Isn't the level of ranger a waste? Especially since it delays critical rage II till level 17?

Bow Strength with rage is pretty **** sweet...

I even have Improved Critical: Range.... with a silver bow that's a 3x crit on a 17-20 with barb raging strength.....

It's a niche build, but when ranged weapons are called for... I kick @$$

Might wanna recheck..

You don't have improved crit range, nor slashing. You have cleave and greatcleave, which seems overkill with GTHF.

GTHF of course... Improved Critical: Range is not something I'd expect to see on very many barbarians. I have 4 fighter levels so I had the feat to spare... In most cases, you definitely lose more than you gain...

I was just saying, that 1 level of ranger does offer SOME benefit to Barbarians

Bow Strength
Ability to use cure wands
Favored Enemy (hey, +2 damage on every swing to undead/whatever does help)

Is it the best choice? Nope... splashing anything on a barbarian hurts because that 14th level Critical Range enhancement is just THAT good... but I'm here to say that you don't totally gimp yourself splashing fighter or ranger either... My guy holds his own on end-game elite quests just fine.

Even though I deeply miss the Barbarian Critical Range, I do kick @$$ against the Demon Queen (and other ranged encounters), and I have Stunning Blow and Improved Trip... and that's fun for me...

But with 14 base dex on a dwarf, you're going to be rather limited at range.

I recently rolled a similar build to this with the sole purpose of soloing. Not trying to steal OP's thunder, but the builds are so much alike thought I should post this TWF variant.

Progression: Elven 2 ranger/11 barb/1 ftr (ranger 1-2, barb 3-7, ftr 8, barb 9+)

Starting Stats: 18/16/14/8/8/8, +1 dex tome by 6. (no tome option, dex 17, con 13 and take barb con enh's). Level Ups into Str. 252 HPs w/ toughness 3 enh (not including raging bonus, +Con gear, Draconic Vitality, GFL)

Easily Attainable (casual player) 14 Stats:
Str (18 +3 levels +2 favor tome +5 item) =28*
Dex (16 +1 tome +3 enh +4 item) =24
Con (14 +4 item) =18
Int 8
Wis (8 +4 item) =12
Cha 8

Ideal 14 Stats:
Str (18 +3 levels +2 favor tome +6 item) =29*
Dex (16 +1 tome +3 enh +6 item) =26
Con (14 +6 item) =20
Int 8
Wis (8 +6 item) =14
Cha 8

*I realize str is odd in the ideal calculations (really hoping for +3 tome) but power rage 3 nets a +9 str rage @ 14 (+7 before 14). If this doesn't float your boat, aren't confident in getting +6 items, or want another no-dex-tome option put level 4 increase in dex and drop power rage 3 and use the 3 enh points as you please

Feats:
1: Toughness, Ranger: Favored
2: Ranger: TWF, Rapid Shot
3: Precision (swap for PA once you are comfortable w/ +to hit)
6: iTWF
8: Fighter: IC:Slashing/Piercing (depending on if you have better longswords or rapiers, ideally w/p rapiers but i have some nice mid range longswords so going slashing first)
9: IC:Ranged
12: gTWF

Enhancements:
Fighter Attack Boost I
Barbarian Damage Boost I
Ranger Spring Boost I
Barbarian Critical Rage I
Barbarian Extend Rage III
Barbarian Extra Rage II
Barbarian Power Rage III
Barbarian Willpower II
Barbarian Toughness III
Ranger Dexterity I
Elven Dexterity II
Elven Enchantment Resistance II
Elf Melee Attack II
Elf Melee Damage I
Elf Ranged Attack II
Elf Melee Damage I

(May swap Elf Atk/Dmg around if I am not having to hit trouble @ higher levels, but for low level soloing I'd rather hit more for slightly less dmg)

As I said this build is mostly for soloing. Potion during battle or if raged, wand whip between rages/battles. Plan to swap favored enemies as I progress levels (reptile-> goblinoid-> giant-> undead and probably end up back at giant at 14).

Alert: Major weakness to this build are will saves (surprise!). Have to solo carefully and pick of casters/clerics from range (often while running in fear of being held).

Reason for posting this build is for any feedback and comparisons to the above posted THF option. Only at level 5 atm but had no trouble soloing harbor elite content (save kobold assault, too many casters and too low will save as of yet)
