before i bug report this, is there any good reason that cometfall bypasses stoneskin DR? adamantium comet or something?

Other than being damage from a spell, no.

So yeah, Stoneskin probably should stop any weapon typed damage from spells (Blade Barrier:Slashing, Cometfall/Ice Storm: Bludgeoning).

Doesn't Cometfall explicitly do Bludgeoning damage? It's not 'magical' damage, per se, so theoretically Stoneskin should work against it.

It might seem so, but DDO is being very true to form for PnP on this one.

PnP DR Explanation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#damageReduction)

namely this part
The creature takes normal damage from energy attacks (even nonmagical ones), spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities.

And since the DR given is in no way special, it just doesn't stop these type of Spell Damages.

So some spells like 'Blade Barrier' might seem reasonable to be effected by DR they just aren't. They don't roll to hit, they have saving throws to reduce damage or SR to avoid. And many of them can use 'Resist Energy' a sort of Energy DR.

So while I understand your wondering, Turbine is hitting the mark on this one.

so i assume that blade barrier, ice storm and the like are treated similarly?

however, i can see this is going to get tricky.

can a flame arrow bypass all DR since it is a spell and not a projectile? how about the holy sword spell?

can a flame arrow bypass all DR since it is a spell and not a projectile? how about the holy sword spell? No, those spells enchant a physical weapon and physical damage from that weapon can be blocked. The Flaming and Holy portions damage you normally.
