Okay the swimming portion the crucible, how exactly are you suppose to do that? My party had a virtual party whipe trying to get through there, because of the time we simply gave up , the only person who could swim through was the Rogue and he was unable to deal with the monsters on the other end. I knowthere has to be a trick to swiming through there. So what is it?

Thank you for any help.

An old trick is to make sure the rogue has a umd high enough to use raise dead scrolls. Have a few volunteers kill themselves before the rogue makes the swim and have the rogue carry the stones down to the horn and raise dead. To leave there is another way to swim out once you have the horn, or I just DDoor out.

I predict alot of people drowining themselfs after the /death change in Mod5 :D. though you may have to wait awhile for the WF to drown :D

It will take some time and XP debt. but I now can get all my toons through the water to both the chest and the horn, You will learn when to go left, right up down ect.. having a high Dex and Con also help,
Getting a caster through works great, Good Luck.

Well I thought of that, but I play in a static party and the rogue does NOT have a UMD high enough to use RD scrolls. There has to be another trick, becasue everyone says how "Easy" the Crucible is, and I know that swimming through there is not easy.

Does the secret door valve shut down the current for the whole area, we figured the rogue could swim to the valve and just sit by it turnning the thing over and over while other members went through. Any other choices?

Well the characters with a high dex and high con still got skewered. THis is annoying at best, one my party has this thing under our belts i doubt we will do it agian, simply because this part is such a pain in the butt. Unless there is indeed a way to do it without repeated tpk's.

The rogue should be able to make the swim with no problem (due to evasion) so just have him get to the end alone, all other party members wait next to the door. Just buff up the rogue with extended buffs that will still be there when he finishes the swim (most important is freedom of movement so he doesn't get held or slowed in sleet storm).

When he finishes the swim, he heals himself up if he took any damage, sneaks, use backspace to select the horn, run in hit "u" to grab it and run away into the water and just swim back. He doesn't have to fight them.

Easy can be a very deceiving relative term. Is it easy compared to Madstone, in many ways, yes. It does require a very different subset of skills from many other quests. Think PIT in the Giant Hold. Massive puzzle solving, some fights (but nothing too hard) and a lot of Mario brothers compared to many quests.

As for the swim. One key is that you can heal yourself with Potions while underwater even if you cannot cast spells. There are elevations in the water stream where the current is not as strong. The blades do not spin continously, but require spelling timing. My Paladin and Ranger have both made it through, one with Evasion, the other without.

Plenty of cure Serious Pots. My Paladin saved all the time, but still took half damage and needed to heal up between propellers. Most of the time people try to swim it too fast and end up in trouble. Take off your armor and SHIELD and put on a swim boost if you have it. The rogue suggestion is perhaps the easiest one to actually do, BUT, the rogue does need to be in full sneak mode at the end. I have not seen a rogue yet who could survive in the final room if they got into a fight and get the Horn. If you get two in there, then you can probably take the gnolls down with some teamwork and ranged attacks or spells (depending on what types make it to the room.)

What usually helps for me is not actually swimming forward. Let the current take you and you just dodge the spikes. Practice will make you better at it, as it does with all things.

The quest is most definitely not easy. It is if you have done it 100 times, then yes, it is easy. Takes practice and a bunch of Cure Serious Potions.

I have a buddy that does Crucible all the time....elite even. He can do it pretty quick, but the first time we did it? We did it as a guild the day it opened on normal and it took us 4 hours. My buddy actually liked the quest even after the 4 hour ordeal and chose to map out the maze while we were there. He came to really like the quest.

Oh that is important too. It helps if you like the quest. Cause to learn it, you are going to have to run it a lot.

all my toons can make this swim without a single pot, sometimes i do hit a spike or two, but rarely, my squishy 98 hp cleric can make the swim....

it just takes practice.......everytime i run this quest, it seems i am the only person who can make the swim, ever so often someone else can make it aswell

so go practice!

Without the "cheats" the best way is to drag the mobs to the end of the water line (there is a ledge you can stand on safely) and buff up, haste etc.. and run for the horn. You can enough running room to do it.

Get a jump/haste/pro pot and run run run.

Go to the quest, make it to that part, start learning.

1. if you die, don't release or wait here doing nothing. Practice your swim as a ghost, it will help you in your further attempts.

2. at the very first fan, go through the hole at the top left corner, so you will avoid the slashing damage

3. push the backwards key when swimming to swim slower

4. don't take risks and don't hesitate to swim against the current for a few seconds to make sure you're really at the very left/right/top/bottom of the tunnel (depending on what spikes you're trying to avoid). People who die are usually just trying to do it too fast.

5. use potions as soon as you're hit to get full HPs again (you can do that while swimming against the current)

6. the trickiest part is actually (IMHO) after the valve. So stop at the valve (there is no current here) and make sure you have full HPs. Then swim to the left and STOP right under the entrance to the next spike passage, at the very bottom of the floor. Swim against the current (towards the spinning fan on the other side of the room) to stay at this position until the current stops (the fan stops every now and then). As soon as the current stop, turn back and swim through the spikes (it's much easier than when the current is carrying you). You're through! :)

Assign a party member to use the valve that opens the wall behind the fan to the hidden room. Since it turns off the fan at the same time, it really helps your party members swimming to get the key. You can start turning it before it completely resets so there's very little time the fan is actually 'on'. Also, go along the bottom for most of it. You'll go slowly and regularly get caught on the bottom, which lets you relax, heal up, etc...just remember where the up/down portion of it is!

I believe there's also a valve at the beginning to turn off the fan right below where you first jump down into the water. A rogue can easily get in there and turn it off while non-evasion types swim through the first part (to the next fan and valve).

First off practice on Norm... Much easier to survive even if you hit the spikes.

I can make the swim on 3 level 14 toons with no evasion (clr, sorc, ftr).

Make sure you have a UWA and +10 Swim item. The swim item isn't necessary for some but will help with swimming against the current. Get GH before you swim as well. Once your swim is over 20 you can swim against the current pretty well.

For the swim I find it easiest to swim on you back against the current and navigate that way. It is kinda tricky to learn to do at first but if you move you camera angle out a little it lets you see where you are in relation to the spikes. Until you learn it then you can speed through it swimming forward. Remember if you get your swim up swimming forward with the currently will be lightning fast.

I usually do the swim on my sorcerer, and everyone else waits at the door. I do it exactly like Dharma does...

Try to buff up to a 15 swim (it helps a ton with the current), and swim backwards against the current while dodging spikes. It really slows down and gives you plenty of time to drink pots if you happen to get hit. Stoneskin helps too.

Before long you'll be whipping through it on Elite without batting an eye.

/death isn't the only way to die by yourself...

serious, just bring potions. and drink the potions when hit. and don't move after take hit.

After you make it through the first fan, go straight down to the bottom to avoid the spikes. There will be a couple of walls that you will need to make it over, just go up and down quick and heal up anytime you take damage. There are rocks on the bottom that you can stop behind if you need to chug pots before continuing on.

Once your rogue makes it to the mob .. a high sneak (50ish is plenty) is sufficient enough to grab both key and horn. Someone must make the Intimi and Diplo checks at beginnig of quest to ensure the gnoll closest to the key is sickly and the key is lying to the left(nearly underneath the sick gnoll) of the altar!!! I believe..can't quite remember.. that the second time you talk to Dagger Dude (he's a Gnoll) is the check you need to make this happen. Sneaking the right edge will get you the key. The horn is a bit trickier. If you try to grab it from the key position..it will say its "blocked". I find it is easiest to just have the horn in your window...unstealth for a quick grab and go. That mob can be tough if faced alone and there is no sense in trying to beat um .. just a waste of time imho. Have party members stay away from the wall nearest the horn area (if they are waiting for chest)..sometimes the mob picks up on them and seems to aggro you easier. May be my imagination .. but I have run that quest many..many .. many times. As far as the swim...just need to do it a few times. Make sure you are constantly moving backwards to slow your progress...if you go with the current...your most certain to slam into the spikes. Good luck and have fun :)
