[Competition] Filking Fun!

Ok, so it's been a while since we had a fun competition here on Sarlona (and I really enjoyed the Story Contest!) so I thought it was high time we had another. Though this time, something a little different. FILKS!

What is a filk, you may ask? Well, according to dictionary.com: '/filk/ n.,v. [from SF fandom, where a typo for `folk' was adopted as a new word] A popular or folk song with lyrics revised or completely new lyrics and/or music, intended for humorous effect when read, and/or to be sung late at night at SF conventions.'

That's right, folks - you get to reword your favourite song! But not just anyhow - for the purposes of this competition your Filk needs a few things:
1) DDO theme!
2) It must include Sarlona in it
3) Reference to some of the things our wonderful server is famous for

Now, remember to keep it clean (or at least PG), cite your original song in your entry so we know which tune to sing it to, and above all have fun with it!

I'll leave the competition open for one month from today, with voting lasting the following week. Everyone will have one vote, so choose your favourite carefully! I have a few things collected that may be useful for prizes and will happily accept pledges and donations to put toward prize packs (I'll keep this thread updated with prizes as they're donated, and please PM me if you'd like to donate something!)

After pulling my first ever +1 tome in Gwylans today, I now have a decent selection of prizes for this competition:

Current Prize List:

For 3rd prize I was thinking perhaps a selection of dragonshards of all levels (I can supply the flawed and imperfect, but I don't have a siberys). Any other suggestions?

Um, I'm not sure I understand your meaning. If you mean why am I only asking on Sarlona, it's because prizes can't be transferred to other servers. If you mean why did I focus my filk on roleplay, it's because it's one of the things our server is known for. If it's because not everyone reads the forums, well there's nothing much I can do about that. If it's none of the above, I'm sorry but you've lost me.

Um, I'm not sure I understand your meaning. If you mean why am I only asking on Sarlona, it's because prizes can't be transferred to other servers. What I meant is that the servers just recently merged. That has given 2/3rds of the player base barely anytime to really get to know any of the Sarlona players, not to mention it has given barely anytime for some new "famous" references to emerge.

It would be pretty hard for someone from Aerenal or Adar, who has never played on Sarlona, to join in this competition because they don't know much about Sarlona.

Having come from Adar myself I can honestly say that I have no idea what Sarlona is famous for nor would I be able to reference any said events or people with any confidence thus that pretty much would eliminate me from being able to enter if I were so inclined.

Thats the point I as trying to make. I have no problem with the contest as I think contests can be a lot of fun but I think it might be a bit soon to have the sort that requires a background of having played here for several months.

What he said! This is meant to be a server-unifying event. No time to get to know Sarlona players? YOU are Sarlona players! We all live on Sarlona now, and I had hoped that those previously of Aerenal and Adar would join in with little bits about what they are known for also - as we're all in this together now. I sure wish Turbine had renamed the merged server to something completely different - then we wouldn't have these issues I reckon.

You're more than welcome to put Stormreach references in, but I was really hoping to get some more Sarlona-specific references in (such as Kargon and other key figures, the RP aspect, prominent guilds, etc.) Of course, no reason you can't have both - my own filk above was focussed on game play and RP, so *shrugs*

I'm back! Took a little longer than I'd hoped since I had a rush trip out of town to worry about as well, but I am resubscribed and active again. Shame to see there hasn't been any more submissions here, though :( Come on guys and girls, set your sights on those prizes!
