I'm a few days into the 10 day trial and liking the game very much. I am a vetran of EQ, EQII and Vanguard and played LoTRO beta and find this to be refreshingly different if not a bit overwhelming at first with all the customization and specialization of characters that is available.
If I upgrade to the full subscription will my toons poof or will I be able to continue playing them? Yea I know they will not be "optimal builds" but I would like to keep them around a while.

If you turn your trial account into a paid account you keep all of what was on that account (characters, favor, equipment, you name it).

I know this mainly because I was a DDO trial player that went pay-to-play... and I don't regret it. :D

You'll keep them, and if they're not already on Thelanis, you can even pay to transfer them there :p

The servers are all the same other than community. I'd be willing to say the community on Thelanis could be called "Special" but they might beat me for it.:D

I have no idea. I'd say yes probably, but don't take it for granted.
On another hand, once you get some experience you'll realize that whatever you accomplished during your 10 day period, you could do it better in a couple of evening plays ;)

I updated a few weeks after running of days on my trial, my character weren't deleted.:)
