Hail all,
I have been looking around for a decent pair of googles for my fighter 10/paladin 3 / rogue 1 - built for high AC, decent DPS and good UMD (about 30 with buffs)

I am stumped for what a good pair of non-raid googles would be (I do not raid much and would prefer to rely on easier to acquire items).

The best I can do is the Spectular optics from Threnal but with +5 protection items available (but seemingly not on googles...) I am missing two potential AC points (not much I understand but I want to do everything possible to get my AC up there).

Does anybody who has a melee focused character use anything but the Optics from Threnal? I know there is a pair of raid googles with True seeing on them which would be nice but really more situational in my mind.

The communities thoughts would be very welcomed!

Here's a google (http://www.google.com/) you can use. :p :D

Seriously, though. There's not a lot of decent goggles out there for melee types. Trapblast Goggles are obsoleted by +4 Resistance items. Spectacular Optics are obsoleted by +4 Resist and +4 or better Protection. You can always go for Blindness Ward of <skill> (I like Spot skill). Also, there is a new set of named goggles from the Orchard of the Macabre with Seeker +4 on them. Adds +4 to confirm critical rolls and +4 x weapon crit multiplier to critical hit damage.

Depending on if you have a high +resist item. The goggles from STK are still nice at high levels. +4 Reflex would be nice for your evasion. Called Trap-Blast Goggles. Oh you don't have evasion, well they are still nice.

Aye the seeker goggles from are nice if you don't have space for bloodstone trinket +6 seeker.

Yeah, Blindness ward might be the best actually. Temple of Vol has a lot of guys casting blindness.....other Orchard stuff as well.

Spot is good also. Spec Ops if you get benifit from them.

Other non-raid stuff tends to be clickies I think. Have to look at what your toon needs or doesn't have from something else.

The most usefull non-raid goggles for a fighter type are probably blindness ward of shield. Blindness isn't cast all that often, but it's a real pain when it is and it makes you much easier to hit. Also, it's always usefull to have a shield clickie equiped to deal with magic/force missles. Hot key the goggles so that you can cast shield quickly to deal with sudden attack.

Blindness ward of the eagle (at least +10) are what i recommend.

Goggles of Haste with 5 charges. :)

My fighter has some, and they are bound... I am clueless which quest i got them from.

I would pretty much agree here. Blindness ward is one of those things that comes in handy often enough to want, but not often enough to be must-have (though you tend not to notice when it's working). Shield is a nice clickie effect, but basically look for any useful clickie as well. Spot is good for melee'ers too if you have a half-decent Wis or spot score. As an aside, the Sandstorm Goggles from the Demon Queen raid not only give True Seeing, but Blindness immunity also.

Otherwise, I expect that the OP's 1 rogue level is for trapfinding, so a set of good spot and good search goggles is a must (+11 minimum, but +13 is not too rare), and Disable is a common goggle add-on, but I likewise expect that you are aware of that, and are looking for a good set of "always worn" goggles.

Love these.. +13 Spot, +2 Wis, Secret door detection..... COme s in VERY handy...

Blindness ward is nice, but you need to get Spot up as high as posible now to detect those mobs....

Another off-the-wall suggestion:

If your DEX is low, pick up +6 int goggles cheap off the AH, then post mod-6 take the feat that allows you to use your INT modifier instead of DEX modifier for reflex saves.

That's why my fighter wears B-ward with +10 Spot on 'em. As an elf she gets a natural bonus to Spot anyway. Currently at 20 Spot with those goggles.

Those the Seeker +4 goggles? Pre-raid, right? Yeah, if I come across a set of those I'd probably wear them, but I'm not interesting in grinding my way through the pre-raid over and over for a slim chance to find them. If I get them, great, if not, so be it.

I'm grinding my way trought the preraid over and over again as it's a loot run.
Who's going to spit on lv 17 loot! ;) Not to mention all the cool named loot and tome pieces, anyway we're flagging a bunch of toons so..:D

I hope I find a pair of these too!:D

Hey all,
Thanks for the all the input. I pulled a nice set of blindnessward goggles of the eagle (spot +13) which are race restricted (i.e. ml: 13). I think the intricate field optics would be useful as well but have not pulled those yet and they are way to expensive on the AH (most are going for 3 million+ gold - i have that but not willing to spend it on those goggles right now...)

I think the goggles from the DQ raid are the best for fighter types but given my luck with raiding, those are a long time coming...

Good hunting all.
