My boss is.
Cold, and hard hearted.

See, we had so much trouble getting the air conditioning fixed this summer that
it is still on. (We were threatened with bodily harm if we complained.)
They managed to get the air conditioning working in late August.
Till then temps in the office reached 96F.

It is December now. Every morning I walk in and check the thermometer.
59F.

I get the sniffles, my fingers don't work right and I wear a jacket all day.

So...
How is it where you work?

Up until a year and few months ago our office was 85+ during the summer and 55- during the winter. The problem with our AC and heating was that we split our building in half so with the doors shut in the middle of the building there was no circulation. But get this we were renting out the other half of it out to an.... HVAC Mechanical heating and cooling contractor! They never fixed it since their half was fine, until they finally moved out and we got the other half of the building back and opened up all the doors now it works a lot better. Still not perfect, when it's a nice 70 over in our half the girls in the front are usually wearing sweaters because it's usually 5 degree's colder in the front half.

So, they are insisting on using something they paid good money for....

My company is right opposite. We just researched and bought some software and the hardware to run it on - costing a little over $200,000...
and while it has been installed (by the vendor's techs at a nice little 50-80,000 tag) and running....

We Can't Use It. Why? The paperwork for board approval has not been done... *rolls eyes* MAYBE they should have done that BEFORE they BOUGHT THE SOFTWARE!!! Much less the Servers.... Much Much less paid to have it Installed!!

So I - who get to play with this nice software (besides having had almost zero training on it) - am sitting around all day on these forums telling people "well... we can't really use it yet.... "

I would, actually, rather be working.

... oh, and ... our AC is fine... if a bit warm for my taste.

I kid you not... last week on Tuesday, the guy across the wall from my cube was complaining to a manager that it was too cold.

Two hours later, on the very same day, the guy in the cube across the aisle was complaining that it was too warm.

To those of you who think it is too cold: buy a jacket, I say. There's no upper limit on how many layers you may wear at work, but there is certainly a lower limit. I can't strip down anymore, so you need to put on a sweater.

its like that...
They turn off the steam for the heaters in june, and don't turn it back on till december.
It does not matter what the outside temperature is...There is a schedule, it will be adhered to.
My bosses are on the ROAD program.
Retired on Active Duty.
They dislike a chick in the office, I am a nuissance they remember not having to deal with...
It is easier to adhere to outdated ideas that didn't work than try new ones that might if you give them a chance.
Idea for new ideas is wait it out. If you do not embrace them, then they will go away.
And, "Back in the day..." stories...Sea Stories... are the routine.
Can't wait till Tursday. They have a weekly meeting...at the bar.
Oh...and "Pi##### Off the Other Guy" is the favorite game. Tradition...really. Authorized.

Well here we're in the last dregs of a snowstorm (10-11 inches total), but while the building I'm in is intensely climate-controlled, I'm in a 12'x12' office with 2 other people and 3 laser pirnters, so it can get uncomfortably warm at times. I've also had to work in offices where the room temp was around 60-degrees, and layers or no it can get cold on the fingers when you're typing all day.

One thing I love about New Zealand is summer christmas.

Aaaaah, barbeques for dinner, light till 9pm, fine weather for holidays....

Shame it's still rather cold and is raining outside.

But it's always fine in New Zealand, unless it's raining....

Well here we're in the last dregs of a snowstorm (10-11 inches total), but while the building I'm in is intensely climate-controlled, I'm in a 12'x12' office with 2 other people and 3 laser pirnters, so it can get uncomfortably warm at times. Very true on the fingers and cold.

But I would much rather be cold than warm/hot.

Its hot in here now and its making me very very sleepy.

I work much better when its a little chilly in here.

My building is at least 50 years old. The roof leaks every time it rains. I have no control over the HVAC, I remain at the mercy of our beloved sales staff. The are constantly fighting over the **** thing. So my office temperatur fluxuates all day. My door doesn't close all the way on it's own and if I forget the winter wind makes it's way in. Same way in summer except it sticks at the top not the bottom. We have mice too I have a little friend here that crawled up my pants leg the other day. Hopefully the rat poison I had to buy will work. I sit all day staring into a 15" monitor, with the glare from a giant window behind me shining it's light on my screen. And to top it off I am surrounded by guys that have less than a high school education. One guy even asked me one day "Hey Jim do you spell 'cut' c-u-t?

My office was extremely cold about a week ago. Thermostat was set to 59. We couldn't change it because it would violate Union contracts, or something like that. My boss was not happy about that and hounded the proper people until they changed it.

We were so cold all of the other people in my group were talking about starting a fire in the waste baskets. :D

Polartec base layer and silk thermals go a long long way and are super thin/light weight.
