Null Cleric Question

Would it not be better to go 14 cleric 2 Pally?

You'll get level 9 spells, ( at 18 / 2 ), and have a whole lot more saves... Giving you more versitility, where as with a pure cleric you gain 2 CL and 2 Spells per day? Dont see why people dont utilize this combination, short of the cap being 16 now and if your 14/2 you only get 7th level spells.

Until recently, Cleric12/X2 wouldn't give you the crucial offensive spell Destruction, so it was much less popular. With a level cap beyond 14 and no good level 8 spells on the horizon, 2 levels of paladin just became more viable.

Personally I wouldn't do it, but I think it would work fine. Cleric saves aren't bad to begin with, though. Reflex is their weak save, and its the least important. An occasional failed reflex basically just means a quick Heal on yourself... no big deal.
