There are several linux programs that help you run windows software (such as wine for Linux) but we do not support playing the game on any other OS. Good luck :)

I was able to play Lord of the Rings online using Wine in Ubuntu.

The only special thing I needed was a script that handled the login. I couldn't update the game in Linux, so I needed to copy it over from a Windows install.

DDO has an identical launcher, so you may be able to find some help with that.

Do a google search for LOTRO in Linux or possibly even DDO in Linux. I know there's at least one very helpful thread on the Ubuntu forums that should come up.

Huh! Wow. Any tips on writing the login script? I might try this in cedega.

In hopes that someone somewhere will find this useful:

With my openSuSE firewall enabled or disabled, everything works except guild and party chat. Very strange - it reports that I've sent the guild chat (or party chat) but no one else sees it, and I don't see what they type.

Also, I had to drop to low texture details - wine/openGL just couldn't handle the new water effects.

So far it's just suitable to soloing and checking the AH. Progress tho, progress.

Although we don't officially support any other operating systems, we do try to help point people in the right direction if we can't directly help.

http://www.lotrolinux.com/ is a third-party application that was designed to be used in Wine. A DDO launcher is available on that same site, here: http://www.lotrolinux.com/DDO/

Good luck!

Hi there!

Have you ever heard of my guild chat/party chat issue? If I can fix that I am good to go.

Sorry, but there isn't much I can do to help. The best thing to do at this point is to submit a bug log on http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2910 and hopefully senob is still actively maintaining it.

I am attempting to play DDO on a Linux box using opensuse 11.2. I have apparently successfully in stalled DDO and PyLotRo, patched the DDO client, created an account with the DDO but am unable to log on to the servers, even when they are up. I get an error 07 "account details incorrect" it's as though PyLotRo is trying to talk to the LotRO servers (for which I don't have an account) rather than the DDO servers even though I have changed the appropriate settings in PyLotRo. Any suggestions would be very helpful and I apologise if this repeats an existing thread but I could not find a recent thread that this fits.

On PyLotro - make sure you have it set up for DDO and not Lotro. You'll find this under the Tools menu. Use the Settings Wizard to make sure that the home directory for DDO is specified, and then Tools.. Switch Game to make sure that the launcher is set for DDO. You might need to use patch game to get the install up to date and after every patch day.

Thanks for that but it still does not recognise my account, I still get account not marked as active. Also PyLotRO does not seem to remember the settings from invocation to invocation, should it do so? I assume it should. It is as though it isn't or can't write to the configuration files but I've made sure the permissions are OK and I have all of the dependencies for PyLotRO installed (I hope). It still looks to me as though it is pointing at the LotROL servers as it comes up with Devourer and Keeper as the two realms and they do not seem like DDO worlds to me. Still trying but any other suggestions would be nice.

Sounds like you have the European client/version of DDO. Devourer and Keeper are the dead/dying European servers.
