent me from getting weapon specialization slash and level 15 ranger in the same build. As I understand it, level 15 is where I'd need to go to get STWF as a ranger feat if it ever comes out.

for a monk to get that AC bonus he has to be unarmored, even light armor negates this. True this would still net him a couple extra AC but not really worth it in my opinion for a build like this.

edit. sorry not thinking today; somehow I didn't think to take into account armored bracers. Definitely end up with a higher AC that way then.

ranger resists 30 are at lvl 11, btw.

Anyone can get superior twf with the right dex. also, if you're dex is high enough you can easily wear robes, get the monk bonus, and have ******** high AC. You could always build the build so that when the cap goes to 18 you take 2 monk levels.
Like i said before, it's just thought.

Nice build.

End HP of 300-325 is good but not great. Personally, I'd go dwarf for ~100 extra HP.

Toughness: 16
Dwarf Enh: 50
Ftr Enh: 15
+2 CON: 16
Total +97HP

Cost is 2 feats (Human Bonus, Toughness). If you go this route, you could give up Stunning Blow, and .... I don't know, Khopesh? Would require more AP from axe enhancements to keep pace. OTOH D-axes are plentiful.

If the OP is willing to make a shroud raid hit point item +45 hp that would put this build in the 360 hp area which wouldn't be too bad and would be good enough for tanking the pit fiend in part 5 on normal. That is what I am looking to do with my halfling 11 ranger /1 barbarain / 4 fighter...

Like i said before, it's just thought.

The point of the build is to deal DPS, however. I don't want to change focus.

For the same reason I can't give up stunning blow or khopesh. If not for the GS khopesh I would probably go full piercing. If there was a green steel dwarven axe, I would have gone dwarf.
