View Full Version : Why only chain shirts?

What about DOCENTS!?

How about all the Heavy, Medium and Light armors?

Robes

Weapons (all)

What about named and unique items that are not found in raids?

What about Docents?

Yeah I said that one twice because they REALLY need love.

I am personally sick and tired of running around in a neon green or pink Barbarian. I did not subscribe to DDO to play a Malibuforged.

Oh. That.

Presumably the answer is: They can only devote so much animator/artist time to new item skins in each module without giving up quality improvements in other areas.

Because docents already have at least TWO colors, which puts them ahead of all the chain shirts out there. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a chain shirt that didn't look like every other chain shirt in the game?

I have had a few different colors....

The one I'm wearing on one of my characters right now (+1 Fearsome Mithral of something) looks OMG horrendous. Then again, the skin is the same, it's just a totally fruity color.

Probably because there are only 2 distinct styles of chain shirts. Chain shirts are also one of the most popular armors in the game since they give the highest armor bonuses in the game with mithral. I'll be interested to see what these new chain shirts look like.

I was kinda disappointed that we finally got Leafweave and Darkleaf Breastplates and they all kinda look the same and are all fairly ugly. Theres so many good leather armor designs, it's a shame they didn't adapt those for the new armor styles.

You are correct that docent looks need some work.

The biggest problem with DDO's docents is that all the unarmed body docents look like either Mage (80%) or Rogue (20%) styles. The very many unarmored Warforged Barbarians in DDO don't have a clothing choice that reflects their character.

I would suggest that Turbine resolve this technically, by creating a command allowing players to set one of three modes for an unarmored docent to display:
0. Mage
1. Rogue
2. Barb

There are unadorned ones as well that are suitable for any character, but they seem to be rarer. My docent of invulnerability looks exactly like the warforged standing at the entrance to the market.

Heck, I have a +5 docent of axeblock that looks like no docent at all. Same graphic with it on as with it nothing on at all. Imagine pulling that +5 mithril full plate... and it's got the same graphic as your skivvies... at the very least it's unnerving, even for a warforged.

Clerics especially... they would think you are running naked, then you announce your AC and they say ".... WHAT!?!?... how...??????"

They'll have to kill all the halflings first... and THAT is trickier than you might think.

Wait, what?

Mithral Full Plate: 8 Armor, 3 Dexterity = 11 AC
Mithral Chain Shirt: 4 Armor, 6 Dexterity = 10 AC

Likely meant highest 'light armor' bonus in game...
Or meant the highest DEX bonus on an armor...
*shrug*

Dunno. Chain shirts now, some other armor type later. I'm patient.

I think many of us have made a sound argument about the aesthetics of this game. Especially when concerning the look of our characters. We as players invest a great deal of time into making our beloved characters more interesting. I think we deserve a broader choice of apparel. In ALL categories.

You sound defensive of their effort. It's been almost 2 years since the last aesthetic update to the random loot tables. In all truth I feel it is the games named/rare items that need the most love. If you're defensive you may be satisfied. I am not.

Really? I could have sworn new skins went in more recently than launch. We did just have the 2 year anniversary ya know.

For two levels I was stuck wearing a +3 Docent that looked like a pineapple skin, hula skirt. I got made fun of all the time. I was made fun of so much that my livewood was weeping and nearly rusted some of my more delicate areas. My internal life matrix shrank day by day. That was until I turned level 6 and was able to put on a far more attractive +3 Docent of Lesser Ice Guard.

Now, I'm all the rave and the other Warforged wizards are so jealous. Style means a lot even to a Warforged. We're not just wood and stone you know. Well, ok, we're mostly wood and stone, but we have some feelings somewhere. We just usually leave them at home so they don't get hurt while others make fun of our lousy, fruity looking, docents.

Nah, you just tell them you want to give them some candy and then you smash them when they come to get it.

No it isn't. It was right around Mod1 that we got an update to weapon and armor decals. Any new graphics since then have been raid only.

That's when we got our Heavy Metal shortswords and Dragon Sword long swords. etc.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a talior in the game where players could make cosmetic alterations to their armor? While I appreciate the artistic efforts put into the game, it is time for an update to armor all around. I like new shiny things! :D

Yes it is. There have been several new shield and helmet looks since then.

And I'm pretty sure some weapon frames too.

Though I suppose it depends on what you want to define "almost" as when you say "almost two years."

Note that you said loot tables, not just weapon and armour.

Mod 2 introduced some Oriental designs (shields, the 'lampshade' hat).

Drow introduced some intricate purple armour like the kind Nerezza wears.

Ataraxia's haven I believe introduced the armour like the kind the elf chick is wearing on the front.

The 'bandolier' style WF docent was introduced well after launch.

I sincerely believe that the 'delicate tiara' style headgear was within the last year as well.

Sorry, that's all I can think of for now.
