Quick Question on multi classing, whats the best mix for a fighter, i would like to be able to heal myself with wands( i find it easier then pots). I was thinkin mixing in some cleric levels but not sure if there is a downside to this ( weapons i cant use and such.
would a fighter pali mix make sense?
thanks for any feed back on this one guys

You can make a Fighter/Paladin (for minor auras/immunities), Fighter/Ranger (for TWF), but most players would advise against a Fighter/Cleric because you lose BAB.

What MB said .. the paladin, ranger and fighter forums are littered with good builds that mix those three classes pretty well.

Personally, I'm in favor of the 11f/3p split for a mostly fighter build (although I've got a 9f/3p/2rog WF in the works that should end up being extremely flexible and survivable :))

Adding cleric shouldn't affect your fighter weapon proficiencies as such things stack. It would give the advantage of being able to do some casting with only one level instead of the required four for pally (or ranger for that matter). If you are only wanting wands however either pally or ranger might be better than cleric because they are full BAB classes. Otherwise you could splash some rogue and go for UMD to cast cure wands/scrolls.

Finally, one build is a WF 13/1 or 12/2 wiz/ftr (such as http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=116254 ) it is played as a tank and not a caster and can be very effective (reconstruct is great for self heals is the %#@*).

I tend to steer new folks (or even less experienced) away from builds like that. Turning a caster into a valid melee participant requires a pretty decent amount of micromanagement :)

Personally, I'm currently leveling a WF 10src/2pal/2rog and learning that the hard way. They're also very expensive at the low levels and not really fit for PuG groups in general - your new pug friends will tend to have a different expectation of your role than you do which can lead to some difficulties .. :D

If all you want is a fighter who can heal with wands, Pally does make a good choice. If you are willing to invest some stat points into Charisma your second level of pally will get you a nice saving throw boost and a lay on hands.

If as binnsr suggested you go for 3 levels of Pally you could have (spending some action points)

- have immunity to fear
- + to saves equal to you Cha adjustment
- a 2nd lay on hands (2 AP)
- +2 AC (2 AP)
- +2 Saves (2 AP) stacks with cha bonus

If you want some sp with the pally, and get more with the lay of hands take 4 pally 10 fighter.

Good point, I didn't see what forum it was on until after I posted. :)

if we are looking at using wands at start n mid game, best builds will be ftr11/pal3 or ftr13/rgr1. the pally variant gets more immunites, saves and healing but at an expenses of ftr feats. the ranger variant gets bow strength but more feats.

if you are more interested in using wands at a higher lvl, then go ftr12/rog2 or up to ftr10/rog4 for the umd. this not only allows you to use wands, but scrolls and rr or ar equipment. downside is you lose bab but gain sneak att
