I dl'd the trial of D&D Online to check it out, I currently play another Turbine game (LotRO) but just wanted to check out this one to see which I preferred, downloaded and installed the trial, started it up and allowed it to update, logged in and chose a server, get to character select screen and after 18 seconds the game freezes my whole computer, mouse, keyboard nothing works but the game music keeps right on playing, have yet to be able to even create a character, reinstalled the game no luck, ran the repair and no luck, tried resetting the resolution and no luck, my video card drivers are up to date as well as directx, I can't think of anything else to try, I even set the game file to run in XP SP2 compatibility, tried shutting down every other single program running including disabling my virus scanner and firewall and nothing, it's driving me nuts, submitted a help request to technical support but also wanted to post it here and maybe someone else possibly had or has the same issue and can help me resolve it, not sure how much of each is needed but I already exported the system specs and dxdiag to a file and have them on hand if they need to be posted

sounds like you are overheating, not sure how machine stressing LOTR is but DDO is a beast

System Specs would be nice. I take it you are running Vista. What version?

tomorrow morning I'll pop the side and try running with a fan on it, not sure how much it will do, tower has two fans to remove heat on the shell plus the processor and vid card fan, took a look to make sure all were spinning and they are

current temps are (standard running without game):
GPU: 64
CPU#1 Core #2: 31
CPU#1 Core #1: 35
CPU: 27
Motherboard: 37

is there a way to externally configure the game to run windowed that way I can monitor the temps as the game starts up?

That system should be running fine. Low on RAM but not shouldn't be critically so.
Temps look fine, but let me know what happens with your fan experiment.

You have a wide screen? I noticed your display mode as [Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)]. I vaguely remember someone complaining months ago that DDO doesn't support widescreen modes. I will have a search on the help forums to see if I see this somewhere and whether this may be your problem.

I am not sure if there is an external setting for DDO to run in windowed mode. Might want to see if Vista allows you to run in windowed setting.

Can you explain the 'freezing' a little more clearly. How long have you left the computer in the frozen state? I have once had my system freeze on the load screen for a few minutes. Admittedly it was only once. If the music is still playing it could be a connection issue. (Probably not but hey)

If the music is still playing it could be a connection issue. (Probably not but hey)

turns out it was a connection issue, tried a few things this morning including unplugging my daughter fisher-price internet launchpad (yeah it actualy stopped games from working before) from the usb slot and not luck, figured that I'd look up the ports and do port forwarding, turns out LotRO uses same ports so they were already forwarded to properly, then went and opened UserPreferences.ini and changed the entry "UserSpecifiedPort=0" to "UserSpecifiedPort=9000" and it all works fine now, never had a connection issue actually lock the computer up to the point of having to hard boot, usually the game just says it lost connection and shuts down, so all is good now and I appreciate the help
