Nasty Forum

This Server forum does not seem to be a very friendly environment. I was looking forward to finally having a Net connection (finally getting ADSL on the 29th) that allowed me to play and meet the new people of Argonnessian. At first I read the Argo forums and saw the teasing of people that looked like how it was back on Mabar. However if the forums are any indication of what the server is like I think I may just stick to running with people and guilds from Mabar. Is everyone mean Spirited on Argo or am I just missing the intended humor in all the negative (posts that get locked out for bad/mean behavior) posts on the forum?

So I will probably be flamed by the trolls but I am just wondering if anyone on Argo is funny and nice, or are they just "funny" at other peoples expense?

When the merge happened, there were lots of postings from former Mabarians and veteran Argo's alike but slowly any time a Mabarian makes a post that goes contrary to what the forum voices of Argo think it becomes a gang up riddicle session that oftem ends in threads being locked, and people from Mabar no longer seem to make many posts. Even Yaga hasnt told anyone to "Eff Off" in a while and he was quite dynamic on the old Mabar forum.
Anyways I hope I am wrong and either not getting the intended Argo humor, or that there are some nice folks out there that are open minded.

As a side note maybe some of the forum Ubers here on Argo could post a list of rules and etiquette for this server forum so the unwritten rules can be written and made know to us unworthy hicks from Mabar. That way we wont offend anyone with our ignorance and wont have to be beat down or be forced to kiss @$$ like a few former Mabarians have done to try and fit in.

I dont want a flame war, but if you feel you must, all I ask is that it be witty. I can take the heat if it is intelligent, in fact some of the best ingame alliances I have made have started from a witty well timed flame post.

Y'see my evil mum makes me have the speakers on so that she can hear while I play, so foul language is a no-no, my evil brethren. Do you think the language would be ok?" - See.....

Just a few examples of "yes! we do have a bit of fun" the only forum rules I know about is don't cheat your fellow gamers. if your willing to give it be willing to take it.

Some people just haven't gotten out of their mothers basements in the last 15 years and have no social interaction skills and therefore take everything way too seriously. Which is fun in it's own way, but in game most people are pretty chill, most of the people that some might call "nasty", myself included, on the forums are pretty relaxed and a good time to play with in game.

I agree forums are for amusement. The question is, who's amusement? Its funny as all get out when my friends mock/flame/tease me, however if I have never grouped or had a significant forum interaction with someone and they start blasting with both barrels its usually not intended as fun. Fun is the excuse usually given when someone says something offensive about someone else that they have not "earned" (cant think of a better word), either through comraderie or respected rivalry, the right to say.

An example of a rivalry is way back when I was a noob and my guild Elite By Nature (of which I was not a member at the time because I was more NOOB by Nature;)) and the guild called "Ransacked" were the first guilds to beat Velah on elite on MABAR. These guilds when back and forth with each other and it was very entertaining to watch.

Most of the Humor was self-depricating or totally outrageous which was what made it funny. Calling an entire server Noobs because they use different tactics is not funny its just rude (even if it is true).

All of the posts to this point have been civil and/or funny. This is the best part of the forums which to me are an important addition to playing DDO (especially when my frikkin ISP has to rewire my house and I have to wait for highspeed service and I have to steal unsecured wireless internet service from my unsuspecting neighbours just to use the forums:D )

It takes some getting used to but really the people here have been some of the best I have met. We have fun but if you get down to something serious we are very helpfull. So just have some fun and don't take everything at face value.

The thing is that MABAR was a tiny server and I was very active on MABAR's forum thus am familiar with a strong majority of the population (both forum and server proper). Its the lack of forum postings by formerly active people from Mabar that have been ganked after posting on the Argo forum that lead to my original post. Of course not all Argo's are to blame, nor are all former Mabarian's innocent, I just figured I would shake the bushes in hopes of drawing out the best of Argonessian and not just the circling forum buzzards. (not calling you a buzzard Lews:D )

I seem to remember some Mabarians coming up with some posts where they overreacted to the response, once few people came in to support them. I don't remember anybody being exceedingly nasty.

I think the nastiness your refering to was probibly involving a single person vs the rest of the forum. And my basic understanding of it was that hewas being really annoying to everyone and when some people started anoying back he called everyone names.

everyone here that I've played with is nice (except Lessah):D . Its a bit easier to find a group then on mabar as there usally isn't the shortage of support toons (clerics, rogues, bards).

Yeah, for the most part - at least from my knothole - I usually post on the forums mean and nasty when I've had a meeting or something at work and I can't just yell and scream at the guberment guy. So, I come on here, talk some trash talk, and when I get in game... do it all again!

It's true, we act mean and tough, but on a whole the Argo people are very helpful and as long as - in game - you can play, take a joke, and just enjoy things, then no problems.

Forums... well, that's when the boredom comes out and plays - and the more blood, the more spectators.

One thing that is amazingly fun about Argo is the people who role play their characters on the forums. They shouldn't upset you any more than any other encounter in Stormreach. In fact, they are an added value!

Perhaps I haven't ran with enough Tinted Faces folks. The couple I have quested with were excellent and helpful players. If I weren't already in a great guild, I would be trying to find a way to join them. The same is true of most people who I have met on Argo.

I agree with you Davey noone wants to carry one a forum fight while trying to play the game, I had never thought of it that way before. I dont think I have ever seen it happen except once when a part time member of my guild picked a fight with another guild and as the only officer online I was asked to talk to my guildy in an official capacity.

It's more of a server persona thing I guess because in game actions reported on the forums or in some cases getting on people's nerves on the Mabar forums could, and in some cases did, lead to black listing... Since the server was fairly small and most the folks who'd been playing for a couple years knew one another black lists tended to be shared etc...

In your example I'd guess that many from Mabar haven't seen Wanderlei Silva in game to determine whether he can play and thus they can only base what they think of him or her from the forums....

I believe he was being metaphorical, as Wanderlei Silva is a brazilian mixed martial artists that failed in the UFC, and moved on to dominate Pride FC for many years. Known as the 'Axe Murderer', he fights with malicious intent. I don't recall having ever seen a Wanderlei in-game, thus the metaphorical assumption on Trash's behalf.

Wanderlei recently signed with the UFC (know that they have purchased Pride FC), and will be fighting on US PPVs very soon. Be sure to catch him, or visit good ol' youtube for some clips.

Argo forum playin and DDO playin are totally different games. There are more of us Argonessen's than Mabarians so that might be the lack of participation you see a little in the forums. Testing the waters a bit, seeing how the sharks swim, etc....

First off, for Jond, F U Argonnessen!

Sorry everyone that has been looking for me, I have been SWAMPED at work and even if I have time to read the forums, I don't have enough to actually reply to any posts.

So far I've found most of the non-Mabarian people to be pretty nice and fun. In fact, Qazpe joined the Argonauts so I could meet more of the other guild leaders on Argo but we haven't been able to quest together yet because Q was a higher level (hopefully you guys have caught up so I can join in on Tuesday!).

I will say that pvp is a little bit different than it was on Mabar, and that the pugs that I have been in (all 3 of them) were a little different than I'm used to but for the most part I would have to say that I'm actually enjoying the merge.

There are a few people that are complete a**holes but I'm sure they say that about me too so we're even.

Im from argo and just recently started usein the forums a bit for trades and such. I would agree most people on these forums are definate ********.No respect from anyone and select few do what they can to push your buttons.Will I stop usein the forums? The way I look at it, as long as you keep it clean you come out unscathed. In the months since Chuck has gone and come back I have verbally fenced with many an individual here on the forums, and I'll tell you that there are certain disclaimers that are expected when partaking in such activities.

For example, a tongue-in-cheek insult is expected to come along with a ':rolleyes: ' or a ':D ' or similar. Or denoted with /sarcasm on, or something to that nature.

Jokes and sarcasm are not considered by the devs unless denoted by these types of things. If it resembles an insult and is not followed with such a disclaimer, the mods tend to lean toward handing out infractions for insults.

I have nothing against Mr. Norris, and no hard feelings. I haven't ever considered reporting him for anything he's said, for the simple reason that I understand that it's a joke. However, you must remember that sarcasm and jokes are not the assumed language of the forums.

This Server forum does not seem to be a very friendly environment. I was looking forward to finally having a Net connection (finally getting ADSL on the 29th) that allowed me to play and meet the new people of Argonnessian. At first I read the Argo forums and saw the teasing of people that looked like how it was back on Mabar. However if the forums are any indication of what the server is like I think I may just stick to running with people and guilds from Mabar. Is everyone mean Spirited on Argo or am I just missing the intended humor in all the negative (posts that get locked out for bad/mean behavior) posts on the forum?
