I have a question for experienced players on Risia, or one of the DEVs. I have a 2rogue-12 fighter, with TWF, ITWF, and GTWF.

If I take 2 ranger levels when the cap is raised to 16 and get TWF for free at level 16, will I be able to swap out my TWF feat that I used, or will it mess up ITWF and GTWF because of the levels these were taken at?

You can't swap out a feat that is a prerequisite for another feat if you have that other feat.

Yeah, but after 2 levels of ranger you would have TWF... twice.

Honestly, I don't know the answer to this question.

Someone told me they tried it in the long past and it made them remove the feats all the way down and then put the higher ones back. (ie - remove greater, remove improved, remove TWF, add back greater, add back imporved, spare feat left...) That means it basically takes 5 shards to do it, but yes you can.

But as I said..that was a while ago, who knows how fred would handle it now...

Or you could just continue with fighter levels and not heavily gimp your character.

Just roll up a ranger if you want a ranger. Triple class with no preplanned direction from creation = plain awful.

Feat toggle and circle works like that in class.... but he's going out of class. The answer is actually no. The system adheres to make sure feat chains remain in tack in thier correct order... so you cannot remove TWF from the earlier level without removing GTWF anf ITWF first... what's also true is you cannot place ITWF at a feat slot (like the level 3 feat slot) if you took ranger at level 9 and got TWF for free there. The system knows you do not have TWF until level 9 so will not allow you to place ITWF in the level 3 feat slot. Every feat slot you have the system knows what class you are when the feat was taken and what classes and feats you have prior to that slot... it maintains the chain orders.

how is he gimping his character? he gains the ability to use curing wands, gians +2 fort and reflex, keeps the same bab, and gains alot more skill points, in addition to the two free feats hed gain. plus he might want to go ranger 3 or more (free diehard at 3 and spells at 4, resist spell).

for fighter, hed only gain a +1 to fort, and a free feat.

plus with the way the PrC talents are shaping up, theyd have to add a 3rd tier for him to miss out on any (as hes already 12th fighter which looks like what is needed for a 2nd tier, if they add it).

guy, I say go for it, heck I mean look at my guys. ALL my guys will be tri-class, but that is just me....

I was looking at the benefits for taking two extra fighter levels vs 2 ranger levels.

Level 14 fighter enhancements add nothing of value over level 12. I would get 1 extra feat.

2 ranger levels would add bow strength, rapid shot, and two weapon fighting. It would also add save bonuses. It would also add skills. If doable, even with 5 dragon shards, I would swap all my TWF feats out to take advantage of the free feat, and get no wasted double feat.

My fighter already has high dexterity (17 base + 1 tome +2 drow enh +5 item +1 rogue = 26). I plan to use a +2 tome to get access to STWF.

The other options I am considering are 2 more rogue levels, 2 barbarian levels, or 2 paladin levels. Ranger just seems like the best idea. I would also be tempted to take manyshot as a feat adding to some fighting versatility.
