that would be sweet
Can we opt for new content (specificaly trebuchets) instead?

If I can fling cows from the trebuchets, I'm all for trebuchets.
I was never fond of the +1 loot (as I don't make DDO revolve around loot) and the EXP bonus is nice but not really necessary (my characters will reach maxed out EXP if I enjoy them one way or another, simple as that).

There is no reason for it, get over it as these things happen. They had an issue that needed to be fixed, plain and simple. Im sure that never happened to the Op where something took longer than expected or did not go perfectly. Get over it because its only a game. Find some other thing to do outside of mommy's basement when you can't play. There are other things out there and not playing for a night might enlighten people to that. Way to serious to be demanding loot and ex for this.

No, I don't want or expect any compensation. Its not like this game is lacking loot or xp as it is. Besides, its not like some colossal blunder like having to do a rollback or wiping a bunch of data. We couldn't play for half a day longer than expected. Big deal.
IF turbine feels compensation is merited for the time we had to do something else instead... the horror... well, I'd rather it was something entirely different than further inflating the PG level of the game (is that even possible?). And no, I don't have capped toons or piles of sweet loot I don't want others to get. I want to feel like I achieved something when I level up or get a spiffy keen item as a drop.
No.... a sincere apology is quite sufficient for me, and as far as I'm concerned, we already got that.

You have no idea. But it's not so much human nature, as a societies nature.
I can go with that but then I would point out that most people have an inherent instinct to better themselves (it's part of the survival instinct, once you are past the point of just surviving, human then begin to focus on bettering their situation). We could go into the psychology of humans, nature/nurture, etc. but that's just a waste of time. I'm cynical. Basically, I believe that if a person can F you and profit from it, they will. If they can profit from your mistakes, they will. If they can help you and there by profit somewhere down the line, they will.

I dont feel I am owed anything but as a fairly new player to the game would try and enjoy something like a +1 weekend. Most of the long time players have all the neat loot is that why they don't want another weekend to stop the newer players from getting it too? Or do they not want the extra traffic on the servers for that time?

I feel people have a tendency towards certain behaviors, which are either heightened by the current society, or dampened by the current society.
No one does anything for purely altruistic reasons. There is always a hidden agenda.
Nothing is altryistic, yes, but sometimes the motive is it just makes people feel good to do nice things. For example, when I wasn't having anything to do with my family for several years, I spent every Thanksgiving and Christmas at soup kitchens as a volunteer, serving food to the homeless. It wasn't entirely because I wanted to make sure they had something to eat and a warm place to be on those days soley, it was also because I needed something.
But not everything is done with hidden agendas. Generally, people with hidden agendas don't want people to know their real movites, because they might be frowned on. Though sometimes it's because they want to do good, but not have a fuss made over them.
There is always a reason to do something. Sometimes, to improve yourself, you need to help others with improving themselvs. The indiviual verus society.

Hmm... No on loot/xp.
But assuming the downtime was gameside only, their devs got a whole day without Q/T noting forum pleas, gripes, wines, complaints, suggestions, questions, repeatable bugs, etc. A whole day. They probably got something done in that timeframe. I say that means we get some of their time back: IRC Chat... (and/or Yo Mama Contest on IRC).

Well after reading freakonomics, I do believe this. Most people are generally honest, and doing nice things makes people feel good about themselves which is a powerful psychological incentive.

I am actually going to say yes, but not because of the downtime, but more as a way to spark interest in the game and as a holiday treat. Everybody argues that a +1 loot weekend would further unbalance the game. I would agree with those people in regards to the previous loot weekends, but not regarding this one for the following reason the level cap raises in a month. We will be looting the same level chests (18) in a month's time anyway so there is not much of an unbalancing factor, and regardless our current loot will become outdated when the level cap goes up so why not get a headstart. The problem with the previous loot weekends was that they were too soon after the cap was raised and reinforced the monty haul aspects of this game. I think the +1 weekend should be in two weekends. The xp weekend I am more in favor of as a present for early in a cap so I would hold off on that although I would like something nice for newer players as well..

Not really to stop new players from getting stuff, but to stop them from getting it more easily than the long time players.
Of course, the long time players have already had 4 +1 loot/50% xp weekends.

I agree with MadMatt, while I don't think they owe us for yesterday (hardware issues happen! A nice detailed explaination would be nice, but no need to give us anything for it IMHO).
However, I also agree with him that some kind of special event would be nice. I know that the Festivus Jester MAY be back soon (and I really hope so, as I am almost out of cool cookies and cakes :)), but I think they should do this:
A Welcome Back Weekend with +50% XP. There are a lot of old players I really miss, and who knows the "Home for the Holiday's" line may actually work on some of these ex DDO players!

The 50% XP would help you, but not the +1 loot. While you are pulling a +1 Flaming Sword from a lower level chest the long time players will likely be pulling another Vorpal or Paralyzer they will put on the market for insane ammounts or twink down to a character near your level. How does that help the new guy? :)

I know some have said it, but DDO should not revolve around loot and exp points. I play for the experience and the fun of it. If I end up leveling a character to the level cap, OK. If I find a piece of loot that will better help me along the way even better. DDO is a way for me to relax from the stress of RL. It is just a game. Yes, I was disapointed that I didn't get to play Monday night, but I just found something else to do.
We do not need another loot/exp weekend.

Neither.
I always thought that giving away something to us in a virtual world to make up for screw ups or more precisely game outage to be silly.
Ill take the day credit anyday. Do I need the 50 cents? NO. But what do you think would hurt a company( get there attention) more to avoid future screw ups; them giving us something of no real world (bonus loot/xp) value that is no 'punishment' or deterent to them to repeat the behavior or them actually giving us a real world refund/credit ? To me the real world credit is much more likely to prevent a company from accepting failure than giving us a freeby nothing.
$.50 x number of subscribers = BIG real world money and disincentive for them.

No because the +1 loot is not much of anything.
And also that down time is down time and although its ok for them to apologize. Turbine doesn't owe me anything but an apology which they have already issued.
Good customers want good service
bad customers want to take advantage of the situation.
Extorting Turbine to get a +1 loot and 50% weekend is being a bad customer.
Turbine said their apologies, it happens. No system is perfect and people seem to forget the other 365 days that the system was up. Move along people nothing more to see here.
End of line.

Kind of a pointless thread, but I'll throw a copper at it anyway.
I like the way it was handled this time. Lots of info during the crisis and an unnecessary (but appreciated) expendable token of apology.
The token candy canes benefit everyone no matter how much time they play, or which days they can log in. The Looticus weekends always leave some folks out in the cold.
