What are skills?
Heh, it depends. If you multi class and can swing UMD that's great. If you can get a good balance (also cross class) then that's nice. Some tank builds really like intimidate.
Personaly for a stock fighter I take ranks in jump because I like jumping on things to get to enemies and avoid obstacles etc.
But basicaly, skills arn't important for most fighters.

I tend to be on the opposite side of thinking, I like having skills on my characters. Is it worth bumping your INT up to 16 or 18 on a fighter for them? Uhhh, no way. But if you're done bumping your STR and CON to the places you want them, look to drop another couple of points into INT.
For fighters, Jump and Balance are musts (easy enough for those drow or 8 INT humans). If you're a CE build, you've got more skill points to throw around anyway, so things like Intimidate, Tumble, and even Spot/Listen are nice.
My fighter/paladin hybrid only has an 8 INT and while it hasn't hurt her to have only 1 skill point per level, I do miss being able to max out a couple of skills at each level. For her, I've thrown points into Jump and Balance primarily, along with a rank or two in Tumble. Since she's not maxed out in any 1 skill, I've taken the Armored Agility enhancements to lower her ACP for her physical skills.

With my new WF fighter I'm maxing Intimidate, Repair, and Balance (cross-class). With my old, 8 Int WF fighter, I maxed out Jump for a while, then switched to Balance at about level 10 :P
