THis might not be a popular thread but just thought I would float it out there.

Clerics, to me anyway, have become a tad borring to play. Something for future developement might be Domains and Druids. Healers are a needed commodity in the game and it would likely do well to spice them up a bit. Many keep a closet cleric for guild runs and then quickly put them away in favor of their more favored classes.

Just a suggestion...

Dunno why you think this would be unpopular... Domains are something we clerics have asked for since headstart.

Druids arent healers.... Bards can be built as better healers than Druids.. I really cant understand why peoplefeel druids are going to be the second coming of a primary healing class....

IF all you do with your cleric is heal, then yah it could get boring, but you can be so much more. Seriously, expand your horizons a bit. I can match a wizard in the Vale (sorcs just tooo dang fast). Banish, Destruction, Blade Barriers, and more. Call in nice kitty cats, swap spells at any rest stop....can wear heavy armor and mix it up on the front lines too...

So that is why you stink at healing. That explains alot

get quicken spell and 30% striders, then you can match the sorcs on kills, and heal yourself backup if things get nasty in a fight.

Next to my Sorc, my CLERIC is my best killer. And the best part... I can respec her spells according to quest, so she's a **** good healer too. Mix it up a bit, you'll be surprised at what you can do.

I got the striders...and I can keep up speed wise, but do not have quicken.

When was the last time I let your cleric die...oh silent one.....:)

Its Triage man, sometimes its just triage...someone gonna die...thems da breaks....

Now what we really need is someway to break out of a casting animation to cast a different spell. You know, those nice long animations where about half way into it the meta situation changes and you really need to drop a heal...sigh.

Well I have my guildees trained, if there is a blade barrier, then any healing from me is optional and should not be expected. If you die in this same alloted time, you will stay dead, until either the blade barrier goes down, or everything is dead... depending on my mood.

I'm surprised my guildees still run with me.

I don't know, I just rolled up a new Cleric and made him more along the lines of what I interpret to be a classic D&D Cleric. I love my 28 point first cleric heal bot, but he can't fight if he's the last one standing, and he has crummy HP and AC (33 on a good buff day).

My new cleric is a Dwarf, can melee with the best of them, has mucho HP and right now a buffed 36 AC (40 vs Giants) and he's only level 6. I don't consider him a battle cleric (not even considering a level of fighter), but he is very capable of battle and his primary stat is still WIS. I have no tomes in him, save for the yummy chocolate cake. I've haven't had so much fun playing a cleric since I rolled him up.

I always run stealthy as a cleric because you get non-stop tells, even while in parties sometimes. It's just the nature of the beast if you have a cleric.

A couple things that probably turn off some to playing a cleric is the "cost" and the other is the pigeon holing. A lot of players want a cleric in the back buffing and healing. If they see you swing a weapon they freak out and start calling you a battle cleric like it's some kind of swear word.

Clerics in D&D could hold their own in combat and the build I currently play can contribute to the overall party DPS as well as heal.

So as far as I'm concerned, Cleric != Boring. At least not mine anyway.

My Cleric can turn undead; can you turn undead?......I didn't think so. :)

Only wimps need a healing cleric in their group. IMO.

However, Fighters, Barbs, and Wizards can only self heal with very expensive potions, so I'll give them a break.

Everyone else should be able to use wands IMO, (Sorcs with high Cha should have a decent UMD) and CLW wands are cheap.

Last night I was in a group with a Pallie and a rogue that constantly asked their cleric to cure mummy rot, or cast lesser restore on them.................no excuse people. They should have had the resources to take care of that themselves.

I agree, playing a healing/buffing only cleric is boring! That's why I don't play mine much anymore.

I do have a Battle cleric I play a lot that I do like......but it's so difficult to find a group that doesn't need me to nursemaid them through a dungeon (really sad, since I don't usually join groups that do not have another cleric in the group) that it really takes the fun out of me playing her either.
Got a comment the other day, that I heal real good for a battle cleric. :) We had another cleric....lower lvl than me, but since the only way we were going to get through the dungeon was if I helped heal, well....I did what I had to do.

There is a trend for more self sufficient players recently.....especially the higher lvl ones. Those are fun groups to be in for any class....especially for a Cleric.
You actually get to fight, when the rest of the group is competent enough to take care of themselves. (also if they use gooc CC but that is another topic)

The most fun I have ever had with my cleric is is groups that never need healing......I just wish I could know ahead of time, so I could switch spells around to a more offensive mode.

THAT is what the first Shrine is for!!!! Ever wonder why it takes so long to move sometimes after resting for some clerics....surprise, we are changing the spells to fit the new quest paradigm of the group we are in... Of course now at 16 th level, I don't have to do that too much since we have so many dang spell slots anyway. (Running out of hot bars....grrrr.)
