This post may belong in the Guild Match Up, but since I play on Thelanis, I thought perhaps here instead.

It was suggested to me to post a bit about myself and play style in my guild search, so here goes:

Myself:

I'm brand new to MMO's -- this is my first ever. Before this I was a console gamer, and only a casual one. I had the urge to try out an MMO, and since I have fond memories of D&D from years back when I was a kid, (2nd edition rules back then) I thought this was a perfect MMO to jump into. I played Neverwinter Nights a lot but never online with anyone. I due owe that game a rekindling of my interest in D&D, though. The last time I actually played D&D pen & paper was like 1982 or so. It was a module called Castle Ravenloft. Did I just date myself? Ah well. Does anyone even remember that module??

My play style:

Well, in the past I usually pick magic wielding classes -- Wizard almost always. To start out with DDO, I made a Rogue and have found the class to be very fun -- although I do have plans to get my Wizard moving along eventually. I've mostly been doing things solo to get a feel for the game, and because it is what I'm used to. I've grouped three times in about three weeks of play in total. If there is a guild that doesn't mind teaching a Newbie the ropes, then that one is for me. I tend to get left behind often. I'm not sure if that is simply people knowing where everything is and blasting through it or me. I thought the Rogue's job was to creep forward and check for traps and secret doors first, and then when a big baddie jumps out, in go the tanks. Right?

My grouping so far has been, "Hey! Where did Nalinor go?"

"I see him. I'll go back and get him."

So I'll need to be brought up to speed and find a group that is willing to go a bit slower.

I'd prefer a mature and very laid back guild. Obviously I'm not a power gamer or that strict with expectations on the quests. I just want to maximize the fun. I've never roll played before, but I'm not against giving it a try. I am a bit out of the loop with the Eberron mythos, though. I've studied it a little bit lately to try and catch up. That reminds me...where are Druids!!??

Anyway,

I'm in the EST time zone and usually play starting between 7-9PM and shut things down by midnight. On the weekends I try to go longer if real life allows.

My main toon thus far is a Human Rogue 3 -- Nalinor (Nick) Shadowson.

I have a Human Wizard 1 -- Onyxanian Azure.

I have a Human Fighter 1 -- Gondaron One-Eye.

I've been enjoying playing my Rogue because I want to find and see everything in this game! I love secret doors and being able to spot them and get them open!!! Sneak attack is cool, too. Love that wee bit of extra damage -- at least it's wee at level 3. haha

I think that's it. If there is a guild willing to help out a Newbie (Is that the correct usage?) then let me know.

And thanks ahead of time.

Snip

P.S. What up with Oozes!!? I tried this quest in the Market where you have to save someone's Neice and just got spanked! All my cool stuff got trashed! What do I have to do with those things, have my Toon stand there in his underwear with a wooden club in each hand an pray!? Jeez.

Thanks all....

Hey, No worries!:D

I understand.
I am an Old P&P player from way back...
(1st ed. in fact)

Feel free to look up any of the characters in my sig.

I have fledgling guild on Thelanis,
and 3 out of 4 of the players are new.

It is "The dwarves of Thunder Rift."

It is not a Dwarves only guild (as the name Would suggest)
even though currently all the characters ARE Dwarves...

Our motto:
I have carried down our motto from the first guild I was in...

(which was the League of P&P)...

and it is as follows:

"Take it slow...use your head ...the party comes first.... and have fun!"

I am currently helping to train up both of my sons and my wife...

YES! I have corrupted them all!!!

Muuuwahahaha!!!

http://home.att.net/~cdbd3rd/evilgrin.gif

I am usually on EST 8:00 pm to about 10 to 11 PM.

I am only on a few nights a week
but I would be glad to help in any way I can.

So as I said in the begining, feel free to look me up.

and Welcome to DDO! :D

You need a muckbane, muckdoom, or everbright to hit them without the weapon taking damage. Same is true for rust monsters but you can also use wodden weapons on them.

You need blueshine armor to prevent them from burning up your armor. Same is true for rust monsters

Also,
what you an do until you can aquire them,
is keep on hand a set of Studded leather armor,
and Several normal 1 CP clubs.

at a cost of 1Cp ea. when the club eventually breaks you can Either
reapir it fo a Whopping 1 Cp!
Or just scrap it!
Which will also only cost you 1Cp.

It is a cost effective way to Fight Slimes, Oozes and Rust monsters
without breaking the bank until you can get
Muckbane/MuckDoom, Everbright weapons
and or Blushine armor.
on a side note,
I would also invest in a wooden Shield.

Thanks Bekki! I'll look for you in-game. If not tonight, then soon.

Also thanks Malnon for the info on Oozes, Bekki, too.

I went into that area to find this guy's Neice and got hit with eight or more of those at once -- and it was listed as Short on the quest. I know why now. Haha. But when all my stuff started going poof and sizzle - to say I was yelling explatives is an understatement. There goes my +1 Longsword, my Cloak of Resistance +1, my Goggles of Disabling, ect. Man! I don't like those things. Muckbane weapons, huh? Yeah, that and some strawberries and smash me up some jello soon. Look out!

Snip the Shadow.

Thanks....

well i still say you should put a char in with the Umber Hulks

but if its RP your after check out the link in my sig

edit: its hard enough learning a MMO and staying in char at first though, as all you want to do is go whack things as quickly as possible. Not saying that is wrong though :D

Feel free to browse the wares at The Exploration Society (http://tes.rbcb.net). We have several folks that have just recently joined up, and we also have a very large set of experienced players that can help you with pointers.

Also, the Thelanis Guild List (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=116330) has lots of great information on just about every guild in Thelanis.

Would this be the Friars Niece?
Friar Renaud I believe...

I strongly suggest you run Durk's Got a Secret (It's a Harbor quest, you get it in The Leaky Dinghy) until you get a Muckbane. Those things are worth their weight in gold. It drops in a specific chest as random loot (so no guarantees), and the chest only spawns when Muck (a named Ooze, go figure. :P) spawns, so it can be a little tricky to get. Additionally (from what I've heard), you've got to do things in a certain sequence to help ensure he spawns (can't say if it's actually true, but better safe than sorry). So it's typically a good idea to run it with someone who knows what they're doing in there.

I'd be happy to run you through the quest (and any other Harbor quests) if you'd like, just send me a /tell on Vaedrik. I'm on most week nights at about 8PM PST. :)

In theory, yes, in practice, no. MMOs are all about repetition, which means even those "traps and secret doors" aren't much of a surprise. Most people, Rogue or not, know where everything in the quest is. Additionally, most people are focused on maximizing gain for their time, which typically means rushing through quests.

Thanks a bunch for the links so far to dagazULF and Ardanroth! Also an even earlier thank you to sigtrent and the offer of the Umber Hulks.

Keep em coming.

To Bekki:

That is the quest I was on last weekend. I basically crept on in, opened up a side door and got spanked by at least eight Oozes at once. A big 'ole eleven to fourteen seconds after opening that door I hear *Clank* *Clunk* *POOF* and get a little sentence saying either permanent damage or broken. Man!

To AldosAC:

Durks got a secret, huh? Cool. That's on my list next time I go online to play. And I'll look for you all in-game.

Thanks again! People here rock!

Snip the Shadow.

Oh! About my sig. name:

Snip the Shadow is an old retired character from the past - another Rogue actually, and another game and gaming world (*coughs* Forgotten Realms *coughs again*). His son is Nalinor. I'll do up a bio sometime on this....

See you in Stormreach....

I have kept an eye out for you.
but I was not sure of you char. names.
of Late I have been on with
my low levels as I have been
helping my wife get used to the game.

So If you see any of My chars. on give a shout.

Bekki- Fighter/ Ranger 10/2
Peniafrancia- Rogue/ Ranger 5/2
Nightsable-Rogue/Ranger 2/2
Loderick- Cleric 5
Grampybone- Fighter 3
Sildehwen- Cleric 3
Deryck- Fighter 4
Maiarlee- Paladin 5

A note on Slimes and Oozes:

Muckbane truly is worth it's weight in gold!
as is it's big brother MuckDOOM! :D
*apply bad Monty Python french accent* "I have one, it is quite nice!" :D

As is any Blushine armor or everbright weapons!

Blushine armor (as stated earlier in this post. /Nod)

is immune to wear from both Slimes and Oozes, AND rust Monsters!

Everbright Weapons have the same properties.

if you do not have one then there are several schools of thought.

use a 1Cp club, Cheap and easy to replace...
use a Maul 1D10 damage and kills them faster!

Keep studded leather on hand to don as it avoids damage.
and can also be replaced for relatively low cost.

As for The archbishop Dryden Quests:

Take a paladin or Cleric.
with the new spell "Seek Eternal Rest (+4 to turn Level)
It will make your life alot easier!

have fun and See you in Stormreach.

To Bekki:

My longest game night last weekend was Friday night. I saw that your character Bekki was on, but under the 'Who' list it stated you were on a quest already. Later I checked for you again, but your name was gone. Ah well. Try, try again.

Thursday night I went and did Shan-to-kor (sp?) with a group of five others. One of the members of that group just up and gave me a Club of Muckbane. Wow! Awesome! So I'm aching to make some jello out of Oozes. As for the armor and weapons you speak of, I'll keep an eye out for things like that for sure. I'm just tickled to death with my new Puzzle Cap that I got for finishing that quest last Thursday.

Oh! My characters are:

Nalinor Shadowson - Human Rogue 3 (my main so far, I guess)

Gandaron One Eye - Human Fighter 2

Onyxarian Azure - Human Wizard 1

I'll keep my eyes out for ya! All five of 'em. (poor Gandaron)
