So I'm thinking about deleting Iathenu, my original elven ranger/rogue character, and rolling up a new ranger/rogue to replace her - fixing all the mistakes I made when I built her (and didn't know what I was doing), as well as starting with a 32 pt build instead of 28.

My question is this. Can anyone give me a build reason to go elf again instead of making her drow?

You can't make a 32 point Drow.

Depends.

If you are gonna be ranged focused, the racial enhancements for elves with bows are nice.

If melee focused, if you are going weapon finesse and Dex-based, drow shortsword and rapier enhancements are nice there. If you are mixing it up between Str and Dex ( even or close ) with no weapon finessee, or wanna go melee slashing, then I would go elf.

As far as ability scores, there is really no difference between a 32 point elf and a drow. The bonuses drow get to Chr and Int only make a difference over the 4 extra build points of the elf if you plan on starting either of those scores over 14 base.

Duh...

My question was...IF I reroll my 28 pt build elf ranger/rogue...should I go

32 pt ELF
DROW

Not whether I can make something. I've been playing well long enough to know what I can and can't make. Read the question and you might come up with a MEANINGFUL answer.

Thank you for the thoughtful response.

I'm thinking about remaking her similar to what she is now - only better.

12 ranger/2 rogue. Dex-based bow user (I have a strength-based 2wf ranger already). 16 base intelligence. Charisma probably starting at 14.

Do you feel the elf bow enhancements outweigh the spell resistance (and enhancements) drow get?

No problem :)

IMHO yes they do. SR 19 is fairly easy to find on an item now, and since the enhancement change, drow rarely get their SR higher than this. I really don't think SR matters that much if you build for solid saves, just my opinion though.

The only reason I can think of comes down to weapon choices or in case you were thinking of getting dragon marked. Drow bonus is to Rapiers/Shortswords/Rapiers, elves bonuses are to Longswords/Rapiers/Longbows.
Honestly if you are dex based yea the bonus to bows is the only thing I would see that would influence this decision.

When I built my Elf Ranger, because I did not need the Charisma, I was actually able to get my stats higher on the 32 pt. Elf than the Drow.

EDIT: Lol...Talk about thread Necro! It was this old and still on the first page!
