This build is from Sigtrent's build request thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=117232)

Build Name: The Immutable Force
Author: Sigfried Trent
Requester: Xealot7
Last Updated: 04/23/2010

Key Words [Warforged,Tempest,Ranger,TWF,DPS]

Objectives
The request was for a Tempest Warforged with tumble skill wielding Kopesh.

Design
Most of the build is pretty straight forward, although in order to squeeze in all the feats and take a body feat I took two fighter levels at 4 and 5 (an unusual place for them). Mithral body is a bit odd, but its good AC on a build that is in light armor and not doing much with its dex. It would be challenging for a ranger to get much more DPS than this thing can crank out.

Play
This is a pretty straight forward build, buff up and go to town. Ranged attacks are a decent option as with any ranger. Unlike some, self healing is possible but very limited. Chances are good you will need some clerical attention at the higher levels.

Variations
You can drop the body feat to make room for something else. The original requester modified the original design to include 13 int to do combat expertise and whirlwind attack and for that you would need to drop mitrhal body and toughness.

Why put points into Concentration? Isn't that for only making sure a spell shoots off if you are hit and take damage? Rangers don't really have any spells that you'll be casting during melee.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with conentration or balance. Balance is probably better but it's cross class. I figured with rams might you might be casting a bit more in combat so it may have some use and spell points are limited so it would be annoying to lose a spell because someone shot you with an arrow or you had burning blood on you etc... Overall the skills just arn't a big part of this build.

WF are great although there isn't a whole lot to recomend them as rangers. If I did this build with any race, I'd likely choose human for the extra feat and Str enhancement. WF does offer a nice armor profile for a lower dex build and the DR is kind of interesting.

WF are actualy quite good for barbarians, tactics fighters, and any arcane caster. But all opinions are appreciated :)

As a ranger I can tell you that concentration is almost NEVER needed. Almost all ranger spells cast are buffs which are only renewed when you first enter and 12-14 minutes later and its easy to ask people to stop for their buff. Most everyone stops the second I say wait for barkskin. Unless you plan on casting healing spells a lot while in the middle of combat the skill points are probably better spent on heal or repair. As a WF you are likely to regain few HPs while at shrines unless you take care of it yourself. Most wizards and sorcerers are not likely to spend many points on repair and if they do they are not likely to stay around the shrine while you are resting.

Did you remember that Ram's Might gives +2 to str AND +2 to dmg? When I cast it my bow dmg goes up by +3 and for some odd reason my sword dmg goes up by +4. The result is that you get +3dmg most of the time from Ram's +1 from the increase to STR and +2 from the spells effect.

This build is working great Sigtrent... He's level 5 atm and I'm loving it. I did however make one minor change... my starting stats were 17 13 15 13 11 6 so that I could incorporate the Combat Expertise pre-req for my Whirlwind attack. To make up for the two additional feats, I'll drop STWF since it isn't in game yet and I'll wait until lvl 18 comes out to pick this up. I'll also be dropping Power attack to make room, all though I truly love that feat. Thanks for the build again Sig. I'll keep you updated as lvl's progress.

Concentration is decent on rangers but I wouldn't max it. The buffs that one would be putting on during combat are fire and acid resists incase of debuff and then burning blood or acid effects.

I'll check it out in game and update accordingly. I haven't played my ranger since the patch (he's only level 7) so I was just going by the description I had. Thanks for the heads up!

That's what I was thinking. I honestly havn't played a ranger at higher levels. I know on my bard I find concntration very usefull and I have seen rangers with burning blood who couldn't resist themselves due to the damage ticks interupting their casting. But it isn't a lot of damage so a lower concnetration skill might still work.

I'm curious which skills rangers here find most usefull. (excluding ones for classes not included here like UMD etc..)

Neat! It's allways flattering to hear someone actualy makes the builds. Sounds like a good adjustment on the build stats and feat plan. I'm glad its working well and thanks for letting me know about it. :)

I watch your thread constintly for ideas and am always impressed with your builds. I have been considering the ranger/fighter build combo for a bit now but was leaning more towards the dwarf then the WF.I have yet to unlock the 32 pt build so had to adjust stats a bit. Starting with your template I decided to try my hand at planning it out and being that im truely a novice at this I was hoping you could take a fast look and bounce any ideas back at me. I used most of what you did but tried to trade out the WF enhancements for some that would be more benificial to the dwarf, i.e axes, and beefed up the favored enemy bonuses. I don't know end game items since I have yet to progress past lvl 6 on a character so I didnt add gear bonuses and kept it simple. I am mostly concerned if the lack of toughness/hp will kill my plan in the end. I hope you don't take offense to the offshot build post, just wasnt sure of an easier way to spin off on your idea to you.

Thanks Suavedevil :)

I think you hit the conversion square on the head there. Yours is 28pts so the stats are a bit lower obviously but I think you made good choices where to put things. The feats work much better for the dwarven version, especialy in reguards to when you can take what so the character develops faster and more evenly. Its hard to make a build better than a dwarf for most classes.

Nice enhancement picks as well. Spell defense is just amazing in ddo. I would probalby take toughness instead of power critical as in generaly it has more to offer you and you can then take the enhancement line as well.

Anyhow, well done and thanks for sharing. Its nice to have another build in the thread for folks to consider who want to go a slightly different path with the same idea.

I'm curious which skills rangers here find most usefull. (excluding ones for classes not included here like UMD etc..)

My order of preference:

Spot (I like seeing enemies)
Jump (With the spell, this lets you get to a lot ofgreat archer perches)
Hide
Move Silently (I believe in Stealth)
Tumble (even cross-classed, you get good Dexterity and the Tumble spell if you want and reduciton of falling damage is still nice)
Balance (even cross-classed, it has value with decent Ranger Dexterity)
Haggle ( i like making more cash and I think this has more value than UMD on a pure Ranger)
