I have a 2 rogue/3 Wizard and I now realize that I am useless in my attempts to use most, if not all wands!

Is there a way to increase my UMD at this stage? Is there another way to enable me to use wands to add to my usefullness?

Thanks in advance.

I take it you mean divine wands that are not on your wizards spell list. To be honest just keep max ranks in umd and if you have a feat to spare skill focus can help as well as boosting your cha. UMD is pretty useless until you get it up to 16 or so. After that is can be quite good.

There are only a very few items in the game that will give you a boost to that skill and most of them are raid loot. The one exception is the necklace from Delera's which offers a +3. Items with command on them (not the spell) will also increase your cha based skills by one, but being a rogue you might not like the side affects as it lowers your hide skill modifier.

Spells, bard songs, and even the potions from house D collectables can raise your umd skill temporarily as well. Don't give up on UMD, it is great even at mid levels but it does take a little time to get there.

Hmmm, interesting...
Well, a +2 Charisma item, obviously. Skill Focus: UMD. A robe of command, and an item for luck (if you can actually find one, that is). Not much else at that level that will be static. Add in skill boost, and a heroism potion for flexible buffs, and you end up with a 19, which is enough to use a CLW wand with no real chance of failure, and a cure mod well enough that it is cheaper than potions.

Just an observation here, I know it is not what you asked for help with, but if I were to have 2 levels of rogue, I would have taken them at level 1, and the second one at level 12-14. I would have just waited to put any more ranks in UMD until then and made it max out from then on since you would have enough skill in it to make it work pretty reliably. Of course, if you are getting more ranks in Rogue that is pointless, but since this is the wizard forums, I made an assumption...
