Thanks in advance for any advice.

I play on a desktop that has a wireless connection to my modem. When not in game I usually have a 56 Mbps connection. Entering the game usually drops it immediately to 36 Mbps and Orchard drops it to 11-18 Mbps. Not desireable but playable. Here is where it gets bad. My guild uses Skype. When I turn Skype on my connection speed drops to 2-5.5 Mbps and makes the game unplayable.

Is Skype that much of a resource hog? Is there a way to adjust settings to get this to stabilize?

The desktop is in the same room as the router and modem but on the opposite side of a large room.

Thanks

Skype is a HUGE resource hog. It sucks up a large amount of bandwidth. I still use it. Solution, don't use wireless for playing games where lag is an issue. My friend has a plan to put in a wireless network in his basement for LAN parties and First Person Shooter games. I told him I'll bring my switch when we play for those of us who actually like reaction speed in reaction based games. ;)

Good point and well taken. I need to ditch the wireless.

Good point and well taken. I need to ditch the wireless.Or ditch Skype. ;) The DDO voice chat takes a lot of tweaking to get right, but really does work very well. :)

I don't think I'll be successful convincing everyone to stop using Skype because it sucks for me :)

As much as I'd like to :)
