I have a Bard and i'm suffering 5% spell failure wearing the mummy wraps. I search on the forum and some people say that Bards suffer no spell failure when wearing Light armor. I do have a light mithril shield with 0% ASF. Can you explain what is going on?
Thx!

Are you getting the failure when using scrolls or certain spells in particular? The bardic ability to wear light armor and cast bardic spells with no arcane spell failure does not apply to scrolls, for instance.

Possibilities.... (about in order of likelyness)

1. You are using an arcane scroll (scrolls do not get the ASF reduction that bard spells do)
2. You are multi class wiz or sorc and are casting a wiz or sorc spell
3. You have the wrong shield equipped (been there myself a couple of times)
4. Some kind of bug is happening.

Only Bards, when I cast "ANY" spells! THe shiel is light Mithril no ASF.
I knew about the scrolls, but my Bard spell, I "always" see the dice roll for spell failure.
I'm really getting confused about this.

Hmmm... Does the ASF check show when you don't use the shield? Have you failed any bardic spells on the ASF check with that equipment?

I ask this because I use a Warforged arcane who uses a heavy mithril shield (5% ASF) and lesser arcane docent (-5% ASF, it applies to any ASF) and I used to get the ASF rolls all the time, even though I could never fail them.

In all honesty, I'm somewhat baffled as to why this would occur...

Your chance for arcane spell failure should be shown when you mouse over the spell icon in your toolbar. Is it showing there or are you just seeing a roll pop up even though the mouseover doesn't show any chance?

What type of armor does the mummy wraps description say they are?

I'm really getting confused about this.Scrolls are almost never Bard scrolls. Unless it's a Bard-only spell, the scroll is always Wiz/Sorc. So, even if the spell is on your spell list, if it's also on the Wiz/Sorc spell list (and has Somatic component), you will have spell failure. It's a royal pain in the bum.

Unfortunately, the same goes for my Cleric. I cannot cast a 'Symbol of', Summon Monster, or scroll of any spell that is not Divine-only without an ASF check because the scrolls are all written by Wizards.
