It's Shinny New Ranger time, and I have been trying to come up with a build... And I think I have one. Here are my goals:

1) TWF using Dwarven Axes, Range only in special circumstances
2) Be able to be the only Rogue in any dungeon at any level (at least as much as a pure rogue could)
3) Be soloable - i.e. Self Sufficient, even if I'm not running Solo
4) Be able to use any scroll with in reason (i.e. Raise Dead, Greater Hero, Restore, etc...), and expecting some failure.

I am counting on most items I already have, with a few exceptions such as the Kundarak Delving Suit, and a +2 1750 tome, and hopping to pull/trade another +2 tome (now that they are dropping I think it's reasonable). All stats should be getting a +5/+6 Stat item (with some trading out of items of course). So here's what I got, let me know what you think.

I redid my Round Mound build into a Tempest build, currently at 15.

You know what? It's no longer a truly solo build at the high end. Your AC just isn't good enough, except on rare occasions (usually vs. Giants).

But the offensive output can be very nice.

This isnt an elite level Trapsmith build by a long shot.....

Its a good buuild... Can probobly do amny traps... But Reflex/Trap Save, Disable device, Search, and Spot are All low

It appears to have max ranks in search and disable, at least, which (along with gear) is all that's really required to do every elite trap in the game other than cabal.

Spot should also be fine so long as wild instincts is kept up -- it appears to be just a couple ranks short of the maximum.

The only respect in which this build is worse than a pure rogue is trap saves. Everything else pertaining to traps is comparable.

I play a similar build, with only 1 rogue level, who has disabled very nearly every trap in the game that isn't in cabal. Including the new content, on elite, when he was still level 14. He has no feats or enhancements into rogue skills, and only +13 items. So yeah, this is absolutely an elite level trapsmith.

Can you post it?

I based my first toon on it and am thinking of taking CE out of the build.

Is there a solo melee build on the high end anymore? I just don't see how that is possible anymore. Casters can solo at high levels but a melee build with no reall crowd control? I think it would be pretty tough to pull off. Yeah if you are willing to take days (kite things around) or spend insane amounts of plat on wands/scrolls etc...but in general it is not easy at all to do.

A couple small points:

- If you're waiting until level 14 to pick up the Tempest enhancement why not move Improved Crit: Slashing to level 9? You'll get much better damage output. Then take mobility @12 and spring attack/tempest @15.

- Hold off on the armor mastery. With a 16 base DEX and no medium/heavy armor proficency you won't have much need for it until much later in your career.

- If the AC route doesn't work for you then try the DPS route. Power Attack + Axe Mastery + Favored Enemy + Ram's Might = best case +22 pre crit damage with your favored weapon/favored enemy.

- Rogue haste boost + Tempest + Haste = fun!
