View Full Version : Is the Ring of the Djinn broken?

Is it me or is the 33% absorption of electrical damage property of the ring of the djinn not working, in PvP or PvE? I can't find anywhere in my combat log where 33% (or however it would be categorized ) of elec damage is stopped. Which should the damage reduction be typed as in the combat log?

I was wondering this myself in the blue dragon room when hit by lightening it will say hit for x lightening damage 30 was stopped by your resistance you to y damage but it does not look like any was absorbed although it is not to easy to read through all the messages of combat.

I doubt it says "X was absorbed."

If people are up for it, I'm down for some PvP testing. A few situations. Ring on, no other buffs. Ring off, no other buffs. Ring on, 30pt Lightning Resist. Ring off, 30pt Lightning Resist. Ring on, 30pt Resist and 120pt Protect. Ring off, 30pt Resist and 120pt Protect. Ring on, 120pt Protect. Ring off, 120pt Protect.

Might take a little while, but it'll tell us if the ring is working properly. Just gotta make sure the caster isn't critting so we can have a more controlled experiment.

Anyone game?

Shocking grasp is likely the best spell to test this as it isn't likely to kill you. :p

Good point. I'll have to re-mail the ring to Honos if testing is done. Tanka's got Evasion. :p

no those elemental energy absorption items are not shown in combat log.
firestorm greaves works the same, doesnt show up in the log but does have fire dmg reduction of 33%.

I also believe it is broke. In addition to not absorbing the 33 %, I also think it lowers your resist to 10 even if you have a 30 resist item or spell on. I will have to check tonight, but with the blue dragon robe and the ring on my resist on my character sheet is elec resist 10 instead of 30.

I tried this with a caster friend of mine, although not to quite this extent. He used ball lightening and all damage reductions in my combat log could be accounted for by resists (10 for ring alone, 30 for caster resists) or protections. I did take into account if i saved or not. The 10 pt resist provided by the ring works fine, but the 33% absorption seems broken to me. A friend of mine said the ring of the djinn has nvr worked in pvp, and I've found it hard to test in quests.
I would love to see turbine add something (besides a description on the item) to the combat log to give us an idea of what the ring is doing. I'll try this again in a low lvl quest....
Thx for the input.

Wow! That sucks. I'll test this tonight as well.

Sadly, Maximize doesn't work like PnP, or this would be 100% simple.

How many shots will you need to get a good sample, I wonder?

Your best bet would be to use the kobold shaman at the end of Low Road Elite. A low level critter has more consistent damage, and significantly reduces the number of samples needed for accurate results.

That or a fresh-out-of-the-harbor L1 Wizard with Shocking Grasp. Should at least give us an idea on whether it's working or not.

True enough.

I'm willing to play guinea pig so long as I have a buffer on-hand to hit me with proper resists/protects. Not free tonight or tomorrow night, but after that I got all the time in the world (for now).

I remember that the ring was bugged way back when mod 4 first came out... I submitted a bug report and stuck my rings of djinn in bank. I knew it was bugged cause I had tested it out in pvp with a guildie. I have not tested it since...

Is is theoretically possible for something to be broken in PvP and work fine outside, and vice versa, hence why I stand by my original kobold recommendation :)

I would be willing to run some tests with it as caster or subject, I am not electric spec and with no items should not crit frequently. Look for balto and send tell if anyone wants to test tonight or I may just go to the end of the low road. I seems to me it should have some kind of message like DR does.

my sorcs ball lightning avg to about 330 a hit. over and over again roughly 330. playing with a buddy who has the ring in pvp it was around 200.over and over again 200. he took ring off the dmg went back to 300+ . everytime. if thats not the ring absorbing 33%, what is it?
