View Full Version : Itching to get the Mod 6 content first? Patch your game now!

DDO players have often asked if there's a way to pre-patch while the servers are down, or download a patch on a different computer and then transfer it to the one their game is installed on via USB drive, CDR, etc.
We're pleased to offer a download-able patch for Mod 6! This patch will update clients from Mod 5 to Mod 6. New players will still need to go through the normal patching process - this patch will only work for those whose clients are current as of today. It will not work for Risia.
The download-able patch means you can download it and patch your client before the update goes live on the servers, saving you time when they come back up. It also means you can download the patch on a computer that you don't have DDO installed on (i.e. your work computer), transfer the patch to a disk or device, and then run it on the computer with a DDO client to update it.
If you've pre-patched already, you'll save yourself quite a bit of time on patch day!
Download the installer by clicking here (http://download.level3.turbine.com/largecontent/ddo/mod6/updater/live/DDO-US-Live-Updater-Mod5-to-Mod6.exe). Running it will download the Mod 6 files and update your client. When the servers open with Mod 6, your client will detect and apply the appropriate files.
Feel free to distribute this update to others as well!
IMPORTANT NOTES: This file will ONLY patch the North America/AU/NZ version of the DDO client. If you try to apply it to the EU version, you'll get an error message.

Very cool. I'm hoping this becomes a regular thing for future updates.

So, simply put, downloading now, saves time later?
As in, when you open mod 6, we will have no more update time?

It should save lots of time, depending on your connection speed :)
Heres the simple process: (And how long it took me...no guarantees on your speed.)
1. Download program (aprx 20 seconds)
2. Install patch (aprx 1:30 seconds)
3. CLOSE PROGRAM (Do not try to launch game from program if prompted.)
4. Start game normally from icon.
5. Continue playing Mod 5 content.
Tomorrow when the servers are live, you'll have a shorter time where the launcher applies the patch that you installed, and you'll be in the game!

Thank you Turbine
Second word. This totally rocks!
Without having to slog through a saturated server on update day, download/install only took about 5 minutes.
Most excellent. http://home.att.net/~cdbd3rd/smile.gif
edit: 22 seconds?!? LOL! I would hope, being within walking distance of the servers. ;)

Yes, you can continue to play after you install this.
The patch wont actually be applied until you try to login after the downtime tomorrow.

Not often I post on the forums let alone to anything that is posted by Turbine itself. However I have to say this is **** cool of your guys to do this and hope it is a regular thing you plan to do from now on.

Does this just patch the standard client? Meaning if I have the high-res textures installed tomorrow will I have to download the high-res portion of the patch? Not that this won't help cut down the time, was just curious is all. Thanks.

How big is the update? I may want to do the DL at work and put on stick if it is reasonable.

Thanks for providing this! D/Ling the updates seperate from the launcher is a great idea and time saver given the servers are probably full up on patch day. D/L speed is great right now for me ~800KB/sec... Get it while it's good!

Don't get me wrong here, I'm glad this is happening, but... a 165 mb file is hardly 20 seconds for most people.

Thanks Turbine, this is an awesome feature.
I dont want to seem liek a spoiled child and ask for something when we were already given one present, but are their any plans to offer all the previous mods as one download? I mean from launch to Mod 5 so that we can burn both fiels to a disk for when we do installs/reinstalls. It would be great to have all of the mods in one or two pre downloaded files.
Please, pretty please! :D

Thanks for this Q - the download is running pretty fast too! (not 22 seconds though)
Might I suggest that in future Turbine release these patches as both a direct download and also a torrent (http://www.bittorrent.com/). This would reduce the load on the turbine servers especially if the patch is big.

It took me about half an hour to downlaod (while downloading 2 movies on my Download manager) then when i went to install, about 5 seconds... What?! Thats it? Are you sure? Apparently because i opened the installer AGAIN just to check to make sure it was the right program. **** I dont know who came up with this idea but you need to give him a vorpal weapon, then a medal AND then a vorpal medal (I wouldn't wear it though)

They said it wouldn't apply the patch till after the download tomorrow. So it hasn't fully installed yet.

I don't know if this will be available for previous modules, but I certainly hope so. While I'm sure I may be in the minority of people, I live in the back-end of Nowhere, USA, and even though my connection is technically DSL, it's certainly not on the fast end of it. Previous updates of modules have taken me anywhere from 4 to 14 hours, depending on server load, and content size. My connection is only 512kbs, that's 50K a sec at max throughput, and it takes forever to update my computer.
I can, on my tiny DSL line, download this in about an hour to an hour and a half, thus saving me hours of spending quality time with my family;). I can now, instead, zerg, complain, and tell rotten jokes to all my cronies within a reasonable time after the servers come online. Thanks again to the team, and know that I at least, certainly appreciate the extra time I can spend in a world where I can blow things up with relative impunity.

Yeah, but there is so many other things going in there, the ukelalee band, the dancing hippos, no one heard it, all alone in the corner.

well unfortunatly I had to wipe my computer yesterday.
So this morning I reinstalled DDO and now I have this installed....
When the servers come up, all I have to do is patch in Mods 4 and 5 (hopefully).....

Doesnt apear to work for me, i click the link, the download is instant and 159 kb. Then i go to run the program and an error pops up. Dont know if its only me having this problem, guess ill wait till later to download.
edit: looks like iv worked out how to get around it, maybe this will help somone else - All i did was right click then go to properties, copied the link and pasted it into my address bar. Hit enter and downloading no worries.
