Just started playing again and while I'm enjoying myself I don't really care for the Paladin I've made. While he's still low in level (about to hit level 3) I figure I redo him now with something I'd really want to play. Since the class I want isn't in the game I have to sort of make him.

That being said the Artificer is one of my favorite classes in the Eberron Setting to read about (talking novels here for example). However the class isn't in the game and it seems some of the skills like repairing Warforge were given to Wizards. So I figure mutliclassing a character with Wizard would be the way to go. However I'm not sure what to multiclass it with. I don't want to start out as a Wizard though. I'm thinking that perhaps either Fighter or Rogue would make up the other half of the "Artificer" character I want to make. Not sure which would work better though or how I should level up this character?

Any suggestions on which class to take, Rogue or Fighter? At what level should I start taking the Wizard class?

Thanks.

Rogue wizards are kind of fun. If you are going theme you could take the way of mechanic and also the iron companion enhancments to have a mechanical dog buddy.
