From Sigtrent's Build Request Thread (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=117232)

Build Name: Monster Baiter
Author: Sigfried Trent
Requester: Shmuel
Last Updated:06/30/10

Key Words [Warforged, Tank, Stalwart Defender]

Objectives
The requster wanted a well rounded tank with good HP, AC, DR, which does not require mithral armor or other bits of exotic equipment. Having recently made a number of dwarven tanks I decided to go Warforged, especially since mithral armor really isn’t an issue unless you spend a feat on it. Warforged don’t always have stellar saves, but they are immune to a great many things other tanks must save agaisnt.

Design
In the original I went with a paladin/fighter as it mixed the best defensive bonuses available. For this update Stalwart Defender seems the way to go and it leaves little room for multi classing if you really want to max it out. I think pure fighter is great for Warforged as all the feats help offset whatever you need to pick up feat wise.

Like dwarven builds, warforged lends well to a THF / Sword and board switch build and fighter accommodates that well.

Play
This is a fairly straight forward intim tank. You can also wade into combat with a greatsword and do very solid DPS. Even when not tanking, intim is great for pulling in monsters so you don’t need to chase them down. With no glancing blows while moving, that may be your best DPS option in most cases. Pin and kill.

Variations
I don’t see a lot of other directions to go with theis build. 28pts could be done but it would require sacrifice on charisma and strength to get the int target you need for CE, especially without the tomes.

Thanks a lot for the help sigtrent!
I'll have to study this build a bit but it has some terrific ideas and reallly is much better than the stuff I'd come up with myself. Keep up the good work!

If you don't mind my asking, what would the benefits/consequences be, in your mind, of doing a nearly similar build with a dwarf rather than warforged? Just curious.

If you don't mind my asking, what would the benefits/consequences be, in your mind, of doing a nearly similar build with a dwarf rather than warforged? Just curious.

I think the main thing is that the dwarf could have a better offensive set up because they need to invest a bit less in feats and stat points to achieve the same defensive profile. The dwarf would have 2pts more AC and a bit better will and reflex saves, but they would not have the 7pts of standing DR the WF does nor enjoy the early game immunities (although at high levels the immunities are made mostly irrellivent by your excelent saving throws). WF also have some equipment advantages in that you can change out docents instantly and only need a mod fort item for full fortification. (mod forts are much easier to get than full fort)

So WF is the better DR choice but dwarf is better for AC and offense potential.

I think one of the later requests is for a max AC character which will likely be a very tank oriented dwarf build. You can also find a fair number of high AC dwarf builds in the palladin and fighter forums to compare. (and that is one of the reasons I built it as a WF)

I picked up on this while reading the thread and have to ask (forgive me being a newbie) - but from what your saying that means that fort items stack?? Or do they just stack with a WF's inherent fortification?

They stack with the wf's inherent fort.

They only stack with the WF inherent fortification. Just one of the many little WF perks.

How would you change/update this build for 28pt and the level cap to going up to 16?

Thanks!
