I am building a solo machine. I will show my stats as of right now
and ask a couple questions for the experts. My goal is to solo
as much content as possible-no grouping period.

Lawful Good Warforged-Lvl 2 (fighter 1/wizard 1)

these #'s include equipment and such;

STR 18+4
DEX 13+1
CON 13+1
INT 18+4
WIS 6-2
CHA 7-2

Questions:

1. Will I be able to take a lvl of Pali with the low CHA?
2. Should I just go Wizard the next 12 lvl's?
3. Will I survive higher lvl's against mind effect spells
4. Should I reroll and alter the stats to increase WIS and/or CHA?

I was figuring with wizard I could buff myself and use mass damage spells
to deal with harder quests.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

Thanks in advance!

As long as you're lawful good, you can take paladin levels. The low charisma would affect bonuses from divine grace, number of uses of turn undead, lay on hands amount, smite evil damage, maybe some other stuff. It wouldn't have much impact if you only took one paladin level (for aura & wand use, I suppose?).

Ouch - if you have a 7 charisma, you're going to take a -2 penalty to your saves when Divine Grace comes up (level 2 paladin). If you're just looking for 1 paladin level for access to wands or whatnot, it shouldn't make a difference. Why you'd need to do that, though - I don't know - with wizard levels you can heal yourself with the Repair xxx Damage spells.
That Wisdom penalty is going to hamper your Will saves, though - again, a -2 to your Will. Of course, item and feat selection can help to offset that, but it does limit the max save you'll be able to get.

For some reason I was thinking 1 lvl of Paladin would help the will saves automaticly.
Now that you say that I may be forced to reroll because at lvl 3, 4, 5 etc. I will get
held like it was free. ****.

WF can't get held. You will do a lot of dancing, though.

That sounds like a bug; Divine Grace is only supposed to provide a bonus, not a penalty.

The only reason to take the 1 level of Paladin is to get access to certain wands... like Lesser Restoration

Which is a pretty good reason I suppose... but your will save won't be helped by it... for that you'd need a miracle ;)

if your only going to use spells to buff and damage(ie no save on spell) i wouldnt bother staring with such a high int. reinvest the points in a higher con wis and char(if your going take 2 pali levels). surviveabilty is the most important thing for a character you plan to solo with

I guess the first question I have is do you intend for this build to be in the thick of things or more of a tank caster (meaning he can take a licking and not be so squishy).

If you are going for the melee, Concentrate on your Str/Int of course, but in the end you are going to inhibit your other stats by maxing both out. Dropping one of them - most likely the Str - will open up stat points which could be put to use elsewhere to keep from taking those penalty hits.

My personal suggestion for a wiz tank would be load your int up, splash some str but dont go nuts and at least lvl off your others (the dex wont come too much into play depending if you take body armor enhancements). At least keep yourself out of the penalty areas. If you have the resources just drop Dex/Wis/Cha to 9 and supplement them with a +1 tome. Remember, CON is a good thing :)

Your int is going to help ya much in your skill points/repair/SP pools...

Load yourself up and consider an arcane docent when ya can find it.

Then, just blast the **** outta everything that moves

Soloing is a skill - you can't do everything or then you are just mediocre all the way around...

Very good advice folks. Its funny everytime you build a solo toon you
always get 2-3 lvl's and realize you need to change something! Ill keep trying
different combos until I get it right.

Only problem is my lvl 10 cleric, lvl 7 fighter, and lvl 7 Barb are still dreaming of
reaching the lvl cap!

You guys ever notice this game is a blast until you get to around lvl 6 and it's like
you hit a road block? From there it seems every lvl is a grind.

Anyway thanks for the help.

that's true with every build period.

I'm thinkin of a 55/45 Wiz/Cleric build as a Melee character could be a lot of fun with a bunch of buffs :)

Thats a great idea.

I started a battlecleric and I like your idea of splashing in some wizard for buffs.
Just to be different I am using a Drow! lol.
Lets see where that takes me!
