I have a stupid Eberron question. Elves get longswords, rapiers, longbows, and shortbows automaticly, and the enhancements for Melee attack and damage only apply to these weapons. What gives? The prefered weapon of a cleric or paladin of the Undying Court is a scimitar. Also the Valenar elves prefered weapons are the scimitar and the exotic double scimitar.

Now I will admit that I have a bias here. Scimitars have a very nice crit range and good ones are cheap on the AH. Call it a whine if you want but ...

Give my elf a reason to want to pick up his races real favored weapon.

Scimitars look better than rapiers. :) (same damage, same crits, only differences are no racial enhancement and no proficiency for non-martial classes)

If you are a Cleric or Paladin, you can get the Follower of Undying Court enhancement that gives +1 to-hit with Scimitars (and proficiency clicky for Clerics). But, it's mostly a flavor thing.

True except, scimatars are slashing and rapiers are piercing. I was just curious if the Devs made it longswords due to a lack of Eberron cannon knowledge or they decided too many "old school" PnP people like me would scream.

Not all elves in Eberron follow the Valenar trait though.

There are certain elves that have lived long enough in Khorvaire to not identify with the Valenar and Aerenal Elves

True and if Codog or some other Dev sees this question as worthy of response and agrees with you, I can accept that.
In fact the character that made me think of this is a STR based TWF Dragonmarked fighter build. I found a +4 full plate that just screams Undying Court and decided to go with it. But it made me think,a Paladin of the Undying Court gets a +1 to attack with their favored weapon, a Scimitar, or can get a +2 to attack and damage with a longsword or rapier. What would you use?
I am not asking if they will change out longswords for scimitars, I am asking if scimitars can be added to the list or if a new either / or enhancement could be made to give people a choice of one or the other. Maybe a choice of Khorvaire style Melee attack and damage or an Aerenal / Valenar style Melee attack and damage lines.
I can take no for an answer but I am enjoying the discussion.

Rules are rules but flavor is flavor.

The Player's Guide to Eberron lists Valenar elves as gaining the Martial Weapon Proficiency Feats for the shortbow, the scimitar, and the Valenar double scimitar. That replaces the weapon proficiencies listed in the PHB. I would like to see elves split into 2 races or maybe have 2 enhancement trees for weapons and clerics. (Valenar elves follow the Spirits of the Past, not the Undying Court.) If you take one path, it gives you the weapon proficiencies of that path and the optional bonuses. So if you take Valenar, you lose the longsword, rapier and longbow proficiencies and the longsword and rapiers enhancements. In exchange, you gain proficiency with the shortbow, scimitar and the Valenar double scimitar(when it's added.) You would also be able to take an enhancement for the scimitar, double scimitar, and falchion. Falchion isn't a granted proficiency, but feats like Bladebearer of the Valenar apply bonuses to all 3 and a falchion is often described as a 2-handed scimitar, so I think it fits and would not be anything too overpowering. And it gives them a second weapon untill double weapons are implemented.

Well the reason it's shortbow is because they are mainly cavalry in Valenar, and you can't use the longbows on horseback. I haven't been in this game long but I haven't seen anyone on horseback. So I think they should keep the longbow just for damage purposes if they were to change the racial weapon prof.
