+4 AC, Improved Fire, Cold, & Lightining Resists

OK I get all that, but at times it activates "Defiance"

It has my WF stand and fight, no retreat.

OK, no problem.

My question, what causes it to activate, "Defiance"?

That I haven't figured out.

probably the same kind of thing as the madstone boots and the other when you get hit % chance of X happening.

Are there any bonuses with "defiance"? or does it just make it so you can't retreat?
