o,k i was runnin pop with my cleric thats a lvl 12
party joins, yaddy, yaddy,
all is fine till we get to the maurut room
well anyway I ended up arguing with our caster cause he didnt want to go in
he insisted that a cleric wastin all his mana was better then a caster casting a maximized firewall.
so instead of talkin sense into this caster i decided what the hell go in while the caster pulled
So we all died cause there is no additional damage being delt by the caster
and maurut kept saving on smiting attempts
so then I tell the group lets do it the way im used to doing it
then some foolish pally starts callin me a scared (a) cleric
starts callin me a noob and all kinds of stupid stuff
so am i a scared (a) cleric? Or is the caster a noob? U decide and post ur answer
thanx for reading;)

The answer depends totally on the party makeup. I've seen POP done with 6 fighters, 6 casters, 6 clerics, 6 rangers or any mix of the above. Sound like you might have not have enough tankage in the marut room if you all died. Did the centurians spawn? - cos they hit HARD! :)

I believe that the Cleric is ALWAYS Right, lol.
I hope that the pally was just joshing with you, because I haven't met very many rude people in my time on Sarlona--probably because my 2 mains are clerics and even if uber people don't need clerics they still tend to be nice to them.
With any quest there are several different ways to satisfy the objectives, as Willphase pointed out. No one should give you a hard time for wanting to try it your way after the first way didn't turn out so hot. Oddly enough, my cleric pulls a few of the levers in pop, if people are well equipped a cleric isn't really needed to heal as much as toss Destructions, Slay Livings, and Banishments--and since casters can do this twice as fast as us, well, sometimes I just choose to pull levers and eat cookies.

Sorry to hijack the post but thinking of cookies and brood's sig reminds me of a good fortune I got recently:

Could have been that your whole group were noobs. You should be able to beat the Marut room with either a cleric or a caster. what you need to do is bring both the Cleric and caster and tell the ranger/bard/rogue to pull.

What was the end result? Where you able to complete pop? did you drop party? Or did the party dissolve? Did they try it your way? It all depends on party makeup but in most cases having a caster throwing an extended maximized firewall or 2 works most effeciently. Sounds like you were in a bad pug and leave it at that...

Next time take a screenshot of general chat and report him. Don't think of it as telling tales, more as making life easier for the rest of us :)

Next time tell them to heal themselves.
In my opinion, every Cleric should act like a Stalin. I mean, clerics get mistreated all the time. They should be dictators.

I believe that the Cleric is ALWAYS Right,
Blah Blah Blah...
so they get to eat cookies.
mmmmmmm cookies.......
I've seen alot of groups outright abuse their clerics in the same way mentioned above, on the other hand lately I've had some of the most generous groups heap gifts upon my little halfling in thanks for his healing efforts. It doesn't take a Kalashtar to guess which groups I'll go with again.
Manny's right too. There's nothing wrong with trying something new and 'potentially' better. Should it fail and others refuse to listen to the voice of reason, I believe your right in denying healing. I saw in a Bio once,
'As a cleric I can mend grievious wounds, remove fatal toxin's and diseases, dispell profane curses and even restore life to the dead. As powerful as I am I can't cure stupid....'

When I do PoP, I usually go in, no matter what character I am on.
Wizard? I go in. If it's the wights, I use Flesh to Stone, if not, Firewall. If I die, oh well. One death beats a party wipe. Even if I wasn't capped, I would rather have it that way.
Cleric? I go in, if wanted. Only spells I use in there are Heal and Cometfall, and I only use Cometfall if it's the wights. It does slow them down a little bit so the rest can deal with the Marut, and if it knocks him down too, all the better.
But, in my opinion, a cleric is less useful in there than a wiz/sorc that can throw down something to hurt or stop them (like Wall of Fire, Web, Flesh to Stone, etc.). Though every buff can help. Blur, Displacement, Recitation, anything to make your guys hit harder and get hit less.
It's been a long time since I've seen more than one die in that room.
But if that person was throwing insults, yeah, you should have taken a screenshot and reported him. There's no justification for throwing insults.

And if the tanks only hope is smiting there is also a problem. Anarchic weapons can tear it down witha quickness. Then people can focus on the undead.
And people that don't play them don't know clerics can only do about 50% of ther normal healing in there. This is very expensive if the room is not dealt with in the quickest way possible. I don't know if I would consider this cleric hate or person hate. Whoever the party leader is should decide how the room should be done. And other suggestions should be tendered by the rest of the party.
Ther is no excuse for being rude to anyone in this game. Just becasue you don't like what someone did does not mean you have the right to be abusive. Sounds like something people do in Junior high not as adults. You don't like person blacklist them and move on.

I think I may have heard the tail end of the general chat discussion..or whatever it was. There seemed to be a bit of back and forth in it if that was the case...perhaps I am mistaken. Regardless there are many ways to do PoP, I have done it with multiple party makeups.
In general my cleric goes in every room except the beholder one...sometimes even that one. When I am on my bard I pull the switch and eat cookies like Moops, except for the beholder room...now if only I could figure a way to always pull the switch and eat cookies...mmm.
Brood...you know you just have to see me about the cookies... told Angel I'd make him some soon...lol.

Heya,
Like others have said, these can be done with any combination of well played/well equiped chars np. But in a pug situation, esp if it is a 1 caster, 1 cleric, 4 melee group make up, the caster and cleric should go in all rooms, let a melee stay out, there is 4 of em after all, and the instant kills/crowdcontrol/massive dps generated by the caster and cleric is always there to make it easy. For some reason tho there are plenty of tanks out there that seem to think all a caster is good for is haste, and all a cleric is good for is heals and sometimes its pretty hard to talk em into staying out instead of a caster/cleric *grumbles*
Sux about that pally... people can be pretty mean to clerics sometimes, often any wipe is blamed on the cleric for not healing, even if you are spamming heals as fast as you can. Doesn't occur to some that they can watch their health too, and back off and drink pots if they are getting owned. Just remember their name for next time.

I agree with everything you just said.
If you have 4 melee characters and cannot take down the Marot, then it might be better to just drop and try your luck in another group.
