OK,
So waiting patiently today for the service update after the merge, I also upgraded memory to 4 gig to see if that would help my computer run the game on my end. I was zooming along after all the servers came back online, started a new toon, was halfway through a quest...then this message comes up and closes DDO. At first I thought "OK, they just finished maintenance, it's a one-time thing, no big." Then it happened again less than 20 minutes after I logged back on. From 3pm Monday till 5:41am Tuesday it's happened a total of 26 times. My RECORD amount of time online before it does this was an hour and a half. And before you even point the finger at my machine, DDO is the ONLY internet based program that does this. So in the immortal words of my role model from Family Guy..."What the deuce???????????"

I've been getting dndclient.exe errors 3-5 times a day since the merge.
There was only two incidents in the past 1.5 years since I've had a dndclient.exe error.
And, coincidentally I also have 4 gigs of RAM in 64-bit Vista.

I have hung at loading screens a few times since merge, but never had client crash, just had to manually Alt-F4. 4 Gig RAM and windows XP64 here.

It is a good idea to periodically blow away DDO and reinstall completely. Between the massive patches and the way M$ handles files, data gets juggled around pretty good.

It's likely vista, DDO doesn't get along well with it.
Although really, it's more the other way around, but the game certainly isn't helping.
Have you tried making a tech report for it?

I get the ddo.exe client crash 1-2 times per week - although the other day I was running the reaver and the game crashed twice after I pulled the lever while flying. (That was annoying)
I used to get the crash once every several weeks but now the pace has pciked up...so your not the only one is this boat.

May want to check the memory.

The memory is fine. However, now not only am I getting crashes, which I used to NEVER get, but now I'm also getting held up on EXTREMELY long load screens. If this is the outcome of a server merge, UN-MERGE NOW!

try de-fragging your HD, sometimes you get errors because your HD's so messed up that it cand find the files quick enough.

Computer was defragged yesterday BEFORE I logged on to play after the downtime. Running Windows XP...not Vista. And if this error persists me and in-game tech support are gonna go a few rounds!

Not that the memory chips may be bad but the game itself may have an issue with memory managment in certain scenarios. Try scaling back to 2 gigs and see if it makes a diff.
Ive had some really strange issues with memory and AMD processors. My current board refuses to run more than 1.5 gigs, even though its listed for 4gb. After further research I found a large issue with AMD and memory issues. Its documented at the AMD site. Certainly sours me on AMD and wont ever buy another, but Im a ATI Fanboi- its killin me.

XP Isnt even Compatable with 4 Gigs of Ram.......
And have you actually run Memtest86 for morew than 1 loop? (like 20-50 loops)

I've been getting this problem as of recently too, I have even tried the "repair" feature for the game, but to no avail, it still happens periodically with no rhyme or reason. I can't detect any pattern of events or anything that's close to being the same when it happens.
Sometimes it will crash, two or three times with in 5 minutes (Really annoying) then be fine for the next 4 or 5 hours. Some days it doesn't crash, other days it does. Some times it's once then everything is fine, other times it crashed multiple times in a short time period.
My Memory is fine, and every other thing on my PC works fine. I've had the PC looked at by a friend who built it and builds them for a living. The problem is not with the PC.
As I said repair didn't work, any other thoughts?

Wait, wait, wait.
So I'm not the only one who started getting random DDO client crashes lately?
Has been a real problem as of late.

You'll get the assistance you need if you post here (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=80).
I run Vista Ultimate 64 with 2 MB RAM and have encountered no difficulties with DDO.

Well, I'm using XP Pro and have been having severe difficulties with DDO and client crashes.
From the posts it seems that XP users are the ones that are experiencing problems.

Well, I'm using XP Pro and have been having severe difficulties with DDO and client crashes.
From the posts it seems that XP users are the ones that are experiencing problems.I've been experiencing the problem on my laptop, running XP. The only solution that has worked with reasonable results for me was a total system reboot.
Last night, I was logged in for 5 minutes, then crashed. After that, every character I logged onto either crashed before logon or very shortly afterwards. I rebooted the laptop, the problem went away for the rest of the night.
Doesn't make a lot of sense, since I had just powered up the computer, it wasn't like it had been running that entire time.

I have experienced this with both DDO and LOTR after upgrading RAM to 2.5 gig and video card to 512 mb. I run windows xp home. My solution, and this has happened a few times, is to restore my computer to an earlier date where both games worked and it clears out any errors that have come along through updates, etc. At this time both games are working fine, and if either one crashes I will just restore and everything will work again. That's the solution for a non tech person who cannot handle computer stuff. Hope this helps someone!

No because all Tech Support is going to do is repeat the same asinine **** that's listed in this thread.
Reboot your computer, reformat your hard drive, defrag, reduce your RAM, re-install game, wipe your OS, get a new video card.
Let's go down the list, shall we?
1. Rebooted - check
2. Reformat hard drive - check (cant think of a computer it should run smoother on than this one, reformatted on August 7th)
3. Defrag - check (but seriously, defrag? I've got dual sata-II's in RAID0... average throughput is 120 MB/sec, burst is 230 MB/sec) read/writes are never better. Nonetheless, defragged on the raid partition.
4. Reduce RAM - check went from 4 gb to 2 gb (matched pair of Corsair XMS DDR2 6400 running in NORMAL, not overclocked mode)
5. Wipe OS - check 08/07/07
6. New Vid Card - check 8800GTS, latest drivers installed with driver cleaner, then nvidia 162.18
People aren't suddenly getting dndclient.exe crashes for no reason. It's a very calculated problem that is now being duplicated elsewhere. It's not isolated.
The only 3 times I have ever gotten that message myself was right after new mods were released. Now luckily I haven't gotten it after the server merge, yet. But in each instance the problem was resolved after they performed another patch, usually a couple days after the initial update.
Each time I also noticed that as the game ran, it continually ate up more and more system memory thus leading me to believe it was a mem leak in the game.
I'm not saying this is the case now but just something to think of before people go tearing apart their systems when it may not be their system at all.
These are just my experiences with a dndclient crash.

I'd love to be able to play WITHOUT lagging so much that I can't even take 2 steps before the game crashes with this message! Get your **** together or get ready to lose not only my membership, but the memberships of all my friends in the Atlanta area! We all tried to run raids today...but the half of us that aren't lagging, are crashing every two minutes! By now this should be child's play for you people...instead all I'm seeing are more, and MORE, AND MORE problems. If this is the future of the game, I'd rather find other more satisfying solo hobbies!

I've crashed in the Gianthold 5 times already today upon entering.
Sick of this already. I'm done for the day, I'm going to play something else. Bye DDO.

My problem sounds like what Tekn0 is describing, my client crashes about half the time when porting into gianthold. It will, on occaison, crash when porting to other instances but far more common with gianthold. The last thing I see is the screen freezing up as soon as I see my character in the new instance. I then get a window popping up thats says dndclient has stopped responding or something like that. I had this problem before when mod 4 1st went live but has came back since the merge and is getting very annoying restarting my client over and over.
I also am running Vista (premium 32 bit) and have 2 gigs of ram, Geforce 8800 GTS, Intel core duo (cant remeber exactly what cpu cuz im at work)

This has also just recently started with me too. I just actually get booted out of windows. I have always used WinXP and never had any probs until the last update. Now I can crash around 2-3 times a night. This really sucks and I am sure my comp is fine, but something in the new update was not comaptible with my current drivers and or computer.
This is not a freak occurance, it had everything to do with the latest or 1 of the last 2 updates.
Please look advise if you know of the actual cause of this Turbine!

I'm dealing with crashes, too.
I just did a clean install of DDO, have new memory, hard drive, etc. It's probably because I'm running Vista and there are all kinds of potential issues.
Before mod 5, I found that by changing textures from very high to high took care of it. Now, it is happening again with all of the graphics engine updating that was done. Turning down textures does not help. I'm running a high end system.
If you are crashing, try the following:
+ Defrag/error check your hard drive
+ Update all system drivers such as your GPU. It's good to check with Intel and AMD as well, once in a while there are CPU issues that can affect gaming.
+ Make sure that anti-virus programs are not on when updating or playing DDO. Usually, it's a smart idea to try running it without your firewall or anti-virus if you're having glitches.
+ If all else fails, try a clean install of DDO. I did this, it didn't help...but if you've had the game for a long time, data can get messy when patch upon patch is downloaded and applied.
+ Make sure that you have all system critical Operating System updates
+ Google is your friend. Do searches on the error or issue that you're experiencing. Sometimes there are hardware or software issues out there that other people are experiencing. You may even find a solution this way.
+ When there is a microsoft error report, hit "yes" to submit. Turbine and Microsoft use this data to fix our headaches. In addition to posting here in this forum, if you have a genuine technical issue, submit a report via the bug/tech report area of the DDO forums.
DDO is still relatively new and things will get more refined and foolproof as time goes on. I know some of the people have crashing on XP as well, so it is unlikely that many of the crashes are solely Vista's fault.
If I find a fix for my crashes, I'll share it.

P.S. I'm running the exact same gpu and operating system
I am 100 % positive it's a conflict software issue and not the result of any defective equipment. I've researched this a lot and there's something that is making DDO mad and causing it to crash. Haha.
If I find a fix, I'll definitely let you know!
Vista is going to be come more and more common and these issues are going to have to be addressed sooner rather than later.
