This is gonna sound really silly, but I'm no math wiz (my grammer is worse)and I know even less about formula's and what not... my cousin has a Rouge/Ranger with a 26 dex, he's currently wearing +5 mithril ChainShirt... We was told to get a Mithril +5 Breastplate... is it gonna be alot more armor class?... because it's one heck of alot more plat... can someone help me with this question...

+5 mithril breast plate.

5 armor
5 enchant bonus
5 max dex

+5 mithril chain

4 armor
5 enchant bonus

the only bonus to having breastplate over chain shirt is if you have a dex of 21 or less.

once you hit a dex of 22, the chain is better

in addition, the breastplate still incur's a skill check penalty of 1 (i believe.. i could be wrong though) whereas the chain shirt does not.

Also, I'm not totally sure on this, but in my experience the +5 mithril bp is more rare. I've pulled about 6 sets of +5 mithril chain, but only seen 1 set of +5 mithril breastplate out. Either way for your cousin you'd want to stick with the mithril chain.

It's becuase there is more demand for the BP over the chain. Given the lower dex requirememnt for the same AC alot of evasion tanks make use of the BP. Chain shirts are nice for a few rogues and maybe a caster or 2 but most rangers's dex is high enough to use robes so there are more chain shirts not being used.

+5 mithril BP has the same ACP as the chain shirt... 0.

It is "better" because you need less dex to use it. This also means that when you lose your dex bonus to AC while helpless/incapacitated, you still have that 1 AC over the chain.

Is it worth the large price increase? That's up to your build.

Breastplates are also "better" if you have access to armor mastery enhancements that you plan on using.

The chain shirt has a lower chance for arcane failure so it all comes down to personal preference.

A rogue would probably prefer the chain shirt since they don't normally have armor enhancements and usually do have UMD while a ranger (especially a dwarf ranger with racial armor enhancements) would likely prefer the breastplate.

Not only that but some rangers prefer not to take weapon finesse so they don't 'need' all the dex they can get but instead need to focus on strength and just need enough dex to not lose out on anything.

And that is very important when wearing leather undergarments.:cool:
