From the recent WARCRY review...

Now I remember in my old Pen & Paper games, we always had to walk through a dungeon carrying a torch. This was a feature the developers always wanted to implement, well they grinded out the code and the content to make this happen and on enter the dungeon "Rainbow in the Dark" one member needs to carry a torch (well a scepter that has a light spell on it). I was the lucky one to pick up the scepter and off I went. Our party was fighting a group of rust monsters and I ran forward to fight the next one near me. All of the sudden I hear "Get back here! I can't see". Yep, I had gone too far with the light and our Wizard was in the dark. It was funny as all get out.

If the rest of the party were dwarves and elves (are their other races in DDO?) then why couldn't they see with the torch gone?

Pretty worrying if the devs forgot the value of low light and darkvision....

Very good question.

I had a custom pair of headlights put on my warforged for this occasion. (Imagine Rollbar lights on a 4x4 truck) :P

time to adjust the gamma on my monitor again.... erm, yeah, torches, totally!

Well they never gave us torches (not that anyone other rp guilds would use them) and they even made some dungeons brighter. Like the Depths quests in Deneith.

So. yeah.

I have not done the quest..

But if the Quest is in a Dungeon... Low-light would be useless.. It needs some light source.. though it can be small

But your right on the Darkvision

As Hero points out all races in DDO have darkvision. You have to activate it first is all it is under the graphics settings and is called gamma. Crank that up and off you go.

Seriously though I like the torch idea but the appropriate races need to be given darkvision and I don't know how but someway to prevent gamma from overriding this needs to be found (I in fact think that you shouldn't be able to disable the death post effects either but I doubt that this would be a popular idea people are used to being able to get around awful easy when dead.)

EXACTLY what I was thinking - you just beat me to it

Infravision / Lowlight = Gamma Adjustment

the torch you carry in the quest would be more than enuff light to use low light vision for dwarves and elves........... Drow have true dark-vision
and should be able to see either way (actually doesnt light give them penalties)

dwarves have darkvision as well, not low light vision, and Drow only take the penalties in bright sunlight, though i could see how they would do away with that in Eberron since they aren't really subterrainian there.

I know that... he was talking about being able to see without the torch..

The dungeon is full of magical darkness. The only thing that can counter it is the light from the item in the quest.

"Problem" solved.

They didn't.

Eberron drow still suffer Light Blindness. Luckily for them, they dwell in thick jungle regions.

Can I assume then that critters in the game are carrying torches, or have they turned up the gamma correction as well?

:D

In all seriousness, I think it's an interesting novelty, and I'm looking forward to it. Though it may be a stretch after a while for me to ignore the fact that mobs won't be toting a flaming "stick o' pitch". (or is the dungeon full of slimes/gelatinous cubage?)

There's a lot of Gelatinous Cubage.

Plus some constructs.

A lot of the Devils are in pre-lit areas (if I'm remembering correctly). And the fire elementals are torches. ;)

There's a few other things, that maybe could stand to have some light of their own, but that's what suspension of disbelief is for. :D
