Greets all!

I've been working on a rogue/pally build (basically Rogue*/Pal3) and recently started thinking it might be nice to splash ranger into the mix to get TWF... then the more I thought about it I realized I can probably go ranger from here on in (already 6th, 7th would be my first ranger level) and still keep my trap/lock/spot skills maxed out along the way.

Just curious on the thoughts of folks far more vet than I am at this stuff.... I've been away from the game since about 2 months after launch so have NO idea if this is a viable build. I guess now that level cap is 16 that would make it a 10ran/3rog/3pal build and 14/3/3 once the cap raises to 20?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Mind you I'm really just in the game to have fun. I'm not a min/maxer by any stretch but really wanted to know if this is a viable build before I commit to it.

Thanks!

Edit: PS my current stats:

10str (12 w/items)
18dex (22 w/actions/items: 1 elf 1 rog 2 item)
14wis (15 w/+1 item)
12int (14 w/+2 item)
12cha

I do not have, nor do I have the money for tomes. So please don't recommend them. My highest toon is this one, at level 6 so no chance of looting them either. As I said I only played a couple months very casually when the game first came out and cancelled and only came back about 10 days ago now.

3 Feats I have chosen so far are:
1st: Dodge
3rd: Nimble Fingers
6th: Weapon Finesse

With my int I think I can safely keep search/spot/disable/unlock and possibly UMD maxed but I'm not a guru at this stuff. The first 4 are absolutely vital though as I intend to have max rogue ability to be a trapmonkey. It'd be nice to be able to level sneak/hide as well but as I said, that'd be a tertiary goal.

As I said, I'm not sure if this is a viable build or not so thought I'd ask before heading down this path and ruining my character. I *know* the rog/pally build is viable and works so far that's for sure. :)

This is what I am calling the Ranger/Paladin/Rogue build (keeping in theme with the Batman Build). Now even if you don't use ranged exclusively, it has it's uses. I know others have this build so there are more than one person that can speak to the effectiveness of the build.

My character Stee, a drow, is currently a 11 Ranger/3 Paladin/1 Rogue. Before Mod 6 he could find and disable all traps up to elite (minus the one in Cabal). After the update he can't find all the elite traps but still seems to find normal and elite.

I think his starting stats were:

Str 14
Dex 16
Con 10
Int 15
Wis 10
Cha 15

His current stats (with various +5 and +6 items) are:

Str 24
Dex 30
Con 14
Int 16
Wis 16
Cha 24

At level 16, I will take another ranger level making him a 12 Ranger/3 Paladin/1 Rogue.

I believe I used this progression:

1st Rogue
2nd Ranger
3rd Ranger
4th Paladin
5th Ranger
6th Ranger
7th Paladin
8th Ranger
9th Ranger
10th Ranger
11th Ranger
12th Ranger
13th Ranger
14th Ranger
15th Paladin

I might take another level of Rogue at level 20 unless Ranger 16 gives me something pretty awesome (which it doesn't look like so far).

Feats are :

Weapon Finese
SF: UMD
Toughness
IC:Piercing
Dodge
and thing else I can't remember offhand.

At 240 hp, he's not a main tank in GH, Necro or Vale but he can do pretty well. Currently his buffed AC is a 52 (will be 53 at next level because of +5 Barkskin). I will say that I've had to work pretty hard for that AC and am highly disappointed that it mean zippy in most quests.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try to answer them. I think Jaysen has a character, Tawnie, that uses a similar build so you might ask him as well.

Thanks,

Yeah I've seen builds like that posted but what I'm trying to find out is if a Ranger*/Pal3/Rog3 build is a useful/worthwhile way to go or not. Not really interested in re-rolling at this point. If it's not a viable build I'll just stick with my original plan to be rog*/Pal3 :)

Well I posted what I did to show you what is available. Yeah it's not Ranger X/Pally 3/Rog 3 but you shouldn't be building for level cap, you should be building for level 20. With that in mind, you can get to Ranger 10/Pally 3/Rogue 3 now and be in good shape for the next level cap increase. Of course with the number of skill points that rangers get each level, you might not need to go Rogue 3 (EDIT: just noticed that you are already rogue 3).

That was my thinking as well... Once we have level 20 it'll be Ranger 14/Rog3/Pal3 which seems to me to be a very solid build. I'm seriously considering it just didn't know if anyone who's really good at builds had run the numbers and seen if it's viable for high end trap content or not. I have used rogue feats whenever possible as well.
