No improved critical feat? No power attack? But toughness on a d12 HP class with a CON heavy race? And weapon focus?

arcanehealer

i knew that i would get them some time from raiding to i just put them in

brshelton

drop the THF line and get power attack, IC, and the cleaves. That is a ****load of tomes but im assuming your putting them simply to show best case and i can dig that. You NEED Improved Critical and Power attack on this build. Period. No ifs ands or buts PA and IC are a MUST! 1 toughness I can understand for the enhancements but weapon focus is trash. With as few feats as you get its useless.

two handed fighting, improved two handing fighting, greater two handed fighting=THF. IC=improved critical slashing. Some people swear by the THF line but most people I know say its trash and I prefer cleave as it fits my style. But the THF line is mainly garbage IMO.

Without knowing what the goals of the build are it's hard to comment.

One thing that I will say is that having that many hit points is a waste.

my main goal is to make a barbarian that can take a licking and keep on kicking resulting in taking every con and toughness enchancement i could get

Why bother going barbarian if you aren't going to take any of the rage enhancements? Just reroll it as a fighter, take 5 toughness enhancements and go make every poor cleric put you on their "never group with again" list.

brshelton
01-21-2008, 01:10 PM
clerics wont put him there if he A) warns them B) pays them C) kicks ass but ya if your not taking the rage enhancements just go fighter and get 5 toughness feats and still have 10 other feats left.

arcanehealer
01-21-2008, 01:13 PM
you can take toughness 5 times?

my main goal is to make a barbarian that can take a licking and keep on kicking resulting in taking every con and toughness enchancement i could get

A 14 barb with 16 base con, a con4 item, barb con1 and dorf con1, and greater false life has 325-ish hitpoints unraged. 385-ish raged. 410-ish madsone raged. No one needs more hitpoints than that. Barbs get damage mitigation as a class feature -- DR boost. Use it, love it. At least for everything that you can't kill before it turns around to swing at you -- that's the barb's best form of damage mitigation. Kill quickly.

Power attack and imp crit are necessary. All builds attempting to deal melee damage need them. They are not optional.

And as counterpoint to Brshelton, I find the cleaves to be mostly garbage on a build like this -- they reduce your single-target DPS by being slooooooowwwwww animations that break up your attack chain. The THF feats, on the other hand, add ~50 damage per 4-swing combo to both your main target and anything else nearby (and in mod 6, that's going to be ~100 damage per 5-swing combo with 2 glancing blows on the 5th attack). On a non-crittable target, that's a simple 25% addition to your DPS. Nothing else in-game comes close as a percentage increase.

And by the way, any more than 1 toughness feat is a complete and utter waste of a feat slot. I can't even describe how gimped the 5-toughness-feat fighter build is. That's like as gimped as an 8-strength 8-charisma melee sorceror.

hmm i just find myself loving cleave so i guess it just fits my playstyle well. Its saved my butt many times. And yes the 5 toughness build sucks.

Uber build!

I think I'm gonna roll one, but with 16 int instead of 16 dex, and self-sufficient instead of weap finesse -- my repair skill will be 2 points higher than yours! Oh no, 5 points -- it's int-based, isn't it? That'll pwn.
