On Scar's thread about background music she mentioned one of her favorites as "In the Hall of the Mountain King". This is one of those songs EVERYONE knows but most people don't realize its name. I knew this but, for the life of me, I couldn't think of the tune.

It was one of those things where it's right at the tip of your tongue but you just can't think of it and it eats at you. Finally I googled it and ended up watching a video of a chamber orchestra performing the song on YouTube. I thought, "Ohhhhhh yeah." and felt satisfied.

But our story doesn't end there!

While I was googling and checking YouTube, I kept seeing a cover of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by some metal band named Apocalyptica. I had never heard of them and figured they were some obscure, no-talent, death metal band who somehow incorporated the classical song into one of theirs. While I was on YouTube, I saw a picture of one of the Apocalyptica videos featuring one of the band members (looked like your average metalhead) playing a cello! Had to check it out...

OMG I can't believe how cool this band is! Anyone who has not heard of this band HAS to check out some of their stuff. I'll provide a couple links below. I think this is going to become one of my all-time favorites and I owe it all to lostinjapan. Thanks! :D

You're welcome...not that it's any big deal though I have oh...about 6000 CDs ranging from country to blues to classical to baroque to mainstream to metal to pop to rap to punk to funk to....well, you get the idea.

Now if I just had a bigger external hard drive I could fit all of them on it for gaming play lists.

<pops in some Billie Holiday and Savatage for a change of pace>

*sigh*

These guys remind me of things I thought buried in the fog of the 80's.

The four of us: Myself, My bud, My Tenor sax, His Upright, no sheet music...

Playing for hours. No joke. Like bottom lip so dark red it's purple, buzzing and numb from the vibration of the reed. Like top lip dry as a bone. Like no spit left in the mouth. Like ears ringing from the subsonics of the bass. Like stoned as a bat from his second hand smoke. Like ears ringing from the wail and growl...

Like... Thanks.
