I loged on a little while ago and got a group. then did a typical greeting with the only responces being the lit up boxes of the other players.

I kept playing with the settings and their voices never got any higher. as far as i know i have not changed any settings since i played last and i could hear everybody

this may sound a bit stupid but it happens, check your actuall windows sound setting, it could be off or down too low. oh anda thought could u hear the other graphics sounds?

yes the first things i checked was the windows settings and some were lower that i thought they should but that wasnt the problem so far. the ingame game sounds come in very well but when i do mic test and being in a group talking i cant hear anything. i took all the game sounds down to 0 and still their voices are hardly noticable.

Probably not your problem, but my usb headset will randomly reset the voice chat to the onboard sound a lot of the time.

Under the sound options I have to reselect my voice device back to the headset on a regular basis.

well found the problem, the headset I use aparently wont emit the voices any more.

like i said the game sounds came in clear as day but only the voices were drowned out.

So its off to the store to exchance the headphones, Iv only had them for maybe a month

In case you did not know,

Voice Volume = others' volume through speakers/headset (keep this one at 100%)
Microphone Gain = your volume (mine is at 10%)
Capture Threshold = raising this filters out soft sounds like your own breathing. ;)

Huh. I didn't know that.

That seems a little odd to me Corran.

Can you play a dvd or something and have the voices come through?

Or is there just something wrong with your headphones in that they won't put out noises in a certain frequency range?

Microphone Gain is not a volume, persay.

You usually set the gain by turning it all the way up while using the voice test. Then you talk into the mic, if you watch the meter it will start to tun Red and then when its all the way up it will CLIP.

Clip means that you are over pushing the amp and the signal is getting cut off at the peaks resulting in a square wave, This will make your voice sound like you are skipping every other word or parts of words are missing.

If you gradually turn the Gain down until it is no longer showing any red and then turn it down just a tad more so if you start talking loud in the mic, your voice will not over power the amp and Clip. This is the point where your voice will sound the best that it can to everybody else.

it will be different on most systems as I have mine around 70 to 80, i think.

Mine did this last night. Durning the day everything worked fine. I logged to cook dinner and when I logged back on I wasn't getting any voice (more like I could hear people speaking but it was like they were in a room down the hall and I could only make out one or two words every once in a while) I check all my settings, they were set were they were supposta go. I even restarted moving my headset from the back plug ins to the front. While with that all the game sounds came in clear. Still no voices. I even tried a deferent mic/headset. That one was even worse since I couldn't hear anything. When I do a mic test I can hear my voice as normal over the headset.

I will say that I have noticed that in the past month voices have been getting queiter and queiter for people that are normaly at normal or even loud volume.

The opening vidoe is still messed up, so I am pretty sure I won't hear voice chat again today.
