View Full Version : How about an area where general chat trade is ok?

I see all of the threads about LFM trade violations, and was thinking of a good place to go, where general chat trade staments can be made, and no one would get mad.
I originally thought the House P theatre area 9Where Gwylan's Stand adventure is) would make a nice flea market, but the general chat spam might perturb some players going to and from Threnal, and other adventures in there.
But then I thought of a great place, the main tent!
What better place to shout out what you want to trade, than in the marketplace tent. it is a seperate chat channel than the marketplace proper, and when you go in the tent, you are obviously looking to buy or sell stuff.
Up until now, it's been PvE buying and selling, but why can't it start to be a place where you stand around, and proclaim what you have for sale/trade, or what you are looking for?
I have seen some people doing it already, but I don't think it has been proclaimed a staple for this (yet)
What do you all think?

I didn't know that hawking your wares in the Gen Chat channel was a violation. Is it?
I don't do it but, I remember when the Rusty Nail was the place to go if you needed anything :)
Not a bad idea....

good idea - i believe someone also mentioned "the twelve" area as well, that would be very exculsive considering there is nothing to do in the twelve.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a GM comment in the past that did say the Marketplace Tent is where you are supposed to do trade/sell/buy chat.
Although I see that kind of thing all the time in Gianthold however, and haven't heard of anyone getting dinged over it yet.

...But how about a trades chat channel. It's done in other games and it seems a lot simpler than trying to decide which area to designate a spammer's delight... I mean a trading/barter area. :D

/signed. This idea has been brought up before, and it's a good idea. I think using the general chat in the marketplace tent is a great idea for selling/trading items.
If I'm for it someone will be against it, so I'm against it. Only way I want to hear someone talking about thier loots is if its something I want, and can afford. To often I want something and I cannot afford it, or the deal is so one sided its not worth considering. Most the time though its just junk and I have no use for it. So I'm against it. At least that is what I'm thinking at the moment give me five minuites..

OMG Litz, you are a nut :p
But you bring up a good point.
Lets put all of these shouts in an area where it is known for market activity, lets put it in place easily accessible by 95% of the community, and lets make it well enough known, that all of those shouting in other areas (GH, House P, etc) know where they SHOULD go to get results.
If they are in an area where people know what is going on, they shouldn't be mad, rather happy they aren't shouting it in the harbor, GH, market, etc.
This is a solution until they develop a trade channel, whenever that will be.
Unfortunately hearing about all of the stuff you don't want in order to hear what you do want, is the nature of the beast, but at least you can walk out of th etent, and magically the shouts are gone
I say implement it Turbine please

i'm sure that using comments is not illegal. i've also seen players using GC for trades and nothing came upon them. the only thing is the traders need to control their posting. 1 trade chat every 10-20 min sounds fine but 1 every second (by using the up button) is considered spamming and can be reported for harassment

Great idea to do it in the market place. Maybe on one of the upper level platforms is where they could meet, so as not to interfere with traffic in and out of the market?
On another note, it was nice to meet you at at Gencon Mtmouse3. I was the Khyber player sitting at the table by you. As a guild leader, you set a very good example for your guild to follow.

we have general chat, officer chat, guild chat.
Why not have a chat window server wide that you could open or close that was just trading chat? one that limited you to one post every 30sec, so you're not spamming to much. with the box open you see something you like, you just click on the posters name and then you can send them a tell.

Reminds me of the cave to Oasis in EQ :) The market place sounds great and a side benifit the added traffic will keep items on the brokers longer.

only make sense to go where the people are. but lets say you can only spam once every 30 seconds or so. cause i really don't want to see trading for scales sixthousand times.
I've seen this in other games and i don't think it would work in DDO. Because of all the specialization of the weapons it would be nearly impossible to Trade. Imagine 50 ppl yelling trading stuff:
Kire: +3 Flaming burst scimi of Maiming!!!
Aspenor: +3 flaming burst scimi of power I!!!
ok im not gonna type that much but with the scroll going extremely fast you could be reading my statement and accidently continue onto aspenor's and think my scimi is og power I. whooo that was crazy to explain. I think a LFT system would be good. in the social panel make a tab for trading where you put up Trade messages that look exactly like LFMs. lot simplier IMO.
They already have the coding for this down. so wouldnt be so hard to program in i dont think.

DISCLAIMER: i do not code, have never learned to code, nor never plan to learn. The statement about coding is just speculation. I do not know the extent of the coding

I understand what you are saying Kire, at the extreme, where everyone is spamming the general chat with their items/questions, it would be a scrolling nightmare.
But for the time being (until a LFT tab is developed) I don't think it would ever get that bad.
The most general chat spamming I see is in GH, and it barely beats out all of the /emotes people are doing, so it's not bad at all.
even at 10X more, it would still be ledgible, and able to be responded too in the marketplace tent.
I personally would only go to the tent to hear offers, as I do most of my trading through the forums or the AH.
I still think it is a good temporary solution, until and LFT/WTT panel is added to teh UI.
Sincerely,
