my main toon is a barb, so one day i said to myself why dont i put myself in the bards shoes... so i did and i enjoy it (though miss the 170-200 in red numbers every 3 hits) ill buff , cc, and heal and now lvl eight and theres 1 thing missing:
RESIST ENERGY
what is the SUPPORT class of D&D the weakling at solo power doing without one of the most crucial spells in the game... it boggles my mind every other caster gets it yet a bard cant come up with a song to protect his friends from fire etc...
i dont care why i dont currently have it , i just want it changed.
so am i the only one out there with a bard that gets a little annoyed when he has to buy or find wands to cast it? or would you rather have it/want your local bard to carry it. plz feel free to help me get to the devs :P or tell me why we shouldnt get it...

My big disappointment as far as Bard spells is lack of Jump.
The wands aren't that rare, or expensive, at least as you get up there in level. And the duration is fine.
But Jump, is always the weak caster level 1 version. :(

Bards can be great soloists mine has a 30 str all the time rages to 34 a to hit with powerattack on of 32 haste, blur, displacment, stoneskin no fail heal scrolls and 260 hp's i don't call that a weak solo build and yes i crit 140-180.
All that aside bards don't get repair spells or remove poison or jump a bunch of other great bufs thats the trade off jacks of all trades.

I didn't even notice the "weakling" part. That is a laugh! I don't think I've ever said this to anyone, but reroll now. If you think Bards are the "weakling" of solo, you either hosed up your build, or aren't playing your Bard correctly.

Greetings,
I also wish bards got resist energy and jump. I guess you just can't have everything. Unfortunately not having Resist Energy prevents my bards from completely replacing a cleric. Although when I do group without a cleric, I generally make sure there is a ranger or paladin or wizard in the party who can cast the resists. 99% of the time you're not in a group that has no cleric, ranger, paladin, wizard or sorc with resist energy. As far as soloing goes, what are you soloing? Most of the time when I solo, the House P buffs will suffice. Otherwise try to pick up some greater resist items, they are not super rare anymore. Fire is generally the most prevalent and easy to find on robes. I carry a greater fire resist robe on my main bard, just make sure you're displaced. :)
Jump is annoying not to have, and many people have actually ASKED me to cast it on them. I think it would make sense for bards to have, but I guess they don't in pen and paper. On my main I just maxed the skill, and along with skill buffs and a decent strength, he sits in the 30s without the spell, and gets up to 40+ with a jump item. But it does suck not being able to cast it on others, I sometimes have to pass my jump ring around lol.
Every class needs weaknesses, this is one of ours. With my 13 bard/ 1 cleric build I usually offer DVs to the ranger/pally/wiz for giving people resists. In this manner, I sort of have them covered, at least the resources for them. If bards had resist energy, I think they would honestly be too good. :P
Regards,
Booser
PS: I read that wrong, you said bards are a "solo weakling" ... to that I say: ROFLCOPTER.

Battlebards aren't weak soloing at all. Robes and cloaks of resists don't hurt the bard much and they can umd resist wands if they really need it, as well as every other type of wand out there.

There are a few ways to handle this....
1. Wands/Potions of resist energy (rather short and only 10 pts)
2. Scrolls/Potions of Protection from Energy (I like these, although when soloing you can end up going through quite a few)
3. Items with resist effects on them. Cloaks and rings are my favorites
