pay homage here to the man who is our inspiration.
He died aged 69. He said he had an inoperable abdominal aortic aneurysm.

GameSpy sits down with the father of Dungeons & Dragons to discuss the creation of the game and his long gaming career.
By Allen Rausch | Aug. 16, 2004
GameSpy: Last question. I hope this doesn't sound morbid, but what would you like to have written on your tombstone? How do you want the world to remember you?
Gygax: I was gonna say, "Better here than Philadelphia," but I think somebody already did that. [Laughs] I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else.

....for inspiring countless minds to imagine and think, and most of all to have fun doing it. A shrine or monument should be erected in Stormreach for him!

He had a hugely positive influence on my life through his creation, and I am deeply saddened by his death; here's to you Gygax, thank you for all the wonderful times.
