View Full Version : I want to see more skin!

Dingo123
09-07-2007, 01:21 PM
Er, well, more skins anyway.

And what I mean by skins I mean by something other than the leather top and bottom that must be terribly uncomfortable for a "nude" character.

I would like to see pants, shirts, things of that nature.

And then I'd like a /showarmor off option.

Why?

Well, mostly for Sorcs/Wizards and Rogues... but it would be acceptable for others, especially dex based fighters and rogues. Or even a barbarian possibly.

The essence of it is that it allows us a great deal of freedom in how our character looks, and that will certainly increase our "attachment" to those characters.

If I could put an Evocation Sorceror in a red tunic with black pants I'd think it'd be much cooler than running around in a dress.

However, armor will go over these new skins and so a /showarmor off option would allow us to show off our designed skins and go from there.

It's not a dress, it's a robe. Also, in a lot of areas the style and intricacies of a caster's robes helps you recognize their level of accomplishment within their chosen arts.

clothes have been asked for many times, as many dex based characters having to wear robes and RPers hate wearing armor while sitting down in the tavern. It looks like we will have to wait till monks to get anything that resembles non armor that isnt a dress.

But congrats Dingo a well thought out idea

If I could design my clothing look I'd be all for a /showarmor off command. One of the things I always liked about CoH is that you would see some nice looking costumes and could design your own "look". I have won numerous costume contests in CoH.

Yes, agree completely.

Just got my Way of the Assassin Rogue to 10th level.
Since his DEX is over 30, no armor is worth it, and he ends up using robes (Moble of Spell Resistance his current "casual wear.")

Now...how much street cred is a fearsome Assassin character going to generate by sneaking through the shadows on the way to his next kill  all dolled-up in a freakin' light blue dress?

If you are wearing armor it should show up. (Even though I use the /showhelmet off at times, it shouldn't be allowed either)

If anything we should also be seeing the boots, cloaks, etc, that we also wear.

I do think it would be a good idea to provide the option to create some robe equivilent clothing.

Alright Dingo! Here is something I can get behind!!!

Thought out, benefits just about everyone, and posted pretty well to boot!

I would not mind having the ability to have clothes for my characters that wear them, ie casters. IMO, lil silly for a FP wearing tank to be walking about in pants and a shirt, but hey, each his own.

And I'll second the suggestion for showable Cloaks!

Clothes would be nice, and a bunch of facial expressions as suggested by Yvonne would be good too!

Maybe they could be settable through the emote commands like /smile, /frown, /mean, /angry or to reset to the current state for male characters /constipated.

They'd set your face until you cancel or do another one

So...here's another angle to look at this from:

You're discussing various types of clothing to be worn under, or maybe even over armor, or shown in place of armor. And it was also mentioned not nudity or anything more revealing, just variety.

Well if that's the case, are you expecting them to start putting clothing on warforged? I hope not. The whole nudist aspect of warforged is one of my favorite things about them! Keep your stinkin clothes, I'm gonna go on streaking!

 :D

We definately need something to make us look different from each other, I have said elsewhere that this is one of the major downers about this game.

Customization is something that benefits everyone I think the OP has a good idea and at least its somewhere to start. I pretty much play warforged so clothes don't do me much good but I'm all for ANY form of customization of avatars. Sliders, colors, cloaks, boots, more base skins and meshes. Anything would help.

Rragnaar

This is a good idea and I agree with it.

As for Warforged wearing clothes, if that doesn't happen at least give them more docent style options, especially mithral and adamantine forms.

this idea is OOLD. I think we asked for more item and armor designs right around Mod 1. I would like to see a pair of pants and tunic on my rogue, instead of a purple dress with shoulder pads.

I think, but I'm not sure... that it's a new implementation of an old idea.

I don't recall ever reading someone saying use the basic skin as the font of clothing, with a show armor off option.

All my casters are elves so I get arcane fludity. Sure the ac isn't going to help me, but at least I don't wear a dress.

What i always wondered was why the robes and armor are so uniform. They could have robes for different sexes, ones that are more masculine, others more feminine, rather than the uni-sex predictability we currently find.

Would it be that hard to have a few guys design some new models that were different, maybe showed some skin, some legs, some arms, etc... Then armor is labeled as (M)ale (F)emale (U)nisex. Which would only encourage trading armors between players. Furthermore you could have a NPC who would turn your armor into the opposite equivilent if you had male or female and wanted to change, for a price of course.

But we still dont have a /showhelm off option.

I think if we get thongs then they should be gender specific ( we have racially sensitive items, why not gender sensitve) because who wants to see a male dwarven fighter in a thong? (a good thong might still be useable by a male charecter with a high umd--oh thank the treasure gods for umd so that my male elven bard might be able to wear a thong of the magi)

QFT. Unless they had a free dying system, to change the colors to match.
EQ2 just introduced a system to combat that.

You've got an Equip page, and an Appearance page. Put an item on the Appearance page slot, BAM, you get that displayed on you. You're not wearing it, though. Put an item on the Equip page slot, BAM, you're recieving its stats, and if you don't have an item in the Appearance page slot, you're displaying it too. If you do have something in the Appearance page slot, you're still displaying A but getting B's benefits.

I like that system a lot.

A NWN type of Armor editing program would be nice, where you can detail combinations of shoulder, chest, leggings, boots, etc for your armor.

That would be a lot of fun, and satisfy me for a while, seeing what looked the best.
