I was going to post a "OK, so what does it take to qualify for Spellsinger thread?", but this one looks like it has the potential to answer that question.

My primary concern is the Feats.

The "Or" structure in both the Compendium and the Enhancements screen is horribly (to me) set up.

The compendium states:

Bard Energy of Music II AND
Bard Concentration IIEmpower Spell OR
Heighten Spell OR
Maximize Spell OR
(Enchantment) OR
(Enchantment) OR
Magical Training

The ingame screen also gave me green "credit" for Mental Toughness, though that is not at all clear to me what that covers.

My Bard currently is Character Level 4 / Bard Level 4 and has Mental Toughness and Weapon Finesse.

What do I need to do before Bard Level 6 in order to select Spell Singer? (I am willing to multiclass one level into Fighter and swap the Weapon Finesse out of my character feats and into a Fighter feat if necessary, but I think I would prefer keeping my Bard levels maxed.)

The Compendium list is not only horribly formatted, it's incomplete. You need:

Bard level 6, Bard Music of Energy 2, Bard Skill: Concentration 2, Bard Song Magic 2, Bard Lyric of Song 1, Any one of the following: Magical Training, Mental Toughness, Spell Focus: Enchantment, Greater Spell Focus: Enchantment, Empower Spell, Heighten Spell, Maximize Spell

All bards get magical training for free at lvl 1.

Bards do not get magical training. It'd be a really weak prereq if it were. :)

Sorcerers, Wizards, and Clerics receive Magical Training at level 1.

Edit:
Don't forget the AP Spent too. (16)

Taking a level of fighter will delay your entry into spellsinger. Don't do it if it's not part of your concept.

You need to get the first Lyric of Song as well. That's the only one I didn't see you list. ;)

One thing that was tripping me up and I figured it out, you have to take the Bard Skill Enhancement: Concentration 1 and 2

Can one get Greater Spell Focus:Enchantment, without first getting Spell Focus: Enchantment?

Can one get Greater Spell Focus:Enchantment, without first getting Spell Focus: Enchantment?Yes, they are independent feats.

Must be a coding thing or somesuch reason then, since the d20 SRD clearly specifies that spell focus:x is a prerequisite for greater spell focus:x. Not that it matters since they both do basically the same thing. Just seems counterintuitive and silly to be able to get greater spell focus:x before getting spell focus:x.

Actually its a really weak way to encourage multiclassing with a bard imo.

I see it more of a way, that if you already multiclassed, you'll qualigy without need a feat. Although, you'd probably have those feats anyway.

Otherwise it would be one more thing to have to futz with in the limited Feat Respec mechanism. I really hate 3 way feat swapping for pre-req'd feats.

Hmmmmm, I will have to check my Bard but he's a 11/1 Bard/Ftr w/ Spellsinger Enhancement & I don't recal having to add in any magical training I think we got it when we got access to spells, I will have to check.

You must have a metamagic feat, then.

This is why bards got tricked into splashing wiz/sor to qualify for Spellsinger, which has now locked them out of the spellcaster-awesome bard capstone :(

I vote that the capstone is too powerful and needs to be toned down. It creates too much of a gap between the pure and multi. When the generalist gets a higher spell pen then the specialist(wiz/sorc/cleric?), things are off.

Should be more like:

Bard Musical Prodigy
Prereq: Level 20 Bard
Cost: 2 AP
Benefit: You gain two additional uses of Bardic Music. Your beneficial songs last 20% longer.

Bard Spellcaster Prodigy
Prereq: Level 20 Bard
Cost: 2 AP
You gain +2 Charisma, as well as +2 to Spell Penetration checks and the DC's of your Enchantment spells.

Bard Warrior Prodigy
Prereq: Level 20 Bard
Cost: 2 AP
You gain +2 Strength and +2 Constitution. Your Inspire Courage grants +1 attack and damage.

Tweak as needed.

In terms of game balance, eh, the bard's spells are pretty weak. No FTS, no Finger, no Enervate. That's most of what you care about for SR.

In terms of D&D fidelity... DDO wizards can use hitpoint-damage spells on mobs with SR. In D&D, SR blocks hp damage too. But bards don't have effective damage spells as a fallback, so maybe it balances them up a little...

Bards have never been known to be overpowered. They are still limited to level 6 spells. I think the capstone is on par.
