The PvP Tournament

Heya, Wicked and myself been thinkin about ideas for a tournament for a while now. This is what we came up with.

Friday Dec 7th 8:00 CST
Meeting up in the Wayward lobster

20kpp entry fee
Tank vs Tank Caster vs Caster.
1 on 1 in the arena- 1 official (myself or wicked) with every match.
Melee competition to take place at center platform in the arena.
No wands, scrolls, or dispell in melee competition.
Sever (limbchopper) only banned weapon.
Bards will participate with melee, no fascinate.
Rangers will fight with melee
Caster competition open to entire arena.
Caster fights will be no holds barred, anything goes.

Fewest deaths in the 10 min round wins. After each kill the winner will /death followed by a quick rebuff session then back at it. In the event of a tie after the 10 minute round there will be a sudden death match in the lobster pit to decide the winner (im thinking on the bottom lvl so everyone can stand around the top and watch, how cool would that be???) If this becomes an issue with crowd control we just go to arena and do same thing with no spectators.

PRIZES
20k pp entry fee +100kpp to be paid out to top 3. 1st=60% 2nd=30% 3rd 10%
Winner of melee competition will 8 shield pieces
Winner of Caster competition will recieve 4 tome pieces
Also in an effort to get some of the people who do not have extensive pvp experience we will have several random drawings for several epic weapons and items ie. vorps, smiters, banishers, disruptors, grtr banes etc. ONLY FOR THOSE SIGNED UP TO FIGHT!

I'm curious, why is the caster no holds barred, while the melee have restrictions. part of being a pali is being able to use a wand

my thinking was that some umd builds could buff themselves to a point that other builds had no chance (blur, displace, stoneskin etc). Casters on the other hand dont get any real advantage from doin these things. As far as healin goes, paladins have loh and spells that they can use.... just for competetive balance but this is definitely open for discussion.

You can get stone skin and blur from raid items though or is that not going to be allowed either? Displacement might be a bit tough, but do able.

Whoever has ... well I can say that word really on the forums... "overly run" the abbot preraid and got a limbchopper will probably win on the melee side anyway

getting raid items for ur toons is one thing.....buying wands or scrolls is another....Limbchopper thanks for bringing that up. I do believe we will have to make that against the rules just because there is NO defense for it. Again ty for ur input.

Also just leaving some feedback on melee rules, I dont think restrictions to wands, scrolls, dispel shoudl be in place because of taking away the benefits of being a paladin and giving dex builds little chance if the opponent blocks after getting 1 or a few kills.

To elaborate
Pala benefits are quick being able to self buff (DW and resists so dont have to wear item), LoH, Dispel. IE ftr vs pala. ftr is not wearing DB due to useing a clicky of render visor, so a pala dispels it so he can vorpal. Its only fair. Gearing/buff difference is part of PvP

Also if a someone starts blocking a dex build. They are more likely more well rounded build who can use umd if they are a dex build. So they can start casting something to do dmg since that blocker is just sitting there. IE If im up against a human STR FTR on soulkaze(dex pala) who just decides to block untill a debuff (cripple, destruction, hamstring, trip, etc) why cant use a enervation scroll so that he stops thinking about blocking since I know I cant block a STR builds DPS.

bards will fight in melee with no special restrictions, still have to follow rules that apply to all melee tho (no wands, scrolls, or dispell)

This may be the most pathetic accommodation that could have possibly been entertained...Why not just split it into carebears and pvp'ers categories too because we don't want anyones feelings hurt. I honestly thought this was a joke at first, people here honestly consider clerics to be significantly more powerful than casters? If this is so, it can only be so for a couple of reasons...I haven't seen many wf casters (the ones I have seen don't seem to PvP much), which in all honesty is the ONLY logical race for a caster (pvp and pve) any way you look at it...instant heals in pvp cmon...Another reason being in all likelihood the casters haven't learned to manually aim spells in pvp which you have to do in order to be successful (ZOMG MANUAL AIMZZ WILL BE SO MUCH HARDER DAN TARGETINGZ AND TAKES SKILLZZ!!). There are casters I know, WF or otherwise, that could whipe the floor with most clerics because they know how to play and have some skill. The huge range of casters AoE's and the potency of their spells leaves them second to none in damage potential and frequency not to mention their advantage of having 27&#37; chance to crit over a clerics 18%.

Don't flame me for my opinion which is almost entirely based on fact and indisputable evidence, instead consider what I've said. I'm not attempting to come off as arrogant or condescending, this post just really showed me some of the ignorance people have towards builds and their inability to think outside of the box. Implementing this shortsighted request to split clerics and casters will undoubtedly ruin the competition and water down a potentially successful event.

Adistal....i understand what u are saying, i honestly do. However my goal from the beginning was to get as many people into this as possible. Hoping that we would generate interest in PvP from as many players as possible, while at the same time putting together a competition for the players with a lot of PvP experience and strictly PvP specced toons.

If you were me with those ideas in mind, what would you do?

Also a bit of a rule update.....we dont have enough people to split clerics and wiz/sorc, so they fightin together.

Hey not to rain on anyones parade, but how do you propose to deal with the phantom attack issue in the tournament?

Right now the chasing and swinging is borked and no dice rolls occur, one can just run and hop around like a madman and not worry about being hit in melee. This means the hoppers can only really be caught by classes with some sprint boost who must be ahead of the fleeing opponent for a hit to connect (there's also the fact that you slowly regen SP in the arenas but that's counteracted by heal pots to some extent)

For instance if FighterA took a few good hits from PaladinB, he can jsut hop around like a rabbit and keep drinking CSW pots till he's back at full health, and PaladinB can just keep hopping till he regains enough SP to Heal and drink CSW pots.
Probably the only class that can catch the hoppers are Barbarians or maybe Rangers.

The fights will never end until someone just gets fed up of chasing the bunny rabbit around the arena and gives up.

I applaud the effort you've put into organizing the tournament but until the mechanix are fixed, I can't see a proper pvp tournament happening for melee vs melee or melee vs caster.

P.S. Wands and scrolls are banned, what about clickies w/ offensive spells?

P.S. Wands and scrolls are banned, what about clickies w/ offensive spells?The fights were contained to the top of the arena area, limiting the run-around-and-hop strategy. Then, of course, there's three magical feats that help with that too... cleave, great cleave, and whirlwind.

I had a kill or two of someone on the run, and I was killed on the run as well. Didn't seem to be much of a problem at all.

Very well run event, Tower folks. I had a lot of fun and everyone was quite good-natured about the fights. Bringing an audience into the arena was great!

I didn't see any offensive spell-clickies used, but I half expected one or two to happen so I kept pro energy up.

On the contrary mechanics boy, all the melee fights were great, went down very smooth and "the mechanics" seemed to be working fine no one was hopping around like a sissy which I guess is what your used to seeing...So don't worry, you didn't rain on the parade...

No need to get snippy, it's a legitimate concern. Ever been down the brawl pit? Everyone and their cousin hops around like the easter bunny on crack. The latest "tactic" is to set pvp teams in the brawl and have one combantant being healed by a teammate who pretends he isn't doing it...

I'm glad you didn't have that element in your tournament.

We didnt have that problem because we were one on one in the arena with an official to make sure everything was good....pit tactics dont work in the arena :)
