Hey Thaco, I'm posting this on behalf of a friend... he was given a 3 day ban today because of an apparent misunderstanding.

His name was changed, and given a ban because he tried to bypass the naming filter to use an extremely racially offensive name.

Negraa Modelo.

It's the name of a Mexican beer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negra_Modelo). It's nothing racist, it's a spanish for Black Model - the dark beer of the Modelo beer line.

He's had the name since beta without a problem. He was in a group with a character who he didnt get along with, words were exchanged (he apparently called the guy a ****** - which while not nice, isnt exactly a bannable offense. He didnt cuss the guy out or use inappropriate language (unless '******' has now become inappropriate)), and he dropped group.

The guy obviously reported him... but a name change and a 3 day ban for using an "extremely racially offensive" name is completely overboard. Negra/negro is the spanish for black. Unfortunately - it's also similar to a racially offensive word, but he was in no way trying to bypass the naming filter. Another of his characters is named after a winegrower.

Just wanted to bring it to your attention - because of the ban he doesnt have forum access either. it's a misunderstanding on the part of a GM who both doesnt know Spanish OR beer - and we're both hoping this can be rectified.

GM was Miranda. Player name was, again, Negraa Modelo. Thelanis server.

Thanks for your time.

This isn't the first time there has been a problem with Miranda just taking someone's report for the facts, instead of investigating the situation his/herself.

See this thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=120162)

I would recommend sending a PM to Sparker with the toons name, GMs name, server, and a message discribing the situation.

Bwahah! I figured it out! Miranda hates beer! Read the OP of that linked thread - the character name was Maibock. A style of BEER! ;)

Haha thats too funny for that kinda coincidence ;)
