Yeah, flame me if you want or agree. I think this live event is **** if they are going to call it a all day live event at least have stuff going on. I like how they expect everyone to be able to play during the afternoon so they don't have anything going on all morning, or how about people that are over seas. I also understand that there are rumors that there are already things going however most of us havn't seen squat and if this is the event it suck worse than I am thinking right now.

need to increase spawn rate. people are on. give us the devils 'mon!
also don't like that my bard is so gimped for this live event. no mind fog. no dancing ball. no hypnotic pattern. devils are one of the more fun enemy of bards but not when you take away all our decent choices. sigh

the problem is not the event itself which the main part is supposed to happen later today, its the fact that since Turbine thinks telling us when will spoil the surprise. The problem with that is that nobody wants to miss it so we stand around waiting and waiting for something to happen, and we invariably lose patience and desire. This playing out of the story pleases the RP folks to no end but everyone else just stands around hoping it will happen soon

Umm I think it's supposed to be a gradual build up.. not all happening all at once on the first day of an anniversary week.

I like how everyone assumes standing around all day means you are role playing or that everything shouldn't happen at once or that this is build up, build up implies something has started happening, NOTHING HAS, don't gimme all your BS excuses. I don't expect it to all be going on at once I just want something to be going on, to me this is just another day.

Just another day... except people won't join your LFM because they are too busy "waiting" in the marketplace :(
5 instances of marketplace, less than 5 people in there have seen a portal.

the wife and i saw a portal early this morning, and killed a whopping 4 mobs that did not attack until provoked. the crappy part is that we work the night shift and we'll have to go to bed before anything happens. if i knew ahead of time when it would be, i could catch a nap, or at least know that i would miss it due to being at work, but waiting around 12 hours after the post telling us what we already knew is getting a little frustrating. this isn't the "world changing" event i'd hoped it would be.
somebody find out if kate paiz has an account on the forums and PM her till she responds

A serious problem is mom agro, so I´ve heard. Im not blaming anybody, but since today is a full day event, and youre standing around the Market, waiting for something fun, suddenly, Mom tells you its enough play time, and when the action starts, youre either doing homework, chores, etc. Even sometimes moms put timed play time. For example, I can choose to play all evening or all morning, but not both. Also some of my friends have 3 hours to play a day, so what are they gonna do? They cant stand around all day staring at the screen waiting for something to happen...
So it all comes to this,
For next events, give us a specific hour for the event finale, so we can plan our day and make it in time to have fun in the event.
 Do we get rewards from killing devils?

Yeah 12 hours of waiting and a big fat 0 sightings has me bored to tears. All talk no substance. Being half a world away means I can not hang around forever too.

1) If there's so many folks on, you can trust something will show up in the forums when it happens (I'm at work/can't play)
1b) The event today will happen in the evening, (likely around 6est, maybe as late as 9est) anything before then is just preperation.
1c) There's the event today, and more this week. I don't think the goal is to make sure everyone is in the marketplace. More, it's to prepare folks for things happening, and giving you a chance at extras.
2) Does it complete a quest objective? That's the only time you get a reward.

i was on for several hours, logged in while playing with my kids. the portal opens up. someone announces. everyone runs to the area and buffs and preps and waits. and waits. and rebuffs. and waits. then my kid says she's got to go potty so hey, takes precedence. i stayed logged in, ran her to the bathroom, got her situated, and ran back to check if anything had happened. in those 2 minutes, 4 creatures appeared... 2 devils, 2 oberrons. i only know this because everyone was standing around saying "are more coming?" "was that all?". portal went away several minutes later.
i get that it's supposed to be gradual but this might be a bit too gradual. i think my kid actually being successful in her potty training for those 2 minutes was more exciting.

i was on for about 2 hours, enjoyed the time in the market place b.s'ing with guildies while we waited to see if anything happened.
8 market place instances, several portals were seen. I personally banished 3 or 4 devils. Everyone thinks that was it, and I seriously doubt it. Im laughing because most of you are getting you're panties in a twist over something that is probably just a "stress test" to see how things go with hundreds of casters in one instance raining down fire and brim stone.

Ummm yeah except the fact that you can't use any real spells that last and would cause lag.

I honestly could care less if it is fun, but standing around all day because it needs to be mysterious is not fun any more

cite sources on times, you can't because all Tolero said was evening for biggest stuff, but that things would happen all day

for the reading impaired ..
Tolero mentioned that the 'main event' would start in the evening, when most folks are on.
So if you are passing by during the day and happen to see something spawn, I would consider that a bonus. For my part, I am certainly not going to stand around waiting for something to happen during the day and the inevitable disappointment that will bring.

Tolero actually said the following
Well the festival will be going on all day on the 2nd, but the evening is typically when most patrons find time to stop by. It might be the best time around then since there will be so many more party goers then. But even if you miss the start of the party, the rest of the week will still have festive activities
Edit: Oh and uh, vast & mysterious >> *runs away*
Basically the part about stuff happening all day well it was a stretch
edit: nowhere does it say that the party will start in the evening it just says the more stuff will be happening in the "evening"

The main event was a party, which was canceled because the Master of Ceremonies disappeared (traitor? Killed? A Rashaska in disguise?) and to replace that, a new NPC appeared in the marketplace. The appearance of the NPC was the 'event' and the spawns are the all-day thing.
Please read my 1b, because 1a was directed at the guy asking for a time (which turbine ended up giving people)

You did for me; big stuff - evening (to me is about 6 to 9, was later than I really wanted), things happening all day (spawns, often, maybe every 2 hours from these forums)

Now I love D&D, the D20 system even more, fact is I dont even buy D&D brand d20 books anymore because I find alot of the material put out by smaller game publishers to be alot more orginal and in tune with my thinking as both player and DM. It was in fact in the last table top group I had before several of them moved away that I got turned on to MMOs.
City of Heroes was that first fateful MMO, and it captured my interest immediatly for a myriad of reasons. The character creator was so diverse that in the first months few characters resembled each other, and as time went on and thier population grew so to did the options for how to make your hero look. Then there where the power sets, even from the lowest levels you could gain access to being able to run faster, jump higher, and hover up high if quite slow. By the time you played for maybe 6 hours you would be high enough lvl to hve super speed, super jump, and most loved by me the Flying.
Now that right there was something I am still surprised Turbine hasnt gotten a clue and implemented their own flight and have even nerfed a few things in the game where being strong, having a high jump skill, and topped off with a +30 jump spell where able to do some pretty amazing and useful things.I am sure many of us remember how in VON5 those few could leap to a certain ladder bypassing the clever(in the 12s mind alone) lever steam cannon, but no longer.
They nerfed invisibility to the point of madness, and even the stealth skills are a joke when hill giants often notice me witha 25 in each ( I mean come on in PnP they havea spot of 4 for a reason, use some bloody logic). Mean while they keep favoring the crappy MMO cut and dry behavior of saying you have to tank, heal, buff in all the big fights, taht finding tricky ways to fight the dragon with clever use of bow and hiding spots was an exploit. They then heavy handedly make all Red names immune to many effects instead of looking at the real problems, that they themselves created by altering core concepts like being able to cast only X amount of a given spell a day, letting casters run wild with thier magic and never relying upon weapons in the least, largely due to many monsters hitting far to hard far to often being made to challenge the ridiculously high hp high ac tanks.
Now comes a event, supposedly meant to please both grinders and Rpers. Now I enjoy some light rp in mmo, I dont try to make up my own quest inside others or wierdness like taht, but I like to type with an imaginary elf accent if the group seems like they are rp oriented. This invasion was so poorly thought out, and the rp aspect is not even worthy of being called such(hopping up a mario style platform challenge to hear one lame as statement and get some crappy buffs is not rp). Once more I will bring up CoH as my comparison, thier invasion events, come often, have plenty of foes to fight, and feel quite rewarding since you can gain experiance for the kills, and work towards a badge you can then display as a title showing your effort.
But what does turbine do? Apparently they are either so poorly funded( again thier own fault for not making the game appeal to a larger audience) or they just never actually played on the table top, that they create an event largely designed it seems to ruin my day by keeping people from wanting to group up for quest and instead stand around in the market waiting for a rare to see mob who gives you nothing for victory and still the usual cost for dieing.
So Turbine I say to you, if you want my money, swallow your pride, get a clue, and learn from other fun MMO like CoH which even after years I go back to for a few months now and then jsut to fly around and blast other flying foes, or zoom in and cut them up and knock them from my skies. Yes you want a group based game, and you claim to want it to be fair and balanced, but its far from fun for some of us on days when all groups want is super elite builds, they want pallies and barbs and fighters not stealthy ranger rogues for example. Learn from others see how they encourage both group and solo playing side by side, and do not encourage or use 50 ac and 700 hp as your standard for what monsters need to match all the time, as it only means we who think that being highly dextrous should be enough on its own( it always was in PnP usually was the so called tank who got offed first by the DM for being a game breaking meta build).
Just two coppers from a recent returnee who already cancelled his account again, because I love D&D and this still is barely worthy of the name. I might do another month because I have met a few nice folks and enjoy interacting with them and talking D&D but taht will only keep me entertained for so long.

Goodbye. Not just to you, but the entire forums for awhile. I'll come back after the event, but right now, everyone is blaming the people at Turbine for the actions of other players. Myself? I don't want another WoW. Do I play WoW? Not yet, but there are good reasons for me to pick it up. I'm already having fun here, I don't need it to become WoW. (or CoH, or anything else)
Elite builds? Do you know what kind of groups I attract when I go to quest? Those stealthy rangers/rogues. I never ask for a healer/tank/dps. Know why? Because I don't need those. If you want healing, do it yourself. Want to take hits? Find a way to do it, or avoid them. Want to deal damage? Anyone can use a returning dart. Characters function better in a group, but I never care about what other people think I 'need'.
Goodbye for now.
