Hey peoples.

Quick Q, whats the best way to ensure Knock works? Is there any way to make it useful till the endgame?
Some enhancements or focus?
Items that work with it?

Thanks!

Get a Rogue :-p

Well I believe it just adds Points to Open Lock. Soan Open Lock Item may add to it. Never tested it out though.

But I do know at High Levels on Elite a ROgue is alot more reliable then a Knock Spell.

Knock is Transmutation School so Transmutation Focus/Greater Transmutation Focus/Transmutation Bonus item would boost it but other than that I believe the formula is..

1d20 + Your Level + Intel Bonus

...so there is little else to do other than get smarter

I'm not very well versed in wizardy things, but would Heighten work? Or is that just to overcome spell resistance?

Well you have to remeber knock spell is only a level 2 spell and with alot of chests and doors the DC is so high there might be some that you will not be able to do.

On my halfling wizard she has a 32 Int and can knock just about anything in the gianthold except a few things. Most of the time you have to roll a 19 or 20 to get it. I try a few times and if not the party moves on. Heighten I believe adds to it and might help but still might not open. If they had maybe a higher level knock that would work. Same applies for wands.. They most of the time don't work on high level stuff. I had a 10th level knock wand and couldn't open alot of things even with a 19 or a 20..

I would say do what you can to boost your Int and look to see what kind of spell focus it is and get a item to boost it. Maybe get the spell focus feat aswell.. I do not have either and manage a +25 bonus added to my knock. I can knock the door in Troll caves where the Queen Archanid is at. I have been in many groups that the caster could not do it..

I have been in many groups that the caster could not do it..Transmutation Focus items do not help Knock. From that, I assume that Spell Focus:Transumation feats will also not help Knock. But, I think they should. Knock is a modified DC, but a DC nonetheless. Imagine if Banishment could not be boosted with Abjuration Focus because it was a modified DC! (not true. it can be boosted. just imagine. ;) )

Well I bought a transmutation item in hopes of added to my knock skill and nada.. Which to me is totally lame but that is how it is.. So I have to the conclusion that the only true way to add to your knock skill is get your Int as high as you can get it. That is the only way I see how to improve your knock skill.

So don't waste your money or feats trying to improve knock cause you'll do nothing but waste money...

knock should open any lock, period end, of story. If rogue feel left out actually trap doors and trap more chest. knock should always work.

As for how it has been implimeted--- no your screwed. if it makes you feel any better, I feel your pain.

Well, after reading the fact that knock doesn't get boosted by transmutation focuses, I guess that means spellsinger is out of the question then too.

The formula for Knock used in DDO is 1d20 + Caster Level + Casting Stat vs. Open Lock DC.

Yeah, in PnP Knock works automatically but it should be pretty obvious why it doesn't work that way in DDO.

It is, because Wizards have been gimpred beyond reason in DDO. I mean that is who this is hitting right, not many sorceres are going to run around with knock, so this is just a big middle finger to wizards, and don't talk about scrolls because the could just not sell knock as a scroll and that would not be a problem. ( You could still have knock scrolls as treasure). I find the fact that knock is not Knock in DDO bad enough, but that combined with locks with over a 40 DC ( which is an AMAZING lock in D&D) and no way to boost your check, even with GH Competance bonus from Bards etc is absolutly absurd. If one is worried about rogues feeling useful ACTUALLY TRAP DOORS! Better yet, have doors randomly traped. I cannot think of a single door which is traped in a PnP sense in the whole game. That would make Rogues still feel needed without making knock useless.

I could just imagine the uproar from rogues if knock worked automatically... gotta make those itty bitty wogues feel useful somehow :D

As for randomly trapped doors, I send in the ranger with evasion to be the guinea pig :)
